Weapon Effects and Theorycrafting

Wow, I'm surprised. Making sense of these weapon damage enchants is a real pain. Which enchant are you using specifically?

Major Striking (Could have been Superior as well, but they do the same thing +4 in or out of BGs).

Not wanting to sound silly, but I didn’t think 4 piece Desolation gear was available at 20?
How r u guys getting the 4th piece at 20?
Because Wowhead is completely fucking wrong about 90% of WoW post-squish. Use the Adventure Guide and check the Dungeons ON the Character you're looking for gear, it's accurate. None of those Sets require Heroic, only high(er) Character Level Dungeons in a few cases.

Thanks for that.....
I’m dark though......
I just re-levelled engineering after dropping it for leg chant....
Not doing it a 3rd time.... I may go for the Desolation set... maybe one day in the near future I will have a moment of madness and drop engineering again

The Legs can drop off of Talon King in Skettis, even tho it says they cant.

On a little sidestep from +dmg weapon enchants, anyone applied scopes lately? When I first put it on my artifact all the damage tooltips went up, but when i logged back in later they all went back to the values before I had applied a scope.

Is that common knowledge? Kinda weird, i tried searching it but found nada...

edit- also, https://www.wowhead.com/item=21766/opal-necklace-of-impact?bonus=6878 literally did nothing. No change whatsoever on any tooltip. Warrior and hunter.

major is +5 in bgs btw jade was wrong on that. |Its only the weapon enchants/sharpening stones that do anything necks and rings with + weapon damage are useless.

Until Wowhead pulls it head out of it's own ass, you can't trust anything it says post Pre-Patch. Tool Tips in Game are even still screwed. It'll have to come down to empirical Testing. To that end, hit up a Dummy and parse 5 minute auto attacks (because you can screw up Rotations from Parse to Parse). And do that at least 3x with each item/set, preferably 10x each.

I'm planning on doing some testing on major, just need to bump up my consortium rep. Based on results from the thread about druids, I have a suspicion that it's actually +7.

5 minutes? here I am just doing 2 minute tests :S
Consortium rep is really easy to get to honoured just turn in warbeads from the gore sin nagrand while farming the 1-2k adamantium ore needed for talasites. Might as well get kurnaei exalted while your at it as well.

To clarify, sniper scope was the one that the effect vanished. Tooltip stayed on the artifact but did not affect ability tooltip.

Put on a deadly scope over top of the sniper and all the dmg tooltips increased again and so far have remained increased.

I'll probably put them on some heirlooms and see what happens the next time, gotta farm some mats tho. Be a bit.

Yeah I got exalted with the Mag'har and got my talbuks yesterday. Didn't think I needed anything from consortium, but I'll do it for science lol

Who plays feral druid anyways xD -mediocre class/spec that should not be twinked

6-7 (or 7-8, i forget) full clears of mana tombs gets you 1 point from honored with consortium. That's the max from that.

Then do a bead turn-in to honored, i guess. I killed a mob in heroic for the last point, if youre not doing it on your twink.

I'm interested in what u r seeing here. Can I just confirm that the artifact is higher than ilvl 20? I notice on the enchant spreadsheet it doesn't work below ilvl 21. Refer snip below.

Fortunately I accidentally recorded the whole thing, sometimes I fatfinger my video card record feature and dont know it... probably like 60+ gigs this time LOL. So anyway, yeah, ilvl 32 artifact (+7 BoE and +5 quest reward relics) and the damage on the tooltips went up like it worked fine. 20-30 minutes later at most I logged back onto the toon and the added damage to the ability tooltips was gone but the artifact weapon still showed +2 scope on it.

edit- i actually have the entire situation recorded lol. about 20 minutes after I put the scope on I logged back onto her and the +damage was missing. All three tooltip versions, before, after, and after after:

[doublepost=1609571309,1609570088][/doublepost]OKAY, last one I promise. So the deadly scope is still showing on the ability tooltips, and it did increase the damage less than the sniper scope did for the time that sniper seemed to be actually working - which it how it should be, deadly<sniper.

even tho they both show +2 scope damage on the artifact itself on mouseover, sniper was better than deadly.

deadly scope (still working):

sniper scope (seems bugged):

and thanks @DeLindsay for teaching me the spoiler option, it really cleans things up!

What do we even believe in the game? The character sheet or the buff icon? They seldom match either...

https://www.wowhead.com/item=108902/armored-elekk-tusk?bonus=6691 tooltip says it gives me 86 mastery, and the char sheet shows 86... but the buff it gives shows 53.

Can the character sheet be wrong? I've been assuming not....

Here's the data I gathered.

https://www.wowhead.com/spell=27967/major-striking is +7 weapon damage. I also tested https://www.wowhead.com/spell=13937/greater-impact, which had identical results on 2H weapons. As I expected, daggers get a bigger boost than normal one hand weapons because of their faster attack speed, both on ability damage and auto attacks.

BUT... Here's the interesting bit: the oddball 3.6 speed one hand weapons seem to calculate ability damage as if their speed were 2.6. So on abilities, they do have a clear advantage over normal weapons because they have higher base damage. They also benefit the same as normal one hand weapons from the enchant in terms of ability damage. Auto attacks are a different story, there they behave as you would expect of a weapon with a 3.6 attack speed, including less benefit from the enchants.

The idea of using anything other than EF on my enh kills me anyways, good info!
