World Drop Farming Compendium (ilvl 28 BoEs)

INTRO:
Hey guys, I've gotten to a point in gearing where my remaining upgrades are random world drops. Namely ilvl 28 uncommons, and legion epics for chaos crystal. After searching through this forum, I found a few threads and some comments discussing the best places to farm. Since they were all spread out, (some useful comments on unrelated threads) I thought it would be nice if it was all in one place.

So in this Thread, I have tried to assemble all the farming spots that i've found, but also, I'd like to know your go-to farm(s). If you'd like to submit a farm, make clear in your reply:

  • What you are farming for. (ilvl 28 boes, crafting recipes, destiny, etc.)
  • Where you are farming (zone at the very least, preferably coordiantes and sub-zone)
  • What mobs you are killing (Wowhead link ideally, but just proper name or a good where^ is fine)
  • How successful the farm has been and/or why its a good place to farm plus any tips.
Disclaimer: These sorts of grinds are pretty obscene, often requiring thousands of mob kills over the course of days of in-game time, even with good farming spots. On top of that, these upgrades are only slightly better than easier to obtain alternatives. Vets can "just" buy them from the AH, don't feel like you have to do this just to compete.

*Edit as of Oct 11 2021*
I have spent very little time here on the forums recently, but I still intend to update this post. So, if you post a farming spot and want it included in the list, please post it as a normal reply and send me a PM and I'll add it as soon as I can.

An alternate Highmountain farming spot for ilvl 28 greens - Mightstone Flankers and Mightstone Slingers at 54, 63. Nice little spot just outside of Thunder Totem with a repair vendor close by.

Aslo, if you are looking for Legion Invasion farming for the +7 Fire Relic, the WQ in the northeast of Azuna (I think it's the Thaz'gul quest?) is an excellent spot.

Back again with another update - earlier today it was brought to the attention of XPoff Discord (credit to Destur) that TBC chests have a LOT of classic blues on their loot table. I regularly realm-hop and check AHs for 20 loot I've long suspected there was a technique to obtain i28 classic armor pieces (as there are so many, and hoped for weapons source). Sadly, it looks like the weapons drop as 20/i27 and are thus still out of reach - which would be far more valuable as i28 are currently still considered GF.

For the armor it looks like this is a useable source.

Most of the items are currently useless. The major exception to this is Feathermoon Headdress; offering 8 Intellect, 11 Stamina and uniquely 9 Spell Power.

To obtain req 20/i28 armor you must loot the chests on a level 22 char.

Download Handynotes: Old World Treasures to overlay your Outland maps with chest positions.

Good luck and Happy Hunting!
[doublepost=1631564365,1631564173][/doublepost]View attachment 19985 For reference. Please note I have not yet looted one from a chest.

Update on my current loot findings. These are listed below. I will continue to add as I farm. The fastest method by far would be to group with an Outlaw Rogue under level 50 (both use a non-TBC chromie time) and taxi the 22 around using the mini-map for treasure tracking. Sadly I don't currently have a third active account to do this.

Couple of people asked, small recording of my route for freehold for ilvl 25 weapons

FARMS (spoiler city BABY):

ilvl 28 BoE's / Epics:
imps in the furbolg camp near Lorlathil in Val'Sharah
kobold camp near Skyhorn in Highmountain
humanoid camp near Greywatch in Stormheim

also, any legion invasion:
https://wow.gameinfo.io/legion-invasions
Other Val'sharah farming spot for ilvl 28 boes and shadow and life relics. The farm west of Bradensbrook and south of Black Rook Hold. There's more distance to cover to tag mobs (birds and night elves), but at least they respawn at a decent rate.

I've tried other Val'Sharah spots like the murloc island, harpies, moonkins, and naga but their respawn rates aren't good and/or distance to cover stinks. Mentioning the Bradensbrook farm as on my server the boomkin bot army has taken over the imp spot making it nearly impossible to tag mobs.

Pulling up my farming notes. 5 weeks farming with one L50 and one L24. Last 2 weeks with one L50 and two 24s:
Total relic drops: 406
Lockboxes: 307

Around 8-10 hours of imp farming got 7 shadow and 10 life relics. And +3 more life relics from the 307 lockboxes. So yeah, just keep grinding mobs like there's no tomorrow.

Nah bro. Get a brewmaster monk (at least level 30) for ox statue, then sit at the felskorn camp in Stormheim!
The 24 toon will also just be vibing there as the monk slays all the mobs, it's a great hyperspawn. I usually sit there with a level 20 to grind purple boes/level 14 gear, works pretty well and in 20k kills over ~10?hrs ive gotten 4 purple boe and HUNDREDS of greens, at least 3 socket+speed!!! Hate to give away my lil spot that isn't actually secret cuz you sometimes see others there but its really amazing and you'll get a SHIT TON more than running fucking instances and you don't even need to do anything other than refresh ox statue (or pull if you aren't monk, then it'll be harder lol) and whip ass with spinny kick.

If you're wondering: It's the little village around 65.2 58.2 .
If you're doing it with a high level monk, I'll let you figure out where to place the ox statue. bit hard to explain where the best spot is lol

ALso there's more hyperspawns in legion like the drogbar fight or the goats in highmountain, but this is the one I use and the drogbar/goats didn't yield much for me sooo im not going into specifics on them
on my level 25 DK I've been farming the Un-instanced version of Eye of Azshara, right under Dalaran on the map, there are about 16 packs of mobs called "seasalt droplets" with 8 mobs per pack, you will never run out of mobs
The +7 bind on equip relics can be farmed (alongside the level 19 ilvl 28 greens). The Legion zones on a level 24 will get the drops.

I've been farming the murlocs in Azuna, felskorn in Stormheim, and grizzleweald imps in Val'shara the past week on a level 50 and 24.
  • Storm and frost from murlocs.
  • Holy and blood from felskorn.
  • Shadow and life from imps.
Relic drop numbers for the level 24 toon:
  • +7 frost x3
  • +7 storm x6
  • +7 holy x6
  • +7 blood x5
  • +7 shadow x1 (I stopped after getting the shadow relic--the reason why the drop number isn't higher. I prefer farming felskorn and murloc spawns for the ilvl 28 greens)
Still working on a high level rogue for lockpicking around 25 lockboxes for more relic chances. Particularly the fire relic from a lockbox, as I believe another poster said the mobs in Suramar don't drop it. I tried for a bit in Suramar, but no loot sparklies appeared for my level 24 toon.

Still working on some Highmountain stuff to try to get a +7 iron relic. Tried for a little bit but the mucksnout aggressor mobs aren't in clumps. So next trying to get off pinerock hunter mobs.
Other Azsuna farming spot for ilvl 28 boes and storm and frost relics. Shackle's Den flight point, then south to Temple of a Thousand Lights.

Haven't been back there in a couple weeks, so don't have the mob names on hand. It's the elementals and banshees graphics. Edit: Seeing Ancient Chillwitch in the video. :)

Good farm spot as hyper spawns.
  • To get to Nazmir as alliance go to the Echo Isles in the south of Durotar and take the boat to Zuldazar.
  • To get to Drustvar as Horde, get to stormwind harbour. You can swim there from westfall. Die to the guards then get on the boat to Boralus as a ghost. Once there, die again from fatigue (running out of the map). Then rez at the spirit healer.
In drustvar go on current time/WM off. Then go to the pig farm at fallhaven (search fallhaven pig on wowhead to see where) they drop green BoEs like candy, have a chance at teebus sword and purple BoE shit like that too. Great gold farm also, when I go there usually theres 2 druids chilling and pulling all of the instantly respawning pigs, i can just sit in there and aoe tag all of them and get free loot
What to Farm: Battle for Azeroth BoEs and Zone Mounts.
Where: All BfA zones except for Zuldazar and Tiragarde Sound.
New Information(?): Mobs that are related to Azerite World Quests downscale their level lower than the actual zone level.
Idea: The Azerite WQs places usually are more densely packed with mobs to ensure faster objective completing, which might make easier for groups to trigger hyperspawn. This could benefit level 25s and 20s, with a place to also grind the respective zone mounts, even with level 20s woun't get ilvl28 boes.

• Some places to farm:

Drustvar near Barrowknoll Cemetery (A small underground cave with witches and hexxed soldiers. It is a common place for bots).

Vol'dun, at the zone's entrance from Nazmir; and near to a mountain's base in the zone's left side (both are sethrak camps) (Image pending).
Stormsong Valley, at the mountains in the far bottom right side.

I have only formatted one of his suggested spots because the mobs in Vol'dun and Stormsong will not drop gear usable for level 20's.
This is where I have been farming. I chose it because, according to wowhead, the subjugators have the highest droprate of Etched Bone Ring. All of them also have unusally high droprate of greens in general, and they respawn fast enough I could do laps around the pyramid they're on and never run out.

With 749, 989, and 704, kills respectively, I have gotten 51 items. That gives approximately .02 items per kill, I have kept 2 with sockets. I don't remember if there were any more.
On nazmir i'm farming two spots:
The first one - 45.76 1-2mob per fight, so no chance to die. A little delay (10-20sec) between circles if i'm alone there. It's near the fly point which is usefull sometimes. Thats "old school" hyperspawn spot, but i never seen farmers there after prepatch. Chill farm, just to kill some time between dungeons. BEWARE: they have shadow school dmg!!! If u are leaving The Blood Furnace (TBC dungeon) there, then u'll be with 2min debuff which increase all shadow dmg to u by 1k (these debuff will be from the trash before the last boss in The Blood Furnace), so u can be oneshoted due this debuff.
This is the "second spot" he mentions.
Both places about the blood trolls. Doesn't matter which one bcs they all have similar loot. Even the small ones on the second spot (with "empty" health bar aka minions).
Can't write their names atm, but u can always check them on wowhead, and i recommend u to do this before starting the farm: i got over 10k pig kills on drustvar before notice (thanks, wowhead) that they can't drop any cloth armour which i wanted... Yeah, i was to lazy to check them before starting the farm... But as i said before - that was a good lesson for me.
___

I found that u can visit drustvar as a horde without dying near a ship in the Stormwind: u can "stick" to the ship and change location as usualy being in the water lol.
[doublepost=1606138606,1606136868][/doublepost]I'm sorry for the link, but with my english i can't explain it for ppl, so i did some screenshots about the spots in nazmir, that i hope will be usefull... Also, sorry for really bad quality.

This is where i'm farming some items as a 20lvl vet. All mobs about the blood trolls.
https://imgur.com/a/hK4ikMA
___
When u'll be on the spots, check the mobs name on wowhead to see which items they can drop, before farm them!
[doublepost=1606138994][/doublepost]BTW in the "dark" spot u don't need to follow all path from screenshots bcs they will be respawn faster than u can kill them, so u can be easily trapped by ta new mobs. Find a better place for yourself somewhere in there. It's a really big place.
This is my preferred spot for farming cloth at the same time as BoE's. In 1267 kills split roughly evenly, I got 16 items, or .013 items per kill. I also got 700 Tidespray Linen, and 35 Deep Sea Satin.
Notes:
  • To get ilvl 28 items (including +7 Relics) from level 20 zones (legion) you need a level 24 or 25 character.
  • Any farm for greens is also suitable for epics which is why they are grouped.
  • Make sure the mobs you are going to grind have the slot/armor type you're after. Some don't drop rings, or cloth etc.
  • You can have any Chromie time enabled while farming.
  • For vets, legion farming is much faster because they don't drop weapons. In my experience weapons are ~50% of the items you get from BFA farming.

So @Brilliant and I have been farming classic zones together, and trying different things out. Here is what we have found out:-

  • we farmed 10k~ Silithus hyperspawn and received 0 epic drops.
  • we farmed 50k~ Burning Steppes hyperspawn and received 0 epic drops.
  • we consulted other farmers and believe that 400k+ Silithus kills have been achieved with 0 epic drops. Some reported believing classic epics are now GF. This is not true: read on!
  • we farmed Blasted Lands rares with 2x High level & 2x Level 17 chars (THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT).
The Flawless Spheres can be traded/mailed to a Level 17 to be handed in and opened. In total we farmed/bought 350 Spheres.

Every single chest you open is guaranteed to give you at LEAST 1x Blue items. Here is the route we used to farm the rares:

https://imgur.com/Cvu64eH

In total we looted 5 epics from 350 boxes. We think the loot rules are as follows:-
  • Armor scales to level
  • Weapons scale to 18 and CANNOT scale to 20. Looting on anything higher than a 17 will result in 20+ epic weapons.
These are the epics we received at a rate of 70 chests:1 epic:

(several images of items)

We believe that the ONLY epics you can get from this method are from the following list. This is judging from wowhead comments, our own farm and word of mouth:

(item list)

Bare in mind that this farming method is used by level 60s to get rare blue transmogs. So some realms are heavily farmed.

The next thing @Brilliant and I are working on is another Classic zone hyper spawn that has given us a lot of high-end blues, including this helm, but no epic yet. We looted this about 4 days ago on a level 17. It is not a GFed drop. Hopefully we will be able to share more information in the coming weeks on our findings. Ultimately we are hoping to find a Skullflame/Destiny/Hand of Edward the Odd location. The ONLY definitive proof of looted epics we have seen since Shadowlands are from the above list.
You asked where and I'll tell you that and how. (because I feel this question gets asked a lot and not sure it gets covered here so I'll just add my tidbit so it can be referenced)

Pandarian blues are farmed in Valley of the Four Winds ((28.34, 30.33) if you use TomTom). You'll be aiming to kill Stout Staghorns with a level 22.

Ideal setup would be to have one person in the image I've posted, killing the 3 "packs" circled in black in "setup.JPG". While the second person is at the 2 circled in red in the same image.
setup.JPG
You'll want to kill these 5 packs as quickly as humanely possible, constantly running between them, for roughly 5-15 minutes.

When you kill these packs after a certain amount of time the circle that is filled in black on "setup.JPG" won't be needed anymore and the 4 packs will hyper respawn.

Once the 4 packs are continuously hyper respawning at some point the 2 black unfilled circled at the top of the image will be the only 2 packs required for the farm! You'll then have one person on one pack while the other sits the other pack, sit mindlessly for hours spamming whirlwhind.
  • To be noted: The packs hyper respawning seems to be determined by speed of clears and only seems to trigger with 2 people minimal randomly. As a solo player you're going to have to run from spawn to spawn continuously.
  • I highly recommend making sure this farm is attempted on a random timeline, if you're in normal timeline you'll have a lot of levelers ruining the spawns!

Rough estimates of kills per hour based on this method + how many farmers:

1 person: 900-1.2k (can't trigger hyperspawn)
2 people: 2-2.4k
3 people: 2.5-2.7k
4 people: 2.8-3k

You can expect roughly 1 blue per 1-2k kills.

Noteworthy loot: Gerp's Perfect Arrow, Daelo's Final Words, Core of Decency, Davidian's All-Seeing Eyes, Endwyn's Toothy Visage, Hood of Alchemical Vapors, Zom's Misty Hood

P.S, I'd recommend getting an addon like Hyperspawn (makes the 2 mins before loot expires semi afkable), level up engineering for Loot-A-Rang and frag belt (they help an insane amount), and I'd HIGHLY recommend being a fury warrior, whirlwind + crusader is insane. Oh and bind whirlwind to scroll wheel, save your fingers!!

If more info is needed let me know in here and I'll edit this post! Also I can't figure out proper formatting.

Also worth noting if your after level 20 epics. don't go on a level 24-25(For Legion)
BFA: AFAIK, They do not scale down.

Also to get Classic World epics i'm pretty sure you need to be below level 20 aswell. My hunch is level 17 or 18. I got a Warden Staff on my 20 that one was req level 23. That was from a container however. So might be different for actual drops. Non-Dungeon specific ones, Zone specific and mob specific.

Also BoE Blues drop at level so like Essence Focuser from TBC. Especially weapons they drop at level 20 for level 20s. Seem like Armor pieces drop to level 18. Haven't done testing on a 22-23 char yet to see if there's level 20 versions of them.

Also it seems that world Drop epics in WoD and MoP might be scaling to level. Seen trinkets and weapons that's at level 20. (This however i haven't confirmed myself)
For WoD I would probably recommend farming Iron Docks with a high level friend
(Have yet to get a drop myself so do this with precautions that it might not be worth.)

Weapons with sockets from BFA is also farmable on a level 21-22 i think someone told me. Ofcourse you'll get a bunch of stupid gearpieces that's unusable for the most part. Someone correct me on this one if i'm wrong.(However at a max iLevel of 25 it seems. So Weapons, shields, offhands.)

I would agree with @Brilliant , I have gotten several epics across my classic runs, and they are always level 23, so a lower level character might be what is needed there.

Also, thanks for sharing @Gobolord :), nice work!

Also if you link an epic from WoWHead to a level 20 char it scales to 23. Wheras if you link it on a level 17-18 it goes to level 18. This ofc might not mean anything at all. But atleast it might be a lil' bit of info.

Quick tip for those farming greens in Nazmir. Set your Hearthstone to the inkeeper at Fort Victory so you have a teleport to Zandalar and not going by the boat every time. There is even a teleport to Boralus from Dockmaster here so you won't loose your HS at Boralus (if you have it set there).

ALSO
I was farming Nazmir on my 20 F2P here and for me the best seems to be the blood trolls next to Zul'jan Ruins.

How many epic items are we talking about here btw? Just so that we can be pretty sure about the fact. and were there armor pieces aswell or just weapons ?

I was curious about item levels of Blue / Epic drops from Classic Zones so took a high level and a 25 to my favorite farming spot in a Vanilla zone. It left more questions than answers ..

The only Blue items I looted were on the level 50 - so no results.

The 25 got an Epic Staff drop, which caught me out completely as it had a level requirement of 26 ! So I'm more confused than ever .... I'll link the item after work.

Edit Confused Item Level and Required Level - Should have been Level 26 Req - Item level 31

Hey!
One of the best farms i have found as a level 20, for ilvl 28 greens, is the Falhaven pigs in Drustvar. They respawn VERY fast, and have a fairly high drop chance for those ilvl28 green items! The location is Just up the hill from where the ferry drops you off at Falhaven, and the mobs in question are called "Falhaven Pig" https://www.wowhead.com/npc=124170/fallhaven-pig

Just wanted to confirm before starting the grind... so essentially pick one of these places and grind grind grind, at which point I will 'eventually' get all ilvl 28 BoE pieces, as well as the ones I want (Harmonious for example)?

I feel like the golden level for weapons is level 17 or 18. For classic zones. Especially the high level zones. As we know for sure they used to drop there and on the loot table. armor pieces im not sure. Also afaik theres not really any thats probably worth from classic zones.

Just randomly scan through wowhead's list, it seems that all the Drustvar mobs drop like the Fallhaven pigs - plate/mail/leather lvl28 green armors but no cloth. Can i really farm cloth armors in Drustvar? I prefer Drustvar since the mobs seem to drop more gold than Nazmir.

Yep. Many vets roll a lvl 24/25 character or multiple, just to grind faster. It's also worth gearing that character specifically to grind since small speed increases work out to big time saves over the course of 10k kills.
