PTR Our own Shadowlands Alpha Q&A

can you look at the professions (unlearned) tab and see if there are any strong SL items that you can equipt on characters below 50? Or if it's possible to even learn those professions under 50?

I trained Cataclysm Tailoring in my lvl 10 (it costed a bunch of gold), but the profession items themselves did not scaled down and were at the natural level*** of the expansion. So, even if I could farm the materials for it by choosing to level through Cataclysm with Chromie, I couldn't use any of my profession gear right now. Same with other items in the unlearn tab.

I guess it's all too early to really put time into it.

Most important question I have - can lvl 10's do the farming in Pandaria........
If so, I will spend years in Pandaria.....
Love it :D

This dude has it! That would be very cool, but exploitable for economic purposes (imagine a full army of low alts gathering motes).

(...) Also BFA dungeons are listed as starting at 10 (ad we can do a bunch of them!) but every other expacs dungeons and starting zones are listed as like, level 24. Now this might be because of how the alpha is set up. But it seems super weird right now.

Yeah, I am also fearing that. Since BfA is the leveling path for newcomers, I feel the other expansions dungeons and features might be unlocked at later levels and be an afterthought.

Updated the questions you guys made and provided some comentary to some.

Natural Level of the Expansion *** - When I say this, I refer to the level to which continents will be set after you finish leveling. As it stands, most of a expansion features (raids, reputation and profession items) do not scale and require the said natural level.

they aren’t gonna give away a third of the game for free, man.

I know you’re bummed about losing some spells but playing at low level has always meant dealing with incomplete tool kits, weird spell balance, and odd gear. It’s part of the fun.

look at the bright side. Healers in general seem to be eating shit, which is better for bracket balance. Mages lose missiles which is amazing and the bracket as a whole is losing EOTS.

Things don’t look all bad.

How much they'll give you for free is always an interesting proposition in all these games.
20 cap or even a 15 cap would be my preference.

I enjoy the fast paced triage healing in EoTS, so I'd be bummed to see that go.

It's hard to make conclusions based on Alpha data because it seems some spells aren't even in the spell book right now, like Polymorph for Mages. At lvl10 it seems like tanks aren't getting their taunt until 13, which would make dungeon runs a pain, and healers aren't getting their rezes until later too. That just seems silly.

I still maintain that glyphs are going to be a good indicator of the Starter cap and currently they're restricted to 11+

Hey @Eleannor thanks so much for doing this!
I have a few questions relating to "chromie time" as it's called. To my understanding it's a system that automatically scales your character to pretty much any content prior to Shadowlands. Some of these may be a little too much effort to test -- just to be clear I'm not expecting you to answer all or any of these but would of course appreciate if you did.
  • Can you remain in- or activate chromie time after level 50?
  • Is Chromie time automatically disabled once you reach 50? 51? Or not at all?
  • Does chromie time affect instanced pve content at all? (you can ignore the rest of the questions if the answer is no)
  • Are old raid instances affacted by Chromie time? example: can a level 40 enter Molten Core and be scaled to an appropriate level?
  • In chromie time, does dungeon and raid loot scale to your level? example: can a level 40 get level 40 loot from Deadmines and/or Molten Core?
  • If you enter content normally below your level while in chromie time, does your character get scaled down to said content, or does the content get scaled up to meet your character? If the former is the case, do you lose abilities and talents as a result of being scaled down (similar to party sync)?

Sockets on random proc suck lol. But you can farm some slots from bfa dungeons at least likely

can these quest/dungeon items roll speed/leech/avoidance still?

The axe I got was from a world treasure. I believe it could've roll tertiaries and maybe proc to epic (since that's the normal BfA behavior). Anyway, still testing other quest rewards and treasures.

Very sad : / That leaves me with 2 options before pre-patch. Stable my current pet or keep him out and see what happens either way.
I still have the 'Flaming Boar' on my 10 Hunter, and 100% of the Rares available through LvL 10. All Stabled so lets hope they just stay in there waiting for me to relevel up to 10 again.

Well, there might be hope for 1s. Depends on old starting zones and how they implement the new quests to match exiles reach. But stables should work.

Buddy.

its level 10. We're capped at ten.

Yeah, I figured as much since last week. My hunch was based on Glyphs being locked at 11+.

Traditionally, Blizz hasn't wanted Starter accounts to have glyphs, which is why they're currently set at 25+. So when it was revealed last week that glyphs were being unlocked at 11, I started to be convinced that starter accounts would be capped at 10 the moment I saw the glyph requirements.

But it seems there are still people in this thread who disagree with 10 being the intended starter cap.
