F2P Addon

Re: Yasueh's Macros and Addons for F2P

I just recently rolled on Blackwing Lair and was able to see other F2Ps talk in the channel prior to Lv3

Once I hit lv3 I couldn't see anyone else's chat anymore, despite being able to still talk in the channel

The other players report seeing me permanently offline / not seeing me on their friend list at all (we have less than 10 players on BWL so...)

Any others have this issues before ? Please help :/

****EDIT : nevermind problem solved, they deleted me and readded me manually, then /reload and it fixed it :)

Re: Yasueh's Macros and Addons for F2P

You can chat as a level 24 or under level 3, but to do so you need to have a level 20 on the account, and have that level 20 log in to 'claim' your other character as one of it's alts.

I want to have the addon allow alts to be claimed between accounts too, so that P2P and F2P accounts can be linked, but I'd rather not allow just any 24 to join the channel. I think they should have a 20 too, just so they can see exactly how OP their 24 is from the F2P player's perspective. I don't mind 24s, but I think they should earn their credibility by having a 20 and playing at the same level as the majority in the bracket, even if it's just briefly, and on the one character.

Regarding not being able to see chat, I think Blizzard have fucked something up with their servers, because recently I've not been getting my friends list filled promptly on login, or even after 3 or 4 /reloads. When I login or /reload the addon adds friends from the channel, and a load of error messages show up to say they're already in the friends list (the one that's stored on the server), but when I open the friends list it's empty, as if the server isn't sending the friends list data over. The problem is the addon needs that data to work.

Just wanted to ask how safe it is to use this addon? I want to use it on my main Battle.net-Account and don't want to get banned.

There are literally hundreds, perhaps even thousands of people, f2p and p2p included, that use the addon. None of them have gotten banned because of it yet and I doubt anyone will.

Re: Yasueh's Macros and Addons for F2P

Just tried the addon. This is pure awesomeness. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Uhrm, how does this work?

I think your addon is far to public allready to do things like this really and you just simply cant force people to roll a 20 and look. Perhaps if you kept it just for TI and f2p where you have to get an account to get the addon i could understand this in its early stages but now its on a big site like curse and makes it automaticly block people. Its like you allready claim all 24s beeing evil, spammers or something w/e by default... It just has to change and let the people decide for them selves what they want to see in chat or not.

I just wish you made a command to block/unblock those levels instead of doing programmer things with the lua file wich is just hard for most people.. its all i am asking and the right thing to do.

Re: Yasueh's Macros and Addons for F2P

1.2.8
* If you're channel owner, the addon no longer passes to the next most viable owner, every time someone new logs in (left a line of code uncommented).
How does this work?

Re: Yasueh's Macros and Addons for F2P

There's a function in the addon that passes ownership when it's called, such as when you cause a log off event. Around 1.2.7 I added another call to that function for the 'player joined channel' event, intending to add more checks to the code that prioritises who gets to be the new owner, in case the person who just joined was a better choice than yourself.

Without a check for 'Am I the best possible candidate?', it just passes owner regardless.

In 1.2.8 I commented out the line in the 'player joined channel' event to stop it doing that, because the problem with owner being passed so frequently, is that someone waiting to get ownership in order to abuse it, doesn't have to wait so long for it to get passed to them.

Re: Yasueh's Macros and Addons for F2P

I tried with verbose = true. This is what I get. Hope it can be fixed with 1.3.

I'll try to add a flag to the character database, so that when one of a person's characters gets banned, it no longer allows alts on that account to bypass the block on under level 3s (of course the flag will have to be removed once the character starts talking again, in case someone abused owner and banned the whole channel).

Re: Yasueh's Macros and Addons for F2P

Sorry if this has already been asked, but how do you ban someone from the f2p chat?

Re: Yasueh's Macros and Addons for F2P

I don't know too much about your limitations with the API or your future plans working on the addon, but one positive addition IMO would be something along the lines of a guild message of the day. Some sort of general message people could get when logging in/joining the channel about responsible and respectful use of chat, that trolling/flaming is unacceptable, etc. If its possible, I think it would help set guidelines for warnings/bans being handed out to players causing issues.

I guess one possibility would be putting it into the addon loading message, but I find that those tend to get buried when you're running multiple addons.

Re: Yasueh's Macros and Addons for F2P

Hey guys, decided to roll a f2p character the other day on aggremar horde and cant seem to get the f2paddon working. Manually installed it a dozen of times off curse.com but no luck so far. I can read messages in the channel if I /join f2ptwink, just cant type. Any help would be appreciated:).

I don't know if this will help but quite a few people who had a problem at first simply wrote

Code:
/leave f2ptwink

and then

Code:
/join f2ptwink

Try it out.

Re: Yasueh's Macros and Addons for F2P

It's a good job I pre-purchased GW2. If I was getting it on the 28th, then nothing would be getting done to keep F2PAddon working until I'd played some GW2. Because I'll be playing it from the 25th though, you might get lucky and have a working addon by the end of the day on the 28th, provided it doesn't need a lot changing, and Bliz don't mess up, and I can get into WoW to test it.

That said there's still a possibility it won't be fixable, as Bliz still might want to kill off f2p twinking. I've got a few things that are ready for the next release though (*), and a few more that I might get completed by then (-):

1.2.9
* The addon now has a few options available via. [Escape] > Interface > Addons > F2PAddon.
* Slightly modified database structure, to allow more per realm+faction settings, for people who play on several realms.
* The database now stores the version of the addon that created it, allowing the addon to either wipe or modify the database when updated, depending on how big a difference there is between versions.
* Outgoing messages are no longer blocked by level filters, and the option to disable blocking incoming messages from low levels or 24s is in the config menu.
* Tidied up the code a little.
- Save the chat window that is displaying the channel, and save it to the DB, so that when the channel is changed, it still uses the same window. Make this setting available in the config menu.
- Update localisation to include new additions, and switch to simpler L.["phrase"] format which should be easier to maintain in the code.
- Complete f2pinfo code, allowing info on players that is stored in the database to be shown as a tooltip, when you mouseover their name in the chat.
- Add a command to f2pi to query whether or not a p2p is online who has their invite addon enabled and active.
