A small Guide and Info about wandering some strange Isle somewhere in the World of Warcraft. (By a Wandering Isle Stayer)



Before starting, I want to point out towards the one and only Doubleagent* who was the first among us that reached his goal to become max level possible on our beloved Isle. A great achievement without leveling gear and having done a lot work with gathering before knowing about pet battles makes it an icon in the whole World of Warcraft! (and even more so for us other Wandering Isle Stayers). Thanks Doubleagent!

Now lets get started on this small guide about wandering this strange little isle of ours but first I'd like to tell why I do it myself which is real simple: it is one unique thing in the world of warcraft and blizzard gave us the chance to level a character without any faction all the way up to max level. Some might feel different about doing this and calling us nuts but I see it is an opportunity to do something different with this game and creating an unique character just like having some sort of grandfathered gear on a tink (I suppose some of you can relate to that feeling) and obviously because the leveling process isn't done over a fortnight.

How to get started

  1. Select a Realm
    • The best Realm for US would be Mannoroth; for EU participants the prefereble realm would be Magtheridon or any of the connecting realms. The choice is yours to make but these are the places which do already have some existing wandering isle stayers.
  2. Chose the class you want to play. (Note: Some classes have speed increases which might come in handy with noding).
  3. Making sure you have done your pet battles "Battle Pet Tamers: Kalimdor" and "Battle Pet Tamers: Eastern Kingdoms" to unlock the 5 daily quests:
  4. Optional: Leveling to the Huo quest The passion of Shen-zin Su to gain him as a follower which gives a run speed increase on parts of the isle. (This way you are skipping parts of the initial pandaren quests but gain speed for running nodes).
  5. WARNING! for all the dummies out there; Do not complete the final pandaren quest A New Fate and chose a faction.

Experience gaining
  • Complete all quests in the area till you receive the quest where you will have to chose a faction. Do not complete that one or it will be over wandering our lovely isle!
  • Hack and slash your way through the mobs untill they do not give experience anymore.
  • Learn the gathering professions Mining and Herbing and use this as an alternative and optional way to gather experience.
  • Do the daily quests on a character not on the wandering isle and complete them through your quest log on your wandering isle stayer.

Professions
  • This is also something extra you could do for aquiering gear for the slots you are not able to equip with heirlooms. Another handy thing when you own multyple accounts is making an alt for other crafting professions without switching the gathering professions on your main wandering isle stayer.

Getting to The Wood of Staves

After you have completed the tornado quest there is no normal way to get to The Wood of Staves. The way for reaching it is simply to kill yourself near the Wood of Staves and spawn at the graveyard up de mountain. Hunters are able to disengage jump all the way up and shown in one of the videos in the spoiler as well as Doubleagent demonstrating one of the ways to get up there by killing himself (We had to go there for material farming for crafting Glyphs).

I dont really know and not able to check it out either cause of not having an active subscription this month but I did a fair share of noding thats for sure. Not as much as Doubleagent but I did node till level 60 or so for days. Doing that at my current level @83 id get just 14 xp per node and seeing it will take a very long time to get a level I am not doing it anymore. Like 2 maby 3 bar in a whole day (~8-10hrs) feels fruitless compared to 1 daily that gives 4/5 of a bar :) (Ill post it next week).

Awesome find SPQR, Ill add it into the OP if you dont mind. Saves hunters from dying to get up there :)

Did this mini guide out of the top of my head and forgot about this. It needs definitely to be in it. Thanks!

For the people interested, there was a guy on the Legion forums reporting a bug with Zen teleporting him to different places, I added that Zen also wasn't working on the wandering isle and played dumb... (I leveld a panda monk to 20) so who knows we might be able to escape :)
 
This is Swimsphinx by the way lvl 43 on the island before quitting for most of WoD (now level 58) and now coming back for legion. But I decided to mess around on my shaman again and tried using a Scroll of Recall just to see if Legion broke anything and it works!

Scroll of Recalls can atleast now (possible that this worked other expansions) to the Eastern Kingdoms (and only the eastern kingdoms after about 20 or so tests so far). You still sometimes get the part where it doesnt teleport you anywhere and you just get the lost debuff, I theorize though this happens when it attempts to teleport you to Kalimdor or any of the other lost points not located on the Eastern Kingdom.

You can set your hearth to any town Alliance/Horde for the time you are logged in to work. However, anytime you log out you will be transported back to the Wandering Isle and your hearthstone will be reset to Xi's Training ground.

You can learn all of the riding skills and use atleast ground mounts on the isle (I've gotten alot of remarks about having a mount on the the isle).

Quests available to us seem to be only Neutral quests Argent Dawn, Cenarion Circle / any quest available to both factions.

Also there appears to be no way to get to Kalimdor or to any other leveling zone outside of Eastern Kingoms. Boats / Zepplins bug out and will not transport you, no portal spells (including the Hellfire Pennisula portal) work for us. So it appears we are eternally stuck on Eastern Kingdoms (just a bigger Island). Mages (and Monks to go to pandaria) can possibly expand this further by using teleport spells once they can learn them after the initial escape.

So this means that in the end this will make leveling up to lvl 60 much faster as grinding mobs was netting me a level almost every 30 minutes in the level 50 range. But as of further testing / discoveries we are still locked to the Eastern Kingdom we cannot get to other special areas to continue fast leveling. But will still be vastly improved with quests + Gathering as herbs net you 2.2k exp (with rested) in swamp of sorrows at level 58.

Below I linked an imgur album with some of my neutral adventures outside the isle! Happy exploring hopefully we only find more ways to escape and get to other continents (also lets keep this on the DL fam I wanna be able to explore)

Granted, mine is only a level 20 F2P and mostly for RP purposes.

Hey there :)
I got a mage to 20, orgrimmar/stormwind portal spell hasn't been auto learned, so hopefully you can talk to portal trainers. Any clue what npcs can be interacted with when you leave the isle at 41 ? Otherwise I'll get back to leveling my hunter...

I know for sure you can interact with Guild vendors, guild creators, profession trainers and Auction House NPCs. You can't transmogrify (damn shame) and void storage, from what I've tested.

Oh that's very helpful info, thanks! I'll keep leveling my mage then and will be back here once I get off the isle to let you know if I can teleport. Too bad you can't transmog, inb4 you can't reforge either.
What about languages, are you stuck with [Pandaren] ? Can non neutral pandaren understand you? Since it's a cross faction language now.
