Do you FLEE when you know you are gonna die in bg ?

Merlin

Grandfathered
i been noticing that players tend to flee when they know they are going to be killed .. almost 99.99% of the time they FLEE .. why ? dont you stand and fight till the end anymore ? warriors and pallys use to stand their ground till the end, lately i find them fleeing too .. warriors using that leaping stunt lolol .. you flee if you have a chance to get away .. in my case, i always catch up with them and kill them .. i say 80 or 90% of the time, so why bother fleeing ? the only classes that dont flee or cant flee are healers and warlock (mist monks are exception, mist flee 50% of the time) .. the chances of a twink fleeing is far more greater than a non-twink, a non-twink will fight till the very end lolol

to flee here means you were in a fight till you left very little health .. i dont mean when you see a fresh group of enemies coming your way and you turn and run, if i see a group of 6, 7 enemies heading towards me, i wouldnt engage them in a fight, so that is not fleeing .. unless, if there is someone in that group i wanted to kill, i will still go straight into them for that kill

IMO it comes down to a few things
Downtime at GY being the main one, noone likes standing there for up to 30 secs waiting for a respawn (Thats dmg/heals/fcin time!)
I tend to flee (main healer) when i know
A- Either my team mates are nearby or
B- I Need to regain some mana / HP
C- My Escape CDs are up (In my case, devine steed, bubble and swift pot)

I do tend to kamikaze alot too tho but thats normally when theirs someone im committed to killing or if i can put up a decent fight til reinforcements arrive
Then there could be the other reason i know some would go for The XPOff stats who want fewest deaths possible to try and get on the leaderboards

I flee when I know that I can get away and be more useful somewhere else instead of waiting for gy timer. The only times I fight to death when I know it's lost is if I can delay enough for other members to do something about it. Like just hitting ppl trying to cap and hide etc.

Even with res sickness, Jwl the brave refuses to flee.

Well I play rogue, so duh I flee. Certain classes are better left alive to reset for the fight then to die and wait to respawn. But I can see your point, paladins and warriors are very unlikely to get anywhere and it’s funny to see the oom ret trying to run.

In bg you play for time. If you can waste time of 3 players trying to execute you for a minute or two, it is a good thing.
I remember one Arathi Basin fight where I was being chased by two DKs and pally (good dmg but not that smart) as an Arcane Mage. That chase was an eternity (grip, ice block, blink, slow, invis, displace..) and we ran together around whole fkin map. In the end they got killed by my team. Next time they met me, they were like "Thats not worth it" and ignored me.

I imagine some people have an aversion to seeing a death on their scoreboard.

And really, there's typically not much to be gained by eating a rez timer. We aren't manning barricades on Rue Soufflot here, heroic sacrifice in the face of overwhelming odds isn't often a thing on a CTF or King of the Hill map.

I mean, there's something to be said for baiting a couple of people into chasing you across the map or in buying your FC a few moments with a sacrifice CC but more often than not more is gained by staying alive

Of course

i always flee and pussy out never try to 1v3 but jump kids instead

typically attempt(but still fail hehe xd after all these years) to play like a retarded rogue/stealth druid

best way to play in randoms

and then feel good about yourself

Some kids(and i mean alot) literally only come out of stealth once their long CDs recharge (idk how they have the patience to literally sit 5-15 minutes in stealth nonstop I have to give them props for that) or when the opponent is down to like 1/3 hp.

I usually keep tabs on all enemy stealth in bgs and when i see one that hasnt died yet or hasnt came out of stealth( in like 5-6 mins still 0-0 on board or 1-0 or something) I will try to to find it and burst it before it can /afk or something

Hell yeah, I flee!
As a healer, I have had half of the other team’s DPS tunnel visioning me and chasing me all over the map while my team were happily capping away!!! LMAO!!
They just didn’t get all I was doing was buying our FC time just as Daxinko stated earlier. Some people just don’t get it.
Even if they do end up killing me, I would have led them as far away as possible from our FC as I can.

/cheers

I don’t get that either.
Wait 10 minutes for a game. To just wait in stealth 10-15 minutes for a ‘chance’ to gank someone. If not, then just /afk out at the first sign of a loss to preserve the win/loss ratio. Lol...

well the whole 15 minutes thing applies to vanilla more or less (prep CD yes i know its 10 mins but still)

but yeah on retail its typically 5-7 minutes(which is still like a third or a half of the bg) that they wait

Never!
And I seriously hate people who leave base in AB when they see incoming that they cannot beat. Just delay them for fuck’s sake..

I dont even know why we made a thread for fleeing when there are so many players who /AFK on a daily basis. can we make a thread to shame them instead? I have a few I can mention right now lol

How are you gonna flee if you know you're gonna die. If you know you're gonna die, you're gonna die. But there's nothing wrong with retreating if the situation calls for it. Rather spend 5 seconds recovering, than a full ress timer at the GY that can also put you out of position for a long time. Sometimes sacrifices are necessary too. Trading a life for EFC trinket to then get the kill on next push isn't a bad decision, or defending a base till backup arrives.

i am quite the opposite .. once i lock in on an enemy player .. i hunt him for the whole few days .. usually when they see me in the game, they stay close with their team, they dont dare to venture far from his team mates .. but nevertheless i usually go straight into their group for that player alone, for some apparent reasons the players i hunt knows i am after them, just them, and usually they will not appear after a few bgs

that is exactly true .. to kill me alone, a number of their players need to be there, it buys time for my team fc

i am not sure if blizz reduce the stealth ability .. rogues are such easy prey these days .. when they have little health left they stealth and after a few seconds they appear again .. and when they appear they are within such short distance away .. i think blizz killed rogues for good with this stunt .. i have a 70-80% kill rate on a fleeing rogue who goes stealth .. normally if i have no target in the bg, i look at scoreboard and see which enemy player has not died once yet, and i will make him a target

its like some players are really afraid of adding "death" tolls to their score .. players with this mentality are weak cos they have "fear", usually they cant fight thats why they need to minimise their number of deaths, a true fighter takes on 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 without batting an eye, its not stupidity, it is heroism lololol

yes .. its like when a warrior is down to their last 5 or 10% health when they realise the whole time they are not even hurting you 2% of your health, they leap .. they know they are going to die, because his health keeps going down and yours remain at max

As others mentioned, fleeing can work as a great tactical move if it means kiting opponents far enough away from an objective that your team can capitalize on it.

Last week, I was on the other side of that coin in Arathi Basin. During a big fight in which we had the upper hand, an arcane mage came after me (resto shaman) but didn't get the support needed to take me down. Realizing that my team didn't need my help anymore and that the mage was churning out a lot of damage, I chased the mage all the way to another flag, where I finally killed them. To the mage, that must have felt personal. To me, I sent a high damage opponent to the graveyard at a time when my squad didn't need me, so I needed to move to another part of the map anyway.

Know when to flee, when to chase, and when to spin the flag so that your team can rez and either turn the tide or hold the point as annoyingly long as possible.

Do it!
There used to be a good addon that made an announcement when someone ragequit a BG. It kept tally too!
