EU+US Best 20 PvE & PvP tanking class?

though I wasn't sure how to track
auto attack for 30 - 60 seconds with every enchant on.
do 3-5 sessions.
look up what you get in recount or basic bitch combat log window.

for PvE, i wold say holly paladin.

It has 2 main speels doing great dmg:
http://www.wowhead.com/spell=20473/holy-shock and http://www.wowhead.com/spell=20271/judgment
They both have a high cooldown (9sec and 12sec)
But its high dmg and its good enough when you are exploring the world, when you only need to kill a npc once every 10-20 seconds.
Holy palading also has a AoE spell, wich does low dmg, but its still dmg that is usefull when spamming selfheals.

It also has a 2e AoE depending on wich talent you take, wich does a bit more dmg and also does healing, cooldown is 1min
Another tallent http://www.wowhead.com/spell=223306 is good when you need healing when moving, its almost the same healing amount as Flash of Light, but this one has higher cooldown and cast instant.

Ok not seeing any built in defensive stance.

Did 2 duels, one on pally and one on warrior. Had a hunter aimed shot 18 times on each and I took averages.
266.22 on warrior and 276.39 on pally

That sounds like standard deviation, were there any differences in armor, block etc. among the war and pally?

Yep I agree. 43% vs 42% armor. Stood with my back turned so couldn't block dodge or parry. Warrior has 6% less chance to get critically hit from unwavering sentinel. Hunters were different but closely geared. If there was built in defensive stance warrior should have been in the 220s so quite a ways off. Plus I found out there is a defensive stance talent available for arms at 60 in the talent tree so I doubt it's built in.

While reading up I did find out warriors gain rage from damage taken now which is nice. I was worried tanking a skull mob and missing was going to prevent shield block but shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks @Hashbrowns for running those tests. That blows though about Defensive Stance. I didn't realise but they also in a recent patch took away the Sword and Board refresh of Shield Slam. I hadn't done much on the Prot till recently and noticed the free Shield Slam wasn't proc'ing whereas I'm sure at the start of Legion it was. I think there is some higher lvl talent which replaced this ability but I'm not sure when that took place!

Thanks for explaining also how to find the hidden Dodge & Parry values. 3% Dodge, 9.7% Parry and 3% Block on my Prot Warrior.

Thanks also @SPQR - I'll try checking out all the functions of Recount and see if I can work out the procs for absorbs via that. I only really use it for heals and dps so never really looked into it any further than that.

@Ferib Holy Paly is a good tank option. I guess it's probably one of the better tanking / healer classes. For healers I prefer a Mistweaver though, granted it doesn't have AOE abilities but straight up 1 v 1 dps it's whoop a$$ and has good survivability. I could probably even smash @Crystalpall BFD speedrun on the Misty but I guess we are really comparing pure Tanking specs.

Maybe we need a Healing and DPS speedrun challenge also down the track :p

Edit : Mistweaver's do have some minor AOE, being their first tier talent. I run with Zen Pulse and it's actually quite a decent AOE ability.

Edit : Also found Parry for Prot Warrior increases by about 6% on a Crusader Proc.

Prot Warrior BFD speed run update :-

Guardian of the Deep - fairly easy as there are about 3 or 4 small shale crawlers that can be killed for the self heal and he also spawns some crawlers that can also be killed. Not required for speed run but wanted to test out my mettle!

Twighlight Lord Bathiel - ok, so this is a tough fight. The elemental's that he spawns don't allow the self heal ability, so best way I found was to keep a few of the other mobs alive as you attack the boss to get that self heal up a few times. The Warrior has good AOE which you try and keep for when those elemental's get close to the boss. Ok, ok, take it easy, so I used some drums on this fight.........

Aku'Mai - Actually probably one of the easier boss fights as he spawns some tentacles, take them out and use the self heal. You can see how much health I still had after the fight because of the self heals.

Ok, other bosses :-
Domina - Easy fight if you keep one or 2 of the other mobs up at the start of the fight. Not required for speed run. Though there is a 10% stat buff you can gain after the fight which is quite handy.
Ghamoo-Ra - Again, because of the nearby mobs it makes it an ok fight. You may need to get in the water and take out some fishy's if not enough heals from the 2 crazy mobs off to the right.
Thruk - ok, though I have taken him out, not so easy. I need to work out a way to take him down consistently before my speed run attempt.
Executioner Gore - I haven't been able to down this dude. Though it's easy to simply run past him and let him de-spawn but I guess that's cheating, so he's one dude I need to work out on the Prot Warrior.
Subjugator Kor'ul - I haven't tried this dude on the Prot Warrior. Can solo easy enough on the Mistweaver but only because I get HoTs up before that grab attack he has. Not sure how the Warrior would fare but I don't like my chances.

So I need a bit more work on Thruk, find a way to down the Executioner and see if I can do the Elemental guy without a drum and I'm ready to go for the speed run!

I just want to say thanks to those that have responded to this thread. It's actually been quite a fun challenge and I think through it all I've sort of fallen again for the Prot Warrior for my tanking spec. I was originally leaning towards a Prot Paly, but I think I'm gonna stick with the Warrior for now. Thanks all :)

colossus is the only semi legit enchant. gives around 200 shield rather often.

Just tested this out in BfA. The tool tip says 70 damage absorbed per shield. The buff at the top of the screen and the meters say otherwise: 19 damage absorbed. Basically, one mob hit. This enchant is now totally useless for PvE tanking :(
