I'm not sure why skill continues to be brought up; it has no place in this discussion.

We are discussing the marginal advantage that GF gear provides. But more importantly, whether it's justified to allow it, in order to satiate GF legacy players, instead of achieving equability for all.

I've lit this straw-man up enough for one day.

I have seen you posting a lot recently showing interest in the twink cup, my question to you is how many games of 19s have you played past 3 months? You got to get a feel for how the bracket works, at 19 like others have mentioned there is no piece of grandfathered gear that is necessary to ban.
People at 19 are different than 29, players in 19s gain respect by how they perform in the gulch more so than how they act in the community, my proposition to you is to play a good week in the bracket then readdress the issue. There is nothing game breaking with jutebraid vs magefist etc.
I appreciate your interest and concern in promoting this discussion as it would be something to consider for players that are unfamiliar with the bracket, in my mind there are more game changing components that heavily outweigh minimal Stat difference on gear.

Hunnybuns19 Thank you for the reply. My aim was to frame the GF gear debate with crystal clarity. I've exhausted my points, the jury is now in session.

Can you provide insight as to whether it is possible to inspect from within spectator mode?

I have not spectated in battlegrounds, just arenas for the f2p tournament a month back. From what I remember we were able to inspect players gear, I can't remember if it was faction dependent though. Would think this would translate over to bgs... Laurentiis or rusks may know more on this

jesus fkn christ i dont give a fuck if ur speedpotting it was a joke?????????????????

edit: quit conversation pm instead pls. bump for twinkcup :)

i know it wasnt geared at you nature was just saying there was more to it i didnt mean to come across as to direct it at you sorry for that

Hunnybuns19 , Donteventrii , Yes, you can inspect players and gear in spectator mode.

I just want to go on record as saying that I think a ban on GF gear is an extremely bad idea and will be incredibly hard to enforce even if it were implemented. There's plenty of things that do need to be addressed with policies (defining what constitutes a terrain exploit and making clear to everyone along with consequences / manner in which they can be caught (there are places on the map where you basically can't be attacked and other toons can't really get to you), as well as teams entering and leaving to switch their comp up (something that will drag this tournament out endlessly if allowed as everyone will do it until both teams are happy given the other team's comp which may never happen). Regarding the first point I think a simple discussion with Myrm and the teams once they're established can solve the terrain exploit issue. The other issue can also be resolved - my suggestion is that when both teams are "ready" they submit a list to a neutral arbitrator of what their spec list for the 10 are. If something happens requiring either team to leave and rejoin (likely to legitimately happen occasionally given it's 20 people), each team MUST continue to use the same 10 specs they originally submitted for that game...so no enter, leave and switch.

Separately I have no idea when signups will be but I hope that if they're soon (more importantly, if they close soon) they don't require a final roster until close to the tournament. Much can change including RL circumstance and waiting on rosters doesn't seem detrimental at all really as long as it isn't something crazy like a due date of day or week before tourney.

Neap just said you can inspect in spectator. I have a hard time believing a team would risk getting disqualified if GF gear was banned.
Gear can be changed at any point in the game and commentators can't really be expected to be constantly inspecting people to make sure they're adhering to the rules.

But would a team really risk a disqualification just to gain, say 5 stamina?

Let's just make sure that when discussing the practicality/impracticality of enforcing a gear ban (and I think it is impractical - not to mention the fake reports some people could do) that it isn't a given that even if it is 100% easy to enforce it should be banned. That's an entirely different issue and one in which I think the vast majority of opinions support not banning.

I for example don't have jutebraid gloves....a very common GF piece with a huge stat advantage over the next best gloves. But you won't ever see me advocate for people not using them. No excuses, just win.

The grandfathered gear ban debate summary:
For: Gear equitability for all.
Against: Marginal advantage for legacy twinks who've stuck with the bracket.
Enforcement: Random inspections, instant disqualification.

That was easy.

Can you guys just, idk, not? This is ridiculous, especially nowadays when the gf gear attained is BARELY useful and provides a marginal increase to stamina only really for dps sets. Even for stam sets Jutes aren't bis for anything, infact seal of sylvannas is probs the only good one, and for stam set. Maybe Inferno Robe has a place somewhere too but it's barely better than boa especially with how valuable most secondaries are for pretty much all classes. I'd cry more about brewmasters even being ALLOWED in the tourny. GF gear is the least of your worries. Get a grip.

If you're DEAD serious about GF gear, you could consider helm enchants. That's pretty much it really. Or OP leg chants that nobody has other than 1 guy from EU.

edit: with the same logic, we should also ban Shadowfang's, Gloomshroud Armor and any other expensive boe because they're too expensive for all players to afford/too rare to be obtained, just like GF gear should be banned because people were too young/naive to know or too young to play tinkes.

Skill>gear. The way it always has and will ever be. Gear has no effect on strategy and strategy is what wins a tournament, not 2 intellect..

Still unable to read, peabrain? Nobody is questioning skill vs gear. Please reread post #482 for a summary.

I make it a point not to read any of your posts. They slowly lower everyone's IQ's. Your ignorance and stupidity is prevalent; the very fact that you and shaket are even in this bracket forum is beyond me. You are upset that 29s are boring and the forum grows less and less interesting after we left that awful bracket. Hence why you made a 19... This bracket is alive and thriving and it will stay that way, but you on the other hand have nothing to do except pretend you are actually relevant in the 19 section of TI. Keep your subtle antics coming and your smart-ass comebacks. No one cares.
