XP Block turned off

No new info here, I just checked with a f2p account and the option to disable xp is removed. After hearing about this one of two possible things came to mind.



I remember reading a couple weeks ago here that people were claiming Blizz said starter accounts being in the xp off bracket was an unintended mistake. Maybe removing the option to turn off xp is the first step towards changing this and soon starter accounts will be in the normal xp bracket. If so I can see why it would piss people off, but for our "endgame" battlegrounds, things would be better overall in the long run.



The other was they did this just to be jerks and try to limit f2p accounts more in hopes of upping subs. If this turns out to be the case and f2p is still grouped with locked 24s in the future, it will actually make me less likely to spend more money on blizzard products in the future. I had planned to activate 5 accounts soon to try multiboxing content for leveling, and probably get at least a month sub for each using RAF to keep playing a bit, eventually ending with 2 or 3 accounts to goto 85 and do end game stuff. With them pulling moves like this, plus the blatant oking of selling paid items in-game for gold with the new pet, I'll just save my money. My current activated account expires in a few weeks, so I'll just stick with f2p until they either show some signs of wanting to improve things, or just quit once they decide to cut more stuff.

There have been a number of changes occurring affecting twinks in general, heirloom changes are on ptr and xp lock changes on trials.



As a side note it doesn't make ANY sense for trials to be leveled to 24...

IF a new cap is implemented it will most likely be 30, 40, etc.



If blizzard does put trials into the xp-on bgs... the quality of games for horde may improve slightly but the overall quality of games will be pathetic as even more noobs flood the bracket. And even more /emos join the bracket to kill leveling players.
 
will if starter accounts were unintended to be in XP off brackets, they still did not fix that problem...cause once you hit 20 you are in a XP off bracket.



this weekend in the 10-14 and 15-19 leveling AB BG bracket, there was alot of QQ by new players asking about gear that they saw on players, how are they getting one shot, etc etc. commenting how unfair the game was. i took three F2P's a paladin from 15 to 20 on sat/sun and then a priest from 15-18, a paladin from 10-13 yesterday and read alot of it. (nether have BOAs)



blizzard may have gotten some huge feedback from players with low-bees, new account owners maybe demanding money back, who knows? blizzard probably over re-acted, assumed it was F2P causing this grief this isn't possible since F2P's would not have the gold to use the bug exploit xp on/off



speaking of that, many famous 10's who have been QQ'd about on wowforums before, like one priest with like 55000 kills was back at it in WSG xp on bracket using the exploit
 
Blizzard "sees" the win ratio data of the brackets... most likely p2ps reported f2ps in their bracket and got the dev attention that way. The only other thing that may get their attention is the disproportionate win rates of alliance in this xp-off bracket, but I doubt they care about what goes on in xp-off brackets.



You are immediately removed from the bg queue if your status changes (i.e., gain a level, change xp status.) Is there a way around this?



To my knowledge ppl just queue with xp-on and grab the flag and farm as much as they want.
 
Would not surprise me in the least to hear that Bliz disabled this to get twinks out of xp-on bgs. They do give the impression of being that stupid, and having that much grasp of how their game actually works.



Alternatively:



Would not surprise me in the least to hear that Bliz disabled this to shit on twinks who were already getting shat upon, thanks to being stuck in the bottom of a bracket, with severe restrictions on their gearing/enchanting abilities. They do give the impression of being a bunch of c***s, who go out of their way to make it damned near impossible to get anything resembling fairer BG games.





Count me in as another F2Per who payed for a (separate) account because of F2P, that will most likely not ever be subbed because of this. Bliz are dumb for thinking this would boost sales/subs.

preeeeeeeetttyyy sure that this was intentional because they are planning on subsequently making level 20 f2ps play in the 20-24 xp-off bracket rather than the 20-24 xp on bracket. it's the hypothesis that makes the most sense by far. and this would be a REALLY good thing, so you guys need to calm down.



and i can't help but point out that you guys are overreacting to a comical extent considering none of us pay money for this. blizzard can do whatever the fuck they want to f2ps. they're letting us play for free. if they want, they can make hunters have a nuclear strike that kills all other players on the map. you guys need to calm down and be thankful that we even get to play for free at all.

I assume you have that in reverse? I was thinking it may be a possiblity myself.
 
Okay 99% sure it is a bug related to Instancing:

I decided to level and Lock at 12, Locked (still possible EU), then continued to do the Westfall Quests. Everything fine and dandy, till I did the Visions of the Past Quest which requires you to enter DM. Went in, got out, met the Brainwashed Noble, killed him..and was wacked by the XP-hammer for over 1k.



Sorry but this is too much of a coincedence to me, and really reeks of bug, especially because Locking your XP as F2P has 0% impact on how F2P 20's would act in 20-24 XP-ON, as the could still grind their tits off at 20.
 
Of course it's a bug. There is no way that this is working as intended right now. The question is, are they changing trial accounts, and will it be good or bad for F2P?

Level 20 F2P's already play in the 20-24 XP OFF bracket.
 
I wonder if the intention is to place f2p into the xp-on bracket but the xp gain was sloppily handled. This would be completely new programming since other content locked accounts (ie: vanilla+BC only) do not behave this way. Time will tell.



That being said, it's not unheard of for a portion of the code to get into the live patch before the rest of the solution is ready.

  3. Blizzard are incapable of admitting when they have screwed up, or appologising for it
  4. Blizzard have a long history of making a complete mess of implementing changes in a sensible order, or at the right time to actually support each other.

i agree with all of your points yasueh. but what point are you trying to make yourself? i still think that my hypothesis makes the most sense. of course, activision is incompetent as hell (please don't call them blizzard), but i still think this is what they are ultimately intending.



the fact that you happened to just be locking xp on several characters is no more than really, really bad luck. sorry man. but that doesn't really change that we're playing for free.

Also possible, as it's obviously the Instancing that is causing problems and, as said before, removing the XP-Lock wouldn't change a thing on the impact (if any) F2P twinks would have on Xp_On 20-24, balance-wise, as they'd still be able (to shamelessly quote myself) grind their tits off for gear without dinging.



And let just say that if I had a precious Locked P2P Twink bursting with GF gear I'd be careful about entering Instanced content till it's clear what is going on.

I believe you are thinking of a post on here where someone was discussing this with a GM, and he said something to the effect of it not being intended.
 
The words used were unintended consequence, meaning they didn't do it to mess with 20s, but that's a long way from planning to change it for 20s.
