Warlords of Draenor Changes for F2P

It seems strange that armor kits wouldn't give armor to anyone but tanks, I suspect that's a bug. It is of course only supposed to give AP from bonus armor to tanks, but to not give its actual armor value seems dumb. Well I'll send Bliz a note and see what they say.

You're confusing armor with bonus armor. Armor is the base value on chest, gloves, boots, legs, wrist, helm, shoulders and shield only. ANY other armor values are bonus armor (eg rings, weapons, enchants, armor kits, elixirs etc).

Blizzard has stated (sorry I don't have a quote for you) that bonus armor is only for tanks. Bonus armor does not even show up on non-tank character stats the same way that spirit does not show up for prot warriors.

Right, I get that. What I'm saying is that it seems like a dumb move on their part to make armor kits not even give armor value unless you're a tank,. I understand that bonus armor giving AP to tanks is a special feature for tanks, but it seems crappy that bonus armor doesn't give the armor value itself to anyone but tanks. I remember reading that AP from bonus armor was for tanks but I don't remember reading that armor value from bonus armor was meant to be just for tanks, and I think it could still be a bug or oversight unless it's been specifically said somewhere that bonus armor value itself (not AP from armor) is only for tanks.

P.S. For our sake, it's only a difference of a total of 3 armor, so it's not like it's a big deal, but it's the prinicple of the matter.

The thing is programmers don't read the language in tooltips like lawyers, and that's probably a good thing, lol. Many are probably borderline Asperger's (maybe a cruel statement, but quite possibly true), so in their mind any armor value that isn't on the armor is extra armor and extra armor is bonus armor. Doesn't make sense logically, but not eveyones mind works like that. My guess is cleaning up the language in tooltips—and the localization of that language to the myriad different languages they have to translate it to—is one of the last steps in the process and done by a separate group of people. But this is merely speculation. I guess what I'm saying is that when Blizzard says it will be ready when it's ready, they really mean that until it's released, they really aren't finished making changes yet.

It might be intentional. Maybe they figured tanks should be the only spec striving for extra armor, which makes sense. But if that's the case why award AP on top of that. Why not make it extra hp or something "tanky" Why give tank specs the illusion of dealing any meaningful damage, by building your gear the way it should have been in the first place. I do agree that this new patch Isn't near being finished, at least on the PTR. Just looking at what has been cut since WoD went into beta in the first place is interesting. I'm not even entirely sure AV was ever tuned as i didn't bother organizing another game since the last. I'm guessing 6.0 will ship, full of bugs, broken models with terrible clipping and all, and then be fixed (hopefully) pre WoD. Never mind that end game class balance, which is where the focus supposedly is, is a bad joke. Certain classes are critting over half players hp in the latest pvp season gear. It'd be really great if they'd actually open on lines of communication between the community and devs, and really go for full transparency. So we could try and understand just what the fuck is going on. Instead they just ignore feedback while pointing to garrisons, which nobody even asked for in the first place. /endrant

My guess is that that Garrisons aren't for you and I, they are there to attract the Facebook/casual gamer crowd. You know, the people that ruined the internet.

Garrisons are there to lure the Clash of Clans community. Supercell has 8.5 million daily players, and generates $25 million PER DAY. Activision is getting crushed by a tiny company in Helsinki with only 95 employees.

Blizz's ANNUAL gross revenue from the US/EU community is ~800M/year. Supercell makes that in just over a month.

Ewww. From the picture, it kind of looks like Warcraft (omg wouldn't that be an awesome addition as a mini-game), but I know that most certainly isn't the case. This problem is even bigger than I imagined, and it all dates back to Web 2.0. I'm going to need a bigger boat.

It's crazy, right?

Honestly, the faster that WoW goes full f2p with micro transactions, the better; at least as far as generating revenue is concerned.

Not that it wouldn't possibly drive the final nail in the coffin though...

Yep, true f2p can be a double-edged sword, I kind of like our broken, little freak of a game, as is.

Like 90% It's activision killing the flagship title. Did you see how destiny's launch was handled? Everybody realized they cut out 90% of the story only to resell it to them in dlc. I never thought a company could be worse than EA, and yet here we are.

IF they did it right, it could be a huge success. Rift was okay when they were sub-only. Trion is making tons more money since they went f2p. The community has grown, and the game is really good too. There are TONS of different build as well, so it's not the same cookie cutter crap Blizz has been force-feeding us since Cata dropped.

I have zero confidence in Activision successfully pulling it off, though. They have the anti-Midas touch: everything they touch turns to shit.

rift went shit when it changed to f2p, the game was great (especially the f2p twinking aspect, jesus it was 100x better than the wow f2p twinking was and could ever be)...rifts only quest now is to get as much money from the players before it shuts down

I haven't logged on to Rift in a long time. It was still good the last time I did though. It helped that I was GFed, since I was an original subscriber.

I'm pretty much over MMOs in general these days. Nothing will every capture the magic the way WoW did back in the day ever again. I keep looking, but it just isn't there any more.

FWIW, I haven't logged onto WoW in a long time either. Last time was the first Sunday of July. Won the fishing contest though, so that was nice.

Oculus rift man. The tech is almost there, we just need the game now.
