US Upcoming 59 tournament - asking for your feedback

Hi guys,

With the 59 bracket being on such a rise, myself and a few others have been wondering what a good format for tournament play might look like, and we'd like to get some community feedback. We've been doing all inclusive nightly wargames for a few months now, and we have plenty of people itching for something more competitive.

The potential formats we discussed are 10v10 battlegrounds, 6v6 battlegrounds, or 3v3 arenas.

10v10 seems much less likely to happen given that our typical nightly numbers are in the mid mid 20s to 30s, leaving a lot less potential for several competitive teams to compete. I don't think we realistically have enough players interested in competitive play at the moment to emulate something like the 19 twink cup.

3v3 arenas are very popular among a lot of players in the bracket currently, are a great way to showcase skill, and our bracket certainly has plenty of viable comps.

6v6 battlegrounds are somewhere in the middle - small enough that we could reasonably expect several very strong teams while still keeping the battleground format we've become familiar with.

So I'd like to hear your thoughts:

Would you sign up for a 59 tournament? If not, why?

Which of the above formats looks most appealing to you? Or is there another that you'd suggest?

There are of course rules that we have in mind and would go into more detail about on a tournament thread. That said, what sort of rules would you like to see enforced?

Is there anything you think is being overlooked, or anything you'd like to see addressed?

Any and all input will be considered and appreciated.

I reckon for 10 man bgs give a few months until we have enough.

6v6 is a possibility they actually are trying this format in high end pvp. 3v3 is typically arena style so im sure alot ppl will like it but also i don't think all the 59's would be interested in playing competitively in arenas..

I would renew my subscription for a 3v3 event.

The only way I would do 10v10s is if:
1) It is Warsong Gulch.
2) There is a prize pool large enough to act as an incentive to encourage players to show up & participate.
3) If Multiple players create & advertise teams, much like the way we do for twink cup.

I would even be willing to contribute to a prize pool heavily, assuming others would be interested in helping out.
When it comes to rules, they are pretty self-explanatory as far as gear restrictions, gameplay limitations & general behavior go.

[doublepost=1558921065,1558920623][/doublepost]Might I add, the earliest wargames in this bracket were 5v5 WSG.
These games can be extremely fast-paced (believe it or not) and are an absolute blast to play. I'd be down to run 6v6s. We'd be able to get several more teams to participate with lower numbers anyways. I really doubt others feel the way I do though. But like I said, 5v5s were an crazy fun.

I really enjoy 5v5s arenas. I think it needs to be played more. Sure, people have bad memories from cata and yeah it felt bad at endgame, but this isnt endgame, this is a different bracket, and in my opinion, 5s eliminates some of the issues that 3s has.

I think tournaments would be a great addition to regular wargames but they shouldn't replace them completely. Many people joined the community to play in a semi-competitive environment that includes everyone and that is flexible. Everyone is welcome and they join/leave whenever they want and we adjust the groups.

Tournaments could either replace regular wargames on some nights or happen before/after them. I think the former is the most realistic. It would be difficult to get people to show up before (too early) or stay after (too late) regular wargames. Those who aren't participating in the tournament won't play on those nights. I think that is reasonable since, if they insist on playing on those designated nights, they are likely competitive and would have made a team for the tournament.

Regarding the format, I personally like 3v3 because they are fast-paced and individual skill matters more than in larger teams. Unlike many team fights in BGs, a smart play by a single player can have a direct effect (kill a target, recover from a bad situation, etc.).

My experience with 6v6 is limited but the maps feel a bit empty with such few players. Usually there is just a team fight going on (like in 5v5 arena) with maybe one player on each team playing objectives. But sometimes the games can become quite dynamic. We could try out 6v6 more informally to see how people feel about it.

The regular daily wargames aren't going anywhere - like you said a fair number of players are content with whats going on now, and I don't want that to have to change. Tournaments wouldn't really even be a regular occurrence, but rather just when someone decides to step up to host one and give the players looking for some more competitive play a chance to go all out.

It's looking like 3v3 is the popular choice this time around, and I think Paul will be announcing all of the details before the end of the week.
