Very dependant on server/ah prices. Also what class, some classes can get away with mostly dungeon drops so you're only on the hook for enchants. Others take lots of boes. Then there's always the super rare boes if you want them, those will always cost a pretty penny.

So what class/spec/server are you thinking? I'd say a single wow token should cover everything, maybe I'm wrong

for basic gear u need 3-5 heirlooms, 2 classic profs 300/300, 2-10k gold for enchants and alot of time
for decent gear u need 50-100k depending on ur server and class
for BiS u need millions if not billions

i'd say a 29 that stomps bgs takes about maybe 100k or so depending on server economy and such
fuck, lvling enginnering on my realm only takes like 10k gold

all depends on server

for BiS u need millions if not billions
lol @ this

For reference, I geared and outfitted a druid and warrior on Aerie Peak for one token and I've got like 30k left. Doing the same on Bleeding Hollow took me 2 tokens and Ive got like 500 left

I could have done both for way cheaper if I had been patient with the AH and leveled a DK to grind herbalism/mining. But Im lazy.

You'll get a lot of different answer depending on the class/spec/bracket and what people define as "good enough".

For example, I would not include 300 engineering/alchemy as a requirement. It can provide the BiS head (and agility cloak) at 29, but you'll do just fine without them. If you want to do 10v10 wargames, you'll want to focus a lot more on gear to be on the same level. In most BGs, its going to be a very minor difference.

You can definitely make a "budget" twink with lots of heirlooms and dungeon drops (and eventually BG crate blues) at 29. There might be a few ultra-rare BoEs you can grab, but you can still pvp without them. I'm in process of gearing a 39 warrior, and basically everything is from dungeons or heirlooms. A green cloak is the only thing I had to buy (and even then, its a slight upgrade over the heirloom one). There are really good weapons I'll keep an eye out for - but the scepter is a dungeon drop that is still really good and much easier to get.

So, what do YOU want to play? What do YOU consider "good enough"?

Lets be real, it cost 10 gold to twink.

You dont need to spend hundreds of thousands of gold to be powerful - Random Dungeon gear is free & so is farming materials for your professions. If you'd rather purchase your enchants, get mats...It'd cost no more than 10k to enchant every slot.

I poured 600k+ gold into my 24 priest & he is by no means unstoppable. In contrast, my 29 paladin ran about 10k and is extremely powerful. Really doesn't matter how much you invest, most people who dump mad gold are just being extra for bragging rights or to grandfather their twinks.

Grandfathered BiS items can be expensive, and you should not expect to get any gfed bis for less than 200k/piece. (on EU atleast)

Items like Blackvenom Blade, you should not expect to get for less than couple millions.

the easiest class to gear is a fury warrior/ret paladin, all the gold you use will be on enchants and that's about it (most importantly crusader).
