Possible drops from rares

Unique items that drop from rare enemies in Classic through Mists of Pandaria content now also have a chance to upgrade in quality.

We'll obviously see a bunch of research on this shortly as people test things out, but from the sounds of it, unique items that can ONLY drop from rare spawns will have a chance to upgrade. Here are some examples:

• https://www.wowhead.com/item=3011/feathered-headdress&bonus=3642 @ ilvl 31 is 11agi/10verse which would be the new BiS glass cannon helm for rogues
• https://www.wowhead.com/item=5243/firebelcher&bonus=4068 @ilvl 31 has 25int/6stam for a wand with extra int. Probably worth the loss of secondaries
  
• https://www.wowhead.com/item=6632/feyscale-cloak&bonus=4068 @ilvl 31 has 6int/7stam for possible BiS caster cloak
  
• https://www.wowhead.com/item=5423/boahns-fang&bonus=4068 @ilvl 31 has 12str/8crit for farmable high weapon damage str 2h
  
• https://www.wowhead.com/item=5422/brambleweed-leggings&bonus=4069 @ilvl 31 has 11agi/11crit for possible new BiS leather legs

I haven't gone through and looked for a list of rares that drop specific items - feel free to share any that you know.

Not to sidetrack, but shadowleather armor does not bind these when applied, correct? So any BoE legs are Ok?

In case not just specifically named drops wind up being upgradeable. Blizz screws up sometimes.

Correct. You can enchant BoEs with shadowleather.

Add- Defias legs/gloves.

Yeah, the MoP leather leg armors don't bind - so any BoE legs are ok. There are only agi/str/stam options though - so casters may want to consider BoEs with stam, BoAs with int, or BoPs with nothing.

Side note...these upgrades may oust the fang/slitherscale set for max int. You'll probably give up a lot of stam/secondaries to do so, but it may be an option.

I don't think they would add the system and then just limit it to specific lot from rare mobs.
Seems like unnecessary extra work.

It if procs in general then it should proc on any reward and dungeon bags even.
Then again don't recall wod greens going purple. who knows.

The reason i think any rare mob can proc any item on loot table to purple is because wod rares are limited to single kill and set reward. Vanilla got it all opposite basically.

Green quest reward upgrade on the PTR compared to the BG Crate Blue- +28 Block ! Shame there were no secondary stats on it ( and it was on the PTR ) on a 19 Pala

I don't think there is a set list of quests that can proc it.
Looks more like any green+ quest reward in any 1-60 zone can go oof.

I would guess the race-specific zones would also be included. But we'll have to see. It would be a pain to farm cause you can't turn xp off in the goblin starting zone, right? Basically level to 19 and ONLY kill the rare a bunch of times until you finally level to 20, then delete and try again.

I'm probably going to focus on the rare drops - as I'm aiming on possibly updating the quick start guide. For quests - its going to be "do a bunch of quests, and if you get upgrades, great - compare the stats yourself". Not really worth adding individual quests to the quick start guide. With the farmable upgrades - I actually have a limited set of items that can be compared with existing BiS items.
