New to the 20s Twinking First Try Need Some Help

So put together some pieces I had in the bank Vet status atm, ran some AD with a friend and seems well rubbish….

My gear obviously not bis, room for more mastery (32%) but Holy shield overall damage was 1.6k ish and like 5th ability. Judgment was 8k something for comparison average running 2 Boss’

Yea that is basically a start to the build but it won't be super high in a Dungeon setting. It's in BGs where it will shine against Dots which procs Holy Shield far more. Every tick of a Dot is an opportunity to block it so when a bunch of Dots are on you then you will see a turret of Holy shards flying off you back at the enemy.

I'd say for PvE the better benefit in the end will be increasing your damage overall (Mastery= Attack Power) and it's mitigation from block and Cons.

A quick swaparound with gear I had in bank gave me 41% mastery outside bg. That's 131 stats and 56% block.

Yea that is a good area to be in for the build to really start to work as 56% block starts to become somewhat reliable. What kind of attack power do you have?

You know you could have a full set of mastery gear (no socket) easily for the price of one token. Make a lvl 1 on bleeding hollow and go look at the AH. Even savant gear (no socket) is cheap. Twink things like goblin BBQ, dragoninling etc are all available on BH too. And leveling to lvl 20 is fast. Obviously if you wanted sockets it's crazy expensive but it sounds like you don't need them anyways.

Yea don't think I'll be doing all that got 2 Twinks here now a BoE farmer my old mains with professions. I mean in the end I do want sockets as that is what will amp any build. Adding in 2str +2 haste or something else into a Mastery build which increase attack power just means a lot more dmg. I would also maybe just even go 13 gems all 1haste 1mastery if I wanted to see how high I could get it.

Ye, did abit of testing. Doesn't seem like something I'm gonna be playing with. But I'm very interested to see what gear you gonna come up with and how it feels in BG.

Yea, it's one of those things where you gotta really hit Stat breakpoints or the synergy of the build won't come together. I got a month of prep to do and see what I can tinker with. Looks like Raziel will be ready for some better test well before me. So interested at seeing what he has.

Cool he looks Beefy! Yea I'm thinking we really like to reach the 50% Mastery area but then it be what are we giving up for that perhaps.

I'll go test stuff in BGs then come back. Crusader is so strong (and scales well with mastery / vers) that I'll probably switch to Cudgel of Naralex for more procs. I had a crusader judgement crit for 1.1 k out of a BG lol. For context, my warlock gets 1.3k-ish chaos bolts outside of BGs.

That is good to know on the 1.1k crit. Yea in a Mastery build since it increases attack power it will make Str procs more powerful and you will do more damage. Interesting build and ideas you got

Yea looks like that is getting right around where you want to be. If only we could get higher mastery it will really pump in some BGs. Did you happen to look at the healing it did that BG? If the build is successful we are looking for Holy Shield to be your top heals.

Thanks for all the info though, did you like playing it? Did you feel tankier and or more damage output?

I'd say perhaps you would maybe like a lil more crit in the build as that would increase holy shields damage a lot. Since it's 100's of small attacks that would add up.

No but that last game where holy shield was only 13% of my dmg it was 4.2% of my healing.

Anyways I feel like prot pally success revolves around crusader procs so cudgel is probably mandatory.

edit; rofl. This survival hunter in temple had the orb in middle. I attacked him from 30 yards with a judgment + AS, he serpent stung me and I lined behind a wall. He died from holy shield procs lol

Well details only records Holy Shield blocks vs magic and Melee doesn't show up. Not sure if it was melee heavy fight.

Nice!! Yea that looks good. Prot should be top dmg in a perfect world. I do like that talent for that sort of thing.

Yea that is the fun part of the build is the crazy interactions like this that make me giggle. A hunter using rapid fire and holy shield rapid fire back. Or someone putting a row of Dots on you and it just rapid procs. You will see some fun things like this as Holy shield has a massive range too.

Yes but it's still a bit squishy. That 50% extra dmg tanks take in pvp can be rough. My warlock is stronger overall. It's nice change of pace though.

Yea, wish they would remove that or tone it down a bit. The reason it was so effective in BFA is Shield Block Value scaled so high by the end of the expansion that blocks were reducing dmg by 65% which more than wiped out the extra dmg taken. Shield Block Value has been nerfed quite a bit and was done again in 9.1 for no reason. A 28 BoE would perhaps help some with more dmg reduction from block value. Hopefully they buff block value again though.

Yea I bet they are, I did enjoy my Spriest too the few games and definitely want to take another crack at it again with more haste and enjoy just melting stuff.

if memory serves, theres a pretty robust discussion on farming vanilla BOE epics in the BOE farming guide thread. maybe... what? 5 pages in? I think?

Plate tanks need only worry about casters……. Like ur Lock
Usually tanks can negate melee attack damage well enough….
But to have a caster free cast on u…..
Ouch! Poisons can also be a nuisance.
There are Lock’s throwing some nuclear bombs in bg’s these days….. u gotta punch em in the mouth so they don’t get them casts out
I’d like to duel some Prot Pali’s on my DK. I’ve had some really cool fights in bg’s against Pali’s.

Most people are vets, and the difference is minimal after SL. F2P is if you want to hunt achievments.

As discussed by the boys who have been farming for vanilla epics, the old silithus/burning steppes spots no longer seem to drop epics so Suns old thread is irrelevant (unless one is just curious about where a lot of the pre-squish, scaled epics came from)

@MartinD738 specifically mentions the shield in this post where it appears as though getting one to drop for our level may be impossible, re: requires a low level farmer that is too low level to enter LBRS.

@zazzyfraz speculates here that ZulFarrak might be the answer, given its history and loot characteristics

And thats where we're at currently with regard to farming epics like skullflame.
