I'm better at fishing than playing pally, hence the DPR. I've been hitting the DMF up but not doing much in the way of BGs on this toon. I just can't get into the groove like on other toons. I think I should spend some time watching the vids for tips.

Indeed, well over hit cap.

In battlegrounds (where we're scaled as if we're level 24), melee hit cap is 10 for melee attacks/similar abilities, and spell hit caps is 15. That doesn't take into account racials, like Draenei +1% hit chance ratio, or Human expertise racial from using maces/swords (which boosts spell hit chance), both of which shave how much hit rating you actually need to hit cap.

If you're concerned that your Hammer of Justice misses (and really, it's only HoJ, not your other abilities facing this issue) despite being hit-cap, you're not alone, and it's a bug seen in other non-healer casters.


In other words, as a Draenei:
*At level 20: Eyepatch + sparkmetal alone is enough. (Even just eyepatch is enough. Edit:Actually, both.)
*and in battlegrounds, just eyepatch + sparkmetal + gorewalkers/BoA ring is enough to reach hit cap.

I think the magic number is 13 for draenei, and humans/dwarfs with expertise bonus. Getting capped for HoJ is not possible or practical. Just cap for regular spells and hope RNG is on your side.

Thanks for taking a look. I figured the racial would show up in the hit rating. I've been looking at the spell hit (miss percentage) on the character sheet in game and it looked like I wasn't capped.

Not sure why you wouldn't be able to get BoAs? But if you're horde, you can just use the WC shoulders/SFK chest. Unless you want the spirit leather, which isn't BiS on horde. You could also use feline mantle with nobles robe or tortoise armor.

Get the eyepatch, new shield will be better than the stocks one. But LFH is still better for holy, the patch would only be for an off spec

ok i have some pre-boa BiS gearing questions,

first what chest item should i get a few that look ok are
Martyr's Chain - Item - World of Warcraft or Phantom Armor - Item - World of Warcraft for mail
Grasp of the Broken Totem - Item - World of Warcraft for leather
Tree Bark Jacket - Item - World of Warcraft or Noble's Robe - Item - World of Warcraft

next is what shoulder item to use,
Magician's Mantle - Item - World of Warcraft or Feline Mantle - Item - World of Warcraft
looked like the only viable ones that dont conflict with other quest rewards

finally what MH weapon to use
Protector's Sword - Item - World of Warcraft or Cruel Barb - Item - World of Warcraft for swords

Diamond Hammer - Item - World of Warcraft
Crested Scepter - Item - World of Warcraft
Blackfathom Mace - Item - World of Warcraft
Baron's Scepter - Item - World of Warcraft
Gavel of the Order - Item - World of Warcraft
or

for maces

Smite's Reaver - Item - World of Warcraft for axes

as you can see i have no clue on how to gear a pally
for reference im a human holly pally
thank you for helping me with my gearing problems
also for gear like MM i dont want to chest farm or run endless dungeons for a rare drop, so i would love it if you could include a not quite BiS gear peace that is easier to obtain

Blessed Hammer of Grace (or this, though resilience for survivability is better), then either Plate Shoulders or BoA vest, followed by BoA trinkets.

The BoA maces should take priority, as the +42 (or +49 spell power in battlegrounds) (compared to less than 10 SP from 1h int maces/etc) is a very noticeable boost compared to the armor and trinket BoAs.

What he said, basically, including shields when 5.3 comes.
