Great game. Great gearing system. 0 P2W. Dynamic combo system in pvp. Scaled instanced PvP/arenas, Non-scaled World vs World pvp.
You MUST try WvW. It is an experience you have to live.
It is SUPER easy to get yourself a full set of decent gear (super cheap), which are on par with BiS gear (disappointing how few extra stats bis gear gives). But hey, its noob/alt-friendly, letting you go back WHENEVER you want after a long break and still be top tier.
I sunk hundreds of hours into this game playing a Thief (similar to Rogues on WoW), and a Ranger (similar to Hunters).
It really depends what your interests are. I focused a lot on World vs World (WvW), so I found a lot of success in my thief as a target caller/roamer when running with zerg groups (pack of 30+ players vs 30+ players). You have short engagement times, but have incredible burst, mobility, and evades.
When I last played (few months ago), Necromancers were the DPS class to play if you wanted play in an competitive WvW environment. Kinda boring in my opinion because your damage was basically just AOE rot. Servers would run around with 10+ necros and have so many AOEs on enemy zergs that youd just die from aoe/dots.
Make your toons on Northern Shiverpeaks if you havent picked a realm yet, that's where all my toons are at
I should definitely give this game another go.
I got tired of rogue after a while since the new meta completely countered my Thief in WvW. Picked up Chrono Mesmer (support). You can take a look at what "competitive" wvw looks like in the POV of a Chrono Mesmer.
Btw all the red circles are from Necros, like I was saying.

holosmith scourge and herald are the fun specs
an easy way to test specs if you havnt used boosts yet is you can go to the pvp lobby and you'll have access to all the specs and everything and you can buy level 1 weapons for a few copper off the auction house in thereI dont use discord, or any voice for that matter. Holosmith looked interested but I like scrapper more - looks pretty durable & tanky. I haven't tested scourge or herald much either. I'll be on in a bit to post my Battletag or whatever its called

hmm maybe ill buy the xpac and go soulbeast if theres multiple people playing
I am really enjoying the game. Me and @Sponsor were having a blast the other day doing WvW - which exceeded my expectations of Open World PVP & grew my interest with this game.
Battlegrounds are very fun as well - I played two of them so far: Got destroyed the first, and went 17-1 my second. Game seems to have a much higher skill cap than WoW does (know-how & being farmiliar with your toolkit is very important in GW2)
Other than not knowing which classes I'd like to play, and still being unfamiliar with everything, I'd definitely recommend this game. Nice change of pace, and a breath of fresh air.
Charr is the only race I refuse to play tbh. I dont dislike them, I just cant get into them. Their tail clips through my mount and I fear that their armor will too
Maybe I'll pop on this weekend.
If you like ele you’ll probably like engi as well. Scrapper is my fav.
Does anyone play this game? I just purchased the Heart of thorns / Path of fire DLC packs & currently have two level 80 boost. Its gotten quite repetitive doing the starter zones again, and again, and again...(trying to figure out which class I should play) so I figured it'd be more fun to venture with someone else. The game is free to play, and is what I consider one of the more polished MMOs. If anyone is interested in playing let me know!
I'd also greatly appreciate any tips, tricks, or advice from previous GW2 players, as I am still learning the ropes.
