I think the reason is because you only lose 19 ilevels from switching to sunstrider axe, which bearly affects your stats. The 3.5 speed makes up for the tiny loss of stats.

This is also the reason why Loom 2h Axe (3.8 speed) is better than Emil's Brand (3.1 speed). It's not worth the extra 7 ilevels for the loss of 0.7 speed.

EDIT: Sunstrider Axe has been GFed for quite a while since it can only be obtained as a DK or Shaman now that the rewards are chosen based on your class rather than choosing it manually.

It counts as an ilvl 24 item, not ilvl 5, so it will only be -3 from the box weapons and -7 from gutterblade

my goomblade damage went from 355 with heirloom to 439, i dont have any 19 on horde to test

So statwise - everything ilvl 24 and under is the same. Do different weapons scale differently in terms of attack speed, weapon damage, etc? Or are any 2 swords the same?

it seems like only spells based on weapon dps is affected by weapons in pvp
even auto attack damage seems normalized regardless weapon quality

They don't push you over the threshold for stat increase, but they might coupled with other items

anyone else feel like this way of gearing is super-gay?

like, it seemed like it was intended to take pve gear out of pvp, but had the exact opposite effect on low-levels?

i guess I should have known better, but I was hoping for balance.

i'm not sure I even feel like updating my characters.

edit: ok, i'll think about it. i just think this cheesing ilvl thing is just silly, but twinking is twinking, and it's supposed to be a little homo-erotic.
