it turns out i was looking in the wrong place for the expeditions que. im holding off on the arathi thing. i figured out something like this for the headless horseman mount before everything was account wide. i had 29’s already parked inside SM lib to farm DMH and during the holliday i just walked over to the SMGY door to see what would happen.sure enough the NPC was there but it was before scaling so it took a higher level group to kill. a 29 wasnt high enough level to do the holliday group que but once a group was formed and a player dropped you could be added. only the mount dropped which is the point of this long ass boring story. it had zero effect on pvp. im leaning towards this arathi thing getting fixed and gear removed but who knows. still 29’s with bullshit engi bombs belts and 180 items.

do you target large mobs of random npcs or go just to the elites? also are you a dps or tank spec?
Here is my POV as a twink arcane mage.
As soon as I get off the boat, I’m usually greeted by mobs right away, so I don’t bother mounting, as I’m specd into chrono shift. Offering 70% movement at all times essentially. From here I use a combination of shimmers, slows and arcane barrages, and frost nova every 25 seconds for even more movement speed since it procs legendary movement speed ring, to gather far to reach mobs while also advancing through the island.
Knowing your limits on how much you can pull based on the map is key. Th dread wastes I and likely most twinks have a tough time with. Half the mobs on the island cast, and certain elite trolls cast a move that can 1 shot you if not careful. But knowing how to avoid that aoe and pulling mobs into yeti cave after power pulling can drastically change the speed of your run.
I’m usually pulling half the island, about 3k a write worth of non elites, elites, and rare spawns. This opens up the Azerite Rock Rare spawn with tons of azerite around him. 9 times out of 10, the place I chain pull the 3k worth of mobs to is NOT near the rock elemental that spawns, which is good because I can train mobs over to him after I clean up the 3k, on my way to him, and that usually is just enough combined with the Azerite for killing him and all the elementals around him (2k ish for the mobs leading to him and him and around him, 1k from the Azerite ore around him)
Islands take a lot of practice, but if you actually push yourself to learn down pat how much to pull, you will have them down to 5 minutes or less
Edit: assuming you have very decent movement speed like a demon hunter, or possibly druids.
