EU+US 8.2.5 testing and discussion

Chops

Soccer Dad
So me and @Ashlander spent some time messing around in the PTR tonight and here's what we got.

Party Sync quest rewards
Pretty much works as advertised. You group your twink with a new character, you engage party sync through the quest log and you can automatically replay quests your twink has done. Any quest that would normally have rewarded gear *may* reward a loot crate. I found it was about 50/50 chance of getting one. This loot is ilvl 19 greens which means the vast, vast majority of it is useless. But I did get 5/5 str/crit trinkets that are not unique.

I DO NOT KNOW IF THESE REWARDS CAN UPGRADE!

I only did one zone worth of quests and none upgraded but I might just be unlucky. That said, I don't get the impression that they're supposed to.

It's worth noting that the items I got were not suffix items, but rather had set item stats.

Party Sync PvP
We werent able to que for BGs (obvs) but we did get arena ques. Party sync does work for pvp and scales your higher level toon down to 29.

(This is contrary to how party sync is described in the official announcement, but whatever. Im not salty. Nope. Not at all)

The high level toons gear will scale to ilvl 33, regardless of what ilvl it actually is. We tested this on a 39 warrior of mine, as well as a level 70ish DK and a lvl 102ish DH.

Higher level toons have their enchants and weapon/gear procs disabled, even if these enchants are useable by regular vet toons. My 39 warriors scepters did not proc, nor did crusader. Ring enchants, minor speed, satyr, etc are all disabled. Trinket procs and on-use are disabled. Notable exception: rune forging enchants on my DK worked. But that was it.

DKs and DHs do have some skill restrictions. They are restricted to their first tier of talents and all skills at that talent rows level. So DKs will have level 56 and lower skills, DHs will have level 100 skills and lower. This gives them a remarkable kit, but no enchants and fairly low level gear for a 29. They are, essentially, similar to a well geared F2P... with spammable slows, insane mobility, AoE stuns, etc.

Also of note, all honor talents are disabled for higher level toons through party sync, including trinket.

Edit: Questions I have. This is more a note-to-self section I'll add to as I think of things but if anyone wants to check on these...

* Party sync disables usable enchants on high level toons but I never checked if it disabled them for the lvl 20s they grouped with. Does it?

* do all of a DKs runeforging enchants work or just fallen crusader?

Does mastery rating on gear for the scaled down toons or other higher level suffixes give stats or do they completely follow the old template system like before?

Thanks for the info, @Chops & @Ashlander!

I have a question though:
Did you guys test if Double-Jump worked for the DH in the Arenas at level 29?
Just seems like the type of class ability that might get disabled.
double jump and glide both worked. So did the double dash, imprison and AoE stun. Theyre gonna be a nuisance if people decide to play them but they dont have much HP and without enchants dont seem like they'll do much damage. Just hyper mobile.

A type of class perfect to get the flag out of the enemy base then pass it on to a sturdier tank?

Mad props to both @Chops and @Ashlander for digging-into this... the sooner we're able to discern the intricacies of new mechanics, the better! ;)

If you'll be doing more testing, some "edge cases" I'd be curious about:
  • Would two same-level characters (with disparate quest-progressions) be able to "sync", or does it literally require a lower-level party member?
  • What happens when you're "synced" with another player, and they accept a quest that you're not the correct race/class for? What about subsequent quests that use that quest as a prerequisite? (For example... a Paladin guiding a "newly-made Troll" normally wouldn't be offered any of the starting-area quests, because they lack a corresponding Class Trainer to initiate the Echo Isles quest-chains.)
Definitely grateful to have folks "in the lab" for this... thanks again! :D

Show me where you addressed that? Lmao

I think unique gear attributes/bonuses fall under the parameters that were covered by his example of a level 39 twink, whose bracket-specific gear procs did not work in lower level bracket's arenas.

Higher level toons have their enchants and weapon/gear procs disabled...

My 39 warriors scepters did not proc, nor did crusader. Ring enchants, minor speed, satyr, etc are all disabled. Trinket procs and on-use are disabled...

I did the quests in westfall on two level 20 warriors. Any characters can sync, it's a matter of "have you done the quests" rather than level.

As for the second question, no idea. When I get back in town Monday, I can give it a whirl and see.

It occurs to me that I also need to see if these replayed quests count towards quest totals for achievement purposes.

Show me where you addressed that? Lmao
I guess not.

Can you confirm the appearance of the items dropped and if shoulders and helmets also drop?
It seems to me they are using the class default set.
Didnt even bother. The stuff dropped is so worthless I didnt check appearances or anything. I suppose I can eventually though. I dont remember getting helm/shoulders but that doesnt mean they dont drop. Again, I only did one zone worth of a quests and about 50% of the quests didnt reward a box.

for the pvp sync did you try equiping boas on the higher level? what about gems were they disabled or scaled down?
BoAs scaled to ilvl 33, same as everything else. and gems were disabled, though they werent greyed out (odd) but they didnt provide any stats.

I am curious as to how demon hunters will change the FC meta with their double jump.

Maybe i'll have a reason to finish gearing my 100 twink DH now

There is no "meta" dude, because there are no wargames. FC on whatever you like.
