EU+US Windwalker Monk F2P

Is Windwalker Monk a DECENT class to roll for the F2P bracket for a returning twink player?

It's been a while since I've played. After hearing about the changes to F2P and the decent place the bracket is currently in I decided to fix my computer and give F2P another shot. I started leveling a Windwalker Monk, being sure to save all my quests rewarding green or blue gear til I hit 20 for the chance at an Epic proc. I should've asked this before I put time into the character, but what does Windwalker Pvp look like at 20? I'm not asking if they have "amazing dps" or are the "best class for 20's" (which is obviously not even close), but I really just want to know whether or not they have any viability at 20, or if I'm wasting my time.

All the best,

to put it simply, i'd consider them mid tier

now obviously if you want a WW to be as viable as possible you'll go vet. WW have okish dps (i'd put them around the same area as a ret, maybe a bit less) that can be enhanced by double ele force and satyr, but WW have off-healing, roll, a slow (i'm pretty sure,) etc. They may not be the huntards and fury warriors of bgs but that's not to say they don't have their place.

if you're twinking to kill lvlers then i'd advise against playing WW and just playing MW or a different class completely. if you prefer your twink bgs to have a little more thinking involved than just kill kill kill WW might be a blast to play.

most specs are at least "viable" in their own way (despite a few, cough cough assass rogue.) what you should really do is make sure you're playing a spec you have fun with before you start playing some fotm trash just because haha big damage. every spec (mostly, cept tanks ig) has their place in a bg and can perform certain tasks better than others.

I really appreciate the detailed reply. I do enjoy the spec, it's the main reason I chose WW in the first place. I'll most likely being doing BGs. Your first sentence, about them being mid tier, and when you mentioned the usefulness of off heals and roll, made me more comfortable with my decision. I wasn't too worried about them being up high on the tier list, and I'm sure once I get used to the class it won't matter whether or not they're top tier, mid tier, or low tier. That, and I know I'll enjoy it at least.

Thanks Ohti

They are viable for sure, before you start comparing them to healers. Annoying to face in premades, not much trouble to face in any other situation.
So they're moreso useful as an addition to premades? How do you mean? Like harassment wise? Or just difficult to compete with while on a decent team?

Yes that, the meta is pretty much ranged so you'll need some good heals to compensate for the damage you'll be getting usually. They're very annoying to face with the consistent slows and damage they have

Youve also got an 8s root actually, which you can use to demolish melee in 1v1 by 2x disabling them and then just walking away to heal and coming back.
Only problem with ww that has been my pet peeve is that blackout kick at sub 29 costs 2 chi (same as RSK) so you cant spam blackout kick if you have to (mastery doesnt work at low levels so spam away)

I'd say roll whatever suits your playstyle. Meta changes constantly therefore as long as you enjoy the class it will be fun. You can always roll mage and spam 1 to win, but the question is how much can your fingers or your keyboard handle? My point is, if you want to play monk - play it, because eventually you'll still want to go back to the class you originally wanted to play or try.

I would not suggest a WW F2P, because with the lack damage we already have, and now the lack of enchants, you will do noodle damage.

I have a 20 vet monk, I am not too geared nor do I have any mentionable upgrade epics. I have dual [Darkwater Talwar]'s that both have elemental force, with really no other enchants, not even Satyr on neck. Now, let me just say, they are a ton of fun and can be such a nuisance to people in BGS, ESPECIALLY the fc.. if you use their slow twice in a row, it roots the person in place. I have successfully killed the EFC because of this. Even if a druid re-shapeshifts, I can still spam my slow because it is THAT low of energy usage. Double elemental force and the chance of a shadow bolt dealing 27 dmg because of my Talwar's, it makes Fists of Fury do some serious damage.

Pro's
  • Fun, interesting, cheeky, unique
  • Nice bit of burst from Fists of Fury
  • Root usable whenever with a small energy usage
  • Gap closer via your 2 Rolls and if you role highmountain, a third gap closer with their racial
Con's
  • Easily kited if your rolls are on CD
  • A bit squishy
  • No defensives other than your heal, which you may only get 1-2 off because energy is used for both heals and abilities unlike Elemental/Enhance Shaman having mana separate for heal usage same as Moonkin druid.
  • Your energy regens slow, so after your combo, you're pretty useless for a bit considering you have nothing to help chi gain or energy regen
  • NO interrupt ability

I've encountered a fairly dangerous vet WW the other week. Their power actually surprised me.
But FTP? I dont think it'd be a great choice. Might be a fairly strong CC bot with disable, but that's about it. Could maybe do that better as BM though.
For FTP monk, I'd suggest MW.

If you play to objectives, know your class and are helpful to your team then you are good to have in any BG.
I have a lot of respect for players who choose to play uncommon class/specs, and as a healer I always throw heals their way.
