Vanilla players tell Mists of Pandaria players about "Back in the day"

Back in the day:

-if I wanted the next spell rank of bite, for instance: my pet has Bite 1 and I just dinged my pet to the level level requirement for Bite 2, my ass had to go tame a beast with Bite 2 and use the pet in combat until the game decided it felt I had learned Bite 2. Then go teach it to my pet.

-Speaking of leveling pets... The pet didnt start acquiring XP until you fully dinged the next level. If you were lvl 45 and tamed Humar, he'd only be 18 and you had to level that dude. The catch was: he only gets XP when you do. So your ass is walking around pulling agro with a level 20 something pet who YOU have to protect in some weird exchange of roles.

-Cool 20 second buffs had 30 minute cds...

Back in the days you sat in LFG chat and built your own dungeon groups
Back then raid target icons had a good use
Back in the day you had librams on your twink's hats
Back in the day you could queue for unranked arenas on your twinks. R.I.P.

back in the days, spirit wasn't as useless as it is today - spirit increased proc rates and also provided far more health/mana regeneration, if you had enough, you regained more than you lost in a fight - gg

"of the wolf" (agility and spirit) gear was awesome for hunters.

Back in the day when you saw a Grand Marshal or a High Warlord you went nuts.
Back in the day when rogues were considered good if they had two cruel barbs both enchanted with firey.
Back in the day when Seal of Wrynn was on every 19 twink.
Back in the day when warriors used Smites Mighty Hammer with +25 agility.
Back in the day when you rarely ever saw a 19 twink with Sentinel's Medallion or Scouts Medallion talking about rings too.
Back in the day when you had libram chants on your legs and helmet.

BTW this is coming from 05.

Back in my day it was skill and hard work above all else, including PVP/PVE, since every new patch from TBC the game was more and more idiot friendly - ofc that progressed so much that now the game is retard friendly.....

False. In vanilla, you could 1 shot someone with Pom Pyro, in vanilla you could 1 shot with windfury, in vanilla combat rogues could stun lock you with 100% uptime if they got lucky... FROM PROCS I agree many things have been dumbed down... but you seem to be forgetting how pvp was in vanilla. OH also, you got rank 14 by playing lots, not by being good, you actually have to know how to play to get gladiator.
Vanilla raids weren't harder either (skillwise) they did require more grinding tho. Heroic mode is harder (skillwise) than anything from vanilla. Vanilla raids jsut took longer to beat because you needed resist gear and had to get 40 people to get along for 6 hours straight. TBH, most vanilla fights involved more standing there and tunnel vision dpsing, there are many more mechanics the average raider has to watch out for now. The game has gotten harder (heroic mode, arena) and dumber (raidfinder)

Gladiator = win trading.

Ah yes that was nice and so did badges from bgs.

Right before BC my guild decided to go from 59s to 60s Bracket so I went to the battlemaster and turned in badges to ding 60 :)

Ran to the bank and pulled out my blue pvp set that was waiting for me hehe. Wore that halfway throuh BC. was very bitter when it wasn't worth wearing.

That's what I've hated the most about the carrot on the stick mentality. Work really hard and accomplish something cool only to have it be crap or in everyone's hands the following week.

I enjoy Vanilla, but compared to today, come on. I know, it was better for difficulty, but it was also an annoying grindfest. BC and WoTLK were the best WoW times for me, followed by MoP. Cata is garbage.

BC>WoTLK=Vanilla>MoP>Recyclefailysm.

Back in my day the average mount costed 90g at lvl 30 not 3g at level 20. Back in my day the towers of eastern plaguelands were world pvp zones meant for brutally slaughtering either faction. Back in my day Ilvl was gears core and it was an addon. Back in my day trainers actually did their jobs. Back in my day hunters weren't given tame beast they had to learn the skill. Back in my day there were no pets at lvl 1 you had be a man and learn to fight without on in case it died. Finally back in my day 60 was a dream that many thought unacheivable.

Regular riding was at level 40 and never costed 90g per mount

Chuck Norris jokes in Barren's chat.

Back in my day
make a hunter kill deer for sinking to make your armor
kill one in Darnassus get 1-shotted by a giant tree
ended my childhood right there

back in vanila my original server - Khadgar - was a one big "twink" zone - we, that is the server, lvled together - from 39 to 49 from 49 to 59... and ppl paid like 1k to get mats for arcanite reaper - a lvl58 blue... ah, and important note - it was actually fun and rewarding to play a war in all of those brackets

Back in the day, the Unstoppable Force truly was unstoppable.

Back in the days, Alterac Valley was just so much more epic..

Ivus the Forest Lord
Lok'holar the Ice Lord

+ Wolf and Ram Riders...

When AV and Wsg were the only 2 BGs and you had to queue @their entrances because there was no battlemaster in the citys.
You could fear/polymorph for 60 seconds and a mage had to skill 5 points in Arcane Explosion to make them an instant cast (cast time was 1.5s)
And this was pure vanilla fun...we were young and naive. We didn´t know better!

Hello guys, new to the site. Been thinking I might make a f2p account and twink :) Anyway, old school vanilla field marshal mage (mal'ganis alliance) here, so here's my contribution to this reminiscing thread!

- Back in my day, you had to run to the bg's to queue.
- Back in my day, druid flag runners in WSG wore an item that put people to sleep if they attacked them
- Back in my day, in premades 2 mages could destroy entire groups by spamming Arcane Explosion
- Back in my day, warriors were murderous rampaging beasts who always had pocket healers
- Back in my day, resilience didn't exist and PvE gear was used in PvP
- Back in my day, I could blink if a rogue jumped me, and poly them then unload, without having to worry about BS shadowstep or cloak of shadows
- Back in my day, one shotting people was a thing
- Back in my day, I had to play all day every day if I wanted the best gear
- Back in my day, some people still played on dial up and it was actually possible (although worse obviously)
- Back in my day, you knew who your opponents were and respected them, because cross server queues didn't exist
- Back in my day, faction changing didn't exist
- Back in my day, you could talk to opposing faction players through 1337 speak
- Back in my day, "go as sd d a p" was discovered
- Back in my day, people camped rooftops to kill people, and flying mounts didn't exist
- Back in my day, Maraudon was patched into the game, and it was amazing
- Back in my day, arenas didn't exist

I'm sure I could sit here all day and think of all the good memories, but that'll do for now :)
