Military standards are a joke. The shorter and skinnier you are the better you do; both of these traits suck in combat.

.5xBW press
1xBW Bench
1.5BW Squat
2xBW Deadlift

should be the criteria. Novice can achieve those in under 6 months with proper training and the results are far superior to running 2 miles quickly

For some reason I doubt you have any experience on what "sucks in combat" outside of a video game.

USMC PFT standards are not about strength, it is endurance. You are scored on crunches in 2 minutes( min 50), 3 mile(28 min), pull ups/flex-arm hang. How many of you maggots can run three miles? Let alone in 28 minutes. Or even do 50 push-ups in one sitting? 75?

/cheers

Do you really think crunches and running three miles are good indicators of who's combat ready? Again, short, super skinny people will perform better and body weight/endurance tests. Strong people will succeed in combat when they're required to carry their buddy from the battle field.

The fitness community is pretty fractured in what it thinks is "best" as far as training goes, but I've never met a single athlete of any modality that thinks army fitness standards are difficult or useful.

I KNOW that many recruits can not pass the test when they arrive. And I KNOW that combat troops can pass the test when they leave. I also know that most civilians have nothing to compare combat training to in their daily lives.

We call those "beginner gains"

If you're told to do push ups and run every day, you'll be REALLY good at push ups and running when you retake the test, but not much else.

Again, my argument is the current standards of fitness set by the Army are not indicative of combat readiness based on the fact that strength percolates to all other aspects of fitness whereas endurance does not.

was expecting great trollness from the title, found semi gay porn
very dissapointed..

would have voted for marb if I could tho..

Strength won't do diddly for you when you are 87 pounds of gear across eight miles of terrain and you can't get past the first mile. You have no idea how many washouts have not made it because they were thought they badass and the small guy made the cut. They went home cryin to mama to suck on her teet. And it's that I have made my point clear. Over and out...
