should i draenor time for non draenor drops?

i found this and i now have questions lol

"Sockets can be located on every piece of armor; however, each expansion has a different set of armor pieces that can have sockets.

Depending on the source, from World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor onwards, certain items that don't usually have sockets have a chance to drop with a socket."

like should i be in draenor timeline always when im questing even when im questing in non draenor areas ? or should i be in the most recent expac timeline ? for like epic upgrades and a chance to have a socket

will my current timeline have any effect on the outcome of drops from anything quests drops world drops other expac dungeon boss ect???

even if its a rolled chance and not guaranteed im just curious so i can put myself in the best possible position for loot
 
sounds like you're a little mixed up.

chromie time will affect drop ilvl, that's about it. no it doesn't influence random upgrades.

random upgrade chance/types differs by the xpac of the content, I'm sure a few threads here document the differences between them, though I can't remember just which thread had it summed up in the 1st post. i think in the old sl 20s section, don't think anything has changed to make it outdated. getting a dwarven bunker in your garrison will up chance of wod openworld quest loot upgrade. there's a similar thing in the class hall for legion.

it's not clear what your level or goal is, but other than a handful of things, your best stuff usually comes from dungeons/raids.
 
The only items that can socket now are Head, neck, wrist, waist, finger x2

The only items that can epic proc to ilvl 87 are WoD dungeons and all dungeon quests:

Timeline has some effect on trinket scaling/mob health that is buggy but it doesn’t change loot/proc chance.

You want the bc dungeon quests to proc (ideally) and then it’s wod farm time.
 
general section rather'n 20s, and he's talkin bout questing, so i didn't presume he's talkin 20s stuff.
that quest links nice, but wasn't the one i was thinking of. we had one at one point that listed out which xpacs world/dungeon drops could socket and couldn't, warforge and couldn't, tertiary or not, etc.

ive got some rares legs with prismatic sockets on my lvl 10
