Shadowlands Pre-Patch Check List

I cannot imagine they will leave these and the legion quest rewards grandfathered in.

I expect current items will be thrust into a level requirement...as well as the quest rewarded azerite items as well.

That said, it was good while it lasted. Never did I think I would get my ilvl on a level 10 into the mid 40s.

it takes a bit more programing to do i assume

Yea I have no clue how programming stuff like this works, but I know all items have an item ID so I'm curious as to why it is only affecting newly dropped pieces rather than the ones we already have too. Just is interesting to me! We'll see how long it last!

perhaps, but sometimes they just leave it be and let it die out, since no more drops can be entered into the pool.

I believe its because they cannot scale everything previously without knowing the lvl since it would ruin players gear. they cannot stuff a lvl requirement on it without ruining other levels, so they just scale the new drops. They are also random rare drops, so they don't have a pool to draw from to easily change. They are also pretty different drops, so they probably have to do them manually.

tell that to my priest that nearly had full legion rares day 1.

It would not be hard at all for them to give the current version of the items a level 40 requirement for the legion quest rewards and the ilvl 44 drops. They change the stats of items all the time with things like squishes as well. They did it with heart of azeroth and disabled it, so they could do it with these as well.

No, because they are meant for levelers. they do not want a ton of rares to be effectively unavaliable for levelers.

Legion drops had a lvl requirement on them, these did not. They were also within all legion dungeons and were much more widely obtained by levelers.

They don't need to make every single drop require level 40. They'd only need to take the items and, say, make the required level equal to item level minus 5. That would be enough to keep the items for levelers while nerfing them for twinks.

Thats easier said then done I imagine, warcraft items are unique. its why when they drop they dont change except for the specific case of heirlooms, but only when you level. I imagine its partly due to the engine. They would potentially have to manually go for every case, and I doubt they wish to do that. So they just nerf the new drops like they do for most grandfathered things. It isnt really a big deal for them I imagine, so they just prevent new items from entering the pool and leave it at that. They might change it idk, but probably not. I am not a dev so idk how all the programming works, just stuff ive picked up over the years. A miniscule amount of players obtained this in comparison to the warcraft population, while leveling gear a ton of levelers and players farmed and obtained the legion dungeon gear.

apart from item id there is also bonus id. bonus id determines if it scales to level (there is an extra modifier for the level), or if its fixed ilvl (different bonus id for different ilvl).
the legion dungeon drops already scaled to level, just that they did not have reduced stats when they scaled to a lower level. that was fixed by fixing the stats on the scaled items, which retroactively fixed all the existing items.
draenor items did not scale to level, they are fixed ilvl. newly dropped items scaled to level, so they have a different bonus id from the old items. they can still fix the old items by putting a level requirement on the bonus id, if enough people send bug reports then they might do so

i dont believe so, I have never seen a case where they added a level requirement to one item that was effectively the same, while not having it on the other. Maybe they can and do that now(not sure if non trait chests have a lvl requirement or not) but either they cant do it or they don't like to do it, or they dont feel its a concern enough to spend the time to do it, especially since no new players can get it so it will die out eventually. Perhaps something will change, but if they aren't making more changes, without a significant reason I doubt they would. Every item is added to warcraft differently and has different properties to it, so I imagine it depends on the item too. We would really need a behind the scenes look to know what and why something was done.

Wait so were ilvl 50 legion items nerfed or no?
dont know, noone tested yet recently

legion BoEs. a version that scaled to level that had the specific level requirement of the character it dropped on. and high ilvl versions that had a level requirement of the old level 101

Yes, but this was specifically designed this way, it was basically a scaling item from 101-110. Not after the fact changed.

the are different versions. https://www.wowhead.com/item=141585/six-feather-fan?bonus=0:1472 wowhead's scale to level broke after prepatch, but you can see there are different item versions. the scales with level versions had different level requirements, the normal versions with different ilvls were all 101 requirement (not sure what happened to it after prepatch)
