SFK Shadowfang farm

Hello everyone,

Main is finally on a roll and can now easily farm SFK. I was wondering if people knew exactly which npc's dropped Shadowfang. There's very vague and different information out there. Some sources claim it only drops from bosses, other sources say it drops from trash, some sources say only lvl 24+ mobs, others talk about parts in the instance. Knowing the correct droprate would also be nice.

I'm planning on doing about 1.000 runs, so I'll be spending quite some time here so every bit of advice and information will aid in my grind and couple possible save me hundreds of hours.

Just kill everything. If you want your odds to improve 2x, become a blacksmith to open locked treasure chest. Unless you're a rogue, of course.

I always thought it was +3 for an item for rare drops and +5 for epics, so with that in mind it would mean level 22+ mobs have a chance for dropping shadowfang. Chests on the other hand dont have access to instance loot, still wouldnt be a bad idea to open them for the occasional fotl, redbeards or any other rare quality boe.

I am in fact doing it on a rogue. Are you saying the chests have a chance to contain a Shadowfang and other BOE Blues in classic?

Are you sure this would work for Classic? Ilvl isn't even a thing in Classic and they changed the drop mechanics alot throughout time.

ilvl is a thing in classic, it just isn't showed in the tooltips..

I am not certain if shadowfang drops from chest...it may be mob specific but yes blues drop from chest. I’ve probably gotten 3-4 blues from chest so far

It is not, while iLvL is a thing in Classic (can be shown by Dejaclassicstats addon) it won't matter because Classic had no upgrade mechanics. 100% of all Shadowfangs that drop will be identical.

If there was any confusion, what I mean is shadowfang is level 19 and from what I believe it's a minimum requirement of dropping off a level 22 npc, I haven't farmed for fangs in quite a while so I don't have any solid evidence of this, but I do know it's a minimum requirement of +5 levels on an item to have an epic drop chance. Aka nightblade is 39, so minimum npc would need to be 44+. If you could, keep track of what level mobs drop which rare value items and it should become more clear what's what over time.

Mobs can drop rare items up to an ilvl = monster level + 3. Shadowfang is ilvl 24. It should be a possible drop from any mob >= 21 in SFK.

This is how drops 'should' work. I have no idea if this actually the case.

Not sure what server you're on, but if it's high pop. it's probably faster to just farm gold and buy one

yeah but it doesnt feel the same. The feeling you get, looting a SF for the first time, is just Awesome.

Classic is 5/h, 8 hours a day, 40 runs per day, 25 days for 1k runs, got a feeling he isn't at 1k runs yet.
