They are regulated. The US has many many gun regulations. Like I keep saying, criminals don't care about laws and regulations. That is why they are criminals. Only law abiding citizens do. Tighter regulation will just make it more difficult for law abiding citizens to obtain firearms, not criminals.
Just as the death penalty really does not keep people from committing heinous criminal acts. They do them because they think they won't get caught.

I meant that it seems some americans has taken the law enforcement part a bit too serious - combine that with the right to bear arms, and maybe you have an explanation to some of the many gun related homicides in the US
