Frost or Fire Mage

Currently making a 39 twink. Not sure if I should get gear for speccing frost or fire(wand in particular)

I had 39 fire twink back in the day and loved it but I've grown a lot as a gamer since then. These days I think I'd prefer more control so I planned on going frost But... I just keep reading that fire is better or that fire mages are scary in that bracket.

What are peoples opinions? It's been so long I can't remember the ins and outs of what the fighting was like. Do you sacrifice much damage when going frost?

frost cant with a Frostbolt/CoC shatter combo?

frost can land 1400+ shatter frostbolts too but they're hard cast

fire's got instant blast wave+ increased fire blast dmg

you literally gib people in like 4 seconds. I cant really explain it you have to play against it to see it or play one yourself

fire probs. You could put 7 points into frost for 1 second frost bolt and 4 seconds off of ice nova? Both specs seem great though

What about talents? Imp scorch worth taking?

Imp scorch is pretty much a must. 0/20/0 would be standard, but there's wiggle room on a couple things.

Scorch is like your sinister strike. Absolute staple, and the talent gives you huge combo potential.

I'm pretty sure I didn't like imp scorch back in the day because I would use scorch later in the fights and most of my damage didn't benefit from the talent.

Not ruling it out this time around but I'll have to see how it fits with my play style.

That actually looks really good. I don't cast a ton of fireballs but it's really nice to have the points in there when you do.

it really comes down to what you aim to do. fire is super good damage in 39s and you’ll be able to shit on a lot of people.

frost means - like u say - good control and survivability. in a competitive setting (premade v premade or just organized pvp in general) frost will be the superior spec in most cases. add scatter talent and your damage isn’t bad at all either.

if you A) wanna go farm ppl in mid or blow up EFC solo -> fire

if you B) wanna grp queue or play premades or just do a supportive role in general -> frost
