EU+US Enchanting changes in Legion

*DOES NOT EFFECT INSTANCED PVP*

For those of you who aren't aware yet, Spirit is gone come Legion... More to point Spirit is gone come pre-Patch 7.0 which hits in 3-4 weeks. What they also took out is Bonus Armor and Multistrike. What I'm seeing on PTR, even though my Enchanting isn't working correctly, is just what Spirit / BA and Multi are changing into come Legion. As far as I can tell it looks like this:

ENCHANTING (any values given are baseline Level 100 in PTR)
  • Spirit / Bonus Armor (Live) = Versatility (PTR) [Mark of Blackrock as example].
  • Multistrike (Live) = Removed (PTR) [previously Enchanted Multistrike becomes a random Secondary Stat like Crit, Haste, Mastery].
  • Agi / Int / Str (54 / 108) added to Legion Cloak Enchant table, uncertain if scales down. If the 108 scales to 12 like Gift of Versatility does now then hot damn!!
  • New Neck Enchants added to Legion, uncertain if scales down [see below].
  • New Ring Enchants, similar to WoD's variants but with a bonus, uncertain if scales down [see below].
*NEW* NECK ENCHANTS (values given are baseline Level 100 in PTR)
  • Mark of the Ancient Priestess: Sometimes Heal nearby Ally for 6660.
  • Mark of the Claw: Sometimes increase Crit & Haste by 230 for 6 sec.
  • Mark of the Distant Army: Periodically summon a rain of Arrows upon your Target.
  • Mark of the Heavy Hide: Sometimes increase Armor by 461 for 10 sec.
  • Mark of the Hidden Satyr: Sometimes summon a Satyr that fires a Nightmare Bolt at your enemy, dealing 7926 damage.
  • Mark of the Trained Soldier: Mastery by 115.
LEGION RING ENCHANTS
  • The Word (low-Tier) and Binding (high-Tier) Enchants originally were slated to also add Bonuses to the Neck Enchant. Beta Build 20740 listed these but I saw nothing on PTR to confirm that they're in game yet, or still plan to be, lets hope they are.
The more interesting bit about the changes is just how MANY Slots will have Versa Enchants. There's far more than many even think, due to all the odd Stam/Spirit variants and what not. I can easily see 10's with >100% Versa without really trying, and maybe flirting with the 120's range (~60% damage reduction) come Legion fully buffed. While it won't matter for Instanced PvP, it certainly will for World PvP and all PvE.

Ranks of Enchanting from 1-3 Stars in Legion don't seem to effect the Enchant itself but the number of Materials required to make it.

As an aside, I saw nothing new for Leatherworking that would effect 10's, or any lower Level Twinks for that matter. There's no new Armor Kits, Drums or anything of the like on PTR as of right now (see below). I also saw nothing helpful in Tailoring for 10's, but Engineering might have some fun bits, more on that later.

If you look on the auction house on PTR you will see there are "Head" and "Waist" slots under Item Enhancement. Not sure if this is intended but it could be interesting.

To the people actively testing 10s on beta/ptr, what classes and or specs look promising come legion? The prepatch gear coupled with the versatility changes intrigue me.

Something worth noting is that Mark of the Frostwolf turns into critical strike, but can still stack more than one proc, So it's much better than Thunderlord.

Just an FYI, enchants will not be active in instanced pvp. Not really sure how these are going to be useful outside of marginalizing pve content.

Yeah I mentioned that near the end of the post, that it won't matter in Instanced PvP. There are plenty of folks that do World PvP and PvE with their low Level Twinks, including 10's. However I'll edit the OP with a disclaimer at the top so it doesn't confuse people.

I can say this only for 10's on the PTR.

(ALL Healers): Better than Live as DPS/Support, varied from slightly better than Live to much worse.
(ALL Tanks, except Protadin): Worse than Live by a large margin, all have lost tons of Mitigation, Pally Tank still good.

  • WARLOCK: Looking to be the most OP of all 10's in Legion.
  • HUNTER: Better than Live, uncertain about the new Melee SV Spec.
  • PRIEST: Holy is shit, Disco is no longer God Mode Healer but still good, uncertain about Shadow.
  • DRUID: All specs from slightly worse to much worse than Live, except Feral seems about the same.
  • PALADIN: Prot is actually better than Live (short of losing Mitigation), Holy is slightly better, unclear about Ret.
  • WARRIOR: Prot was gutted, Arms a little better, Fury looks much better.
  • ROGUE: Subt is worse than Live, Sin a little better (both require Daggers), uncertain about Outlaw.
  • MONK: BM lost all it's Mitigation but does good DPS, MW better than Live, WW highest Mobility of any 10 but lost FoF, sad Panda.
  • SHAMAN: Resto slightly better, Ele actually looks REALLY bursty, Enhance #1 WORST spec at 10, of ALL Classes.
  • MAGE: Arcane slightly better, Fire worse than Live (only 2 Casted dmg Abilities), Frost King of CC at 10 and much higher dmg than Live.

With the addition of Mage now, here's how I'd Rank 10's in Legion (overall, and just my opinion):

MELEE DPS
  1. Warrior - Fury
  2. Rogue - Outlaw
  3. Druid - Feral
TANK
  1. Paladin
  2. Druid
  3. Neither Warrior or Monk can really be considered Tanks at 10 in Legion.
HEALER
  1. Priest - Disc (yes even with the nerfs, just no longer God-Mode).
  2. Paladin - Holy
  3. Monk - MW
RANGED DPS
  1. Hunter - BM
  2. Hunter - MM
  3. Paladin - Prot (technically since they have (2) 30yd ranged high damage Abilities in Legion hehe).
CASTER DPS
  1. Warlock - Aff > Warlock - Demo > Warlock - Destro (Drain Life is probably going to be nerfed, it's STUPID OP).
  2. Priest - Disc
  3. Mage - Frost [OR] Shaman - Ele [OR] Priest - Shadow

Doing the math from the screenshot you posted, it would take 128 versatility to reach 100% damage mitigation. While I don't think that's possible on a level 10, if you made 77 versatility without even trying, I bet a "full versatility set" could reach 100 versatility i.e 80% mitigation.

That's a big deal because even though versatility stacks linearly, the effects work logarithmically i.e. going from 61% vers to 62% vers is bigger than going from 60% vers to 61% vers. In other words, every extra point of versatility is a bigger deal than the previous point.

I wonder if heartsong enchant increases versatility. I will have to check that one out.
Yes it does.

@Kirise My "without even trying" didn't include the DMF +6 Versa Chest (Cloth), +2 Versa (old Spirit) items like Bracers, Gloves, Belt, Boots, DMF Versa Vial, Group 3% Versa Buff, either Defending or Returning Trinket, etc. What I did have was full Spirit (Versa in 7.0) Enchants, except Shoulders/Legs, +4 Stam/Versa Food and Versa Weapon Proc (can't remember which I used). It will certainly be interesting indeed.

That's nuts! I went gear shopping on WoWhead for my 10 druid, and with just the versatility gear you mentioned, I could theoretically add another 39 versatility. Level 10s could easily blow past 90% non-instanced-PvP damage mitigation in Legion.

I don't know how this combines with the damage reduction from armor, but right now, it looks like any level 10 character in full versa gear should be able to reach 99% melee mitigation (I think there's always a 99% ceiling, but I have no source for that).

What's more, the changes for Enchanting completely rework what BiS Gear is (outside BG's) in that Main Stat is far less of a Priority, same with Stam, and it's looking like in Legion it's Versa or GTFO. I should mention, that while my Enchanting wasn't working properly on PTR, I do have all but 7 Patterns, and probably 1-4 GF'd Classic Patts, so I have a very large pool of potential Versa Enchants come Legion.

Ok I tried a little harder this time and achieved 129% (80 Versa) without Shadowmoon Weapon Proc and 152.29% (95) with it, this included +4 Versa Food and the DMF Vial (missing the Group Versa Buff, still not every pc with max Spirit or Defending/Returning trink). Also the DMF Vial gives 3% Versa on PTR instead of the 1% it gives on Live.

76.14% damage reduction from Versa with Shadowmoon proc'd, 64.36% without it.
13.64% Armor (39).
Unk Resists (didn't have any of the +Resist Enchants on).
1152 Health.

You could get more by replacing haste trinket with defending/returning champion.
