Couple of questions about hunters

I understand the best BoE items for a hunter is generally "of the Monkey" but how do bits like Scounting trousers of Power or Agility compare? or even of the Eagle?

And what would be the best weapon choice? I know most people use the Twisted Chanters staff but I see some guides recommending Furbolg + 1h instead

I've never played a hunter before!

Also.. just picked up Mindthrust bracers for 80s, how much are these things worth these days roughly?

Thanks

Pretty sure there is an entire guide pertaining to classic WOW hunters. Perhaps, 2 guides*

You may be interested in checking them out.

Use the guides with a grain of salt. For example, there are some guides posted on Wowhead and they don't take into consideration the different builds that are needed for solo queueing, pugging, full-on glass cannon, etc. It just says "bis".

The best 19 hunters from vanilla were built to be hard to take down.

Also, doesn't huntard use mana in this era? Is intellect=attack power? If so then you will need to balance that.

Intellect doesn't convert to AP yet. That comes much later. But that said, intellect is still super important, which is why most people put Twisted Chanter's Staff as your BiS melee. I always personally went for "of the falcon" stuff where I could and opted to lose a little health for more mana. I also always got 8agility enchants instead of 100HP enchants on legs and helms. I was always of the mind that I shouldn't be getting hit much as a hunter and would rather be putting up consistent damage. If I got into a situation where I was overwhelmed, rarely would the couple hundred HP make much of a difference in me surviving.

Twisted Chanter's is the boss for sure, I liked to run two - 22 int and 15 agi - swap when you use that banked mana. Also for Horde there's the Runic Darkblade which I highly recommend using if you get locked into melee.

When it comes to 100 hp vs 8 agi I think it's all down to preference. I personally loved being one of the highest hp hunters in the bracket and imo it helps when facing real competition. That being said, I think that 8 agi should technically be worth more than 100 hp in a vacuum and I will probably go with Voracity myself this time around.

Here's my old workhorse for reference: Sveepa 19 Hunter

Yeh.. Twisted Chanter is definitely the go to.. if you want to get really into the nitty gritty, you can run the entire gambit of needs... this is what my 19 hunter had in terms of melee weapons in BC:

Staff of the Friar with 22(?) spirit - for when I'm oom, but also don't have time to sit and drink.
Twisted Chanter with 22 intel - basically my default and how I start every game. Once I got to a certain mana threshold, I'd switch to ----
Twisted Chanther with 25 agi - the mid battle staple.
Massive Battle Axe of Agility with 25 agi - this was when I was approaching oom, but still in combat.

I also had an straight AP gear set that had absolutely no health increases, but afforded me an insane amount of damage. This is a very novel set and I don't recommend it for the average player. You basically CANNOT get hit and it is for short situations of extreme burst.

Unlike Outofspace, I never cared much about how much health I had... I always opted for the best dps / sustained burst option. I never felt bad running into a WSG with 1k HP when the majority of twinks had like 1500 or so... I put up numbers like no other. But it's honestly, to each their own.

Man, getting RDB for melee situations is some dedication, be very careful with xp if you go for that. Also if you're horde you can use a crescent staff instead of twisted chanters, it's free and you sacrifice 3 int for 7 spirit and 1 stam.

Listen to iz. He knows his hunters! Dude is a legend.

Thank you all for the replies! I appreciate it.

Looks like I’ll be running with a Twisted or two then.

Out of curiosity, which pet did you all use and why?

UGH, Had detailed post but accidentally lost it. But +25 AGI to 2 Hand is NOT OUT till Phase 5 ! So +15 Agi 1H comes Phase 3 on a One Hand + a 3/3 Off hand or Pouch will be your best bet for a Hunter. Also Pets depend on play style or type of game or what role your playing. If your playing objectives, example - Your escorting flag carrier or pressuring a EFC. Boar is best, main choice for me in premade's less you got an idea of your opponents comp then possibly Serpent/The Rake might be better.

The Serpent is strong on defense as well when protecting your FC, example - Holding Roofs Ramp and harassing before they can push up as a team. The Rake is good for spell pushback ie team lots of casters/priests.

Also Stam > Agi less your just trying to be a HK Mid Farmer. A Stam hunter wins mirror match up for a Agi Hunter. Though like someone mentioned above that you want multiple gearsets. So what I would do is switch off my +100 HP Helm/Legs and switch to +8 Agi whenever I'm about to connect on a EFC and pushing with my team.

My youtube channel, has lots of Hunter 19 gameplay footage recently from Light's Hope Northdale Pserver. Some got Comms so you can get a gist of what I'm doing and why.
