Soooo!

Your boy Crystal finally got down to polishing down the program that @Hashbrowns wrote. The rankings look crude for now, but they are working (at least they should be).

A little bit of explaination:

If you want to be listed in the rankings, please tick the box next to "Show only character's achievements to others" in game. You can find it by pressing esc -> interface -> social. This is also necessary if you are only interested in HK rankings, so it won't mess up with achievement ones.

If you want to be removed for whatever reason, just PM me. If you want to be added, please comment down this thread. Please check if you're not already on the list. If your account type is wrong (F2P or Vet), please PM me. If you see people that are listed as F2P but are obviously vet, or people that don't have "show only char achievements to others" ticked, please let me know.

If you have any suggestions, also let me know. If it's within my limited programming knowledge, I will implement it.

Hardcore ladder

You might have seen an empty ranking at the bottom of the page.

So, I thought a good way to refresh the F2P scene a little is to introduce the generally well known concept of Hardcore (HC) characters. The only difference between them and other characters would be, they only have one life. If you die due to whatever reason, be it stupidity, disconnect or a bug, then you are out of the HC rankings. For now, you will stop appearing there, and I'm working on a feature where your name would just be crossed out but your current position will stand. It's not easy for me though so try not dying for now :p

So far, I decided that limiting Hardcore rankings to Achievements only would be healthier for the bracket. If I implement Honorable Kills HC rankings, that could potentially detriment the quality of games with people playing ultra safe or sitting in stealth all game. If there's interest, I will add HK hardcore rankings (it's pretty much a matter of a couple of minutes work), however, then playing hardcore rogue or druid would be banned. Please let me know if you want HK HC rankings added. For now, when it's achievements only, rogue and druid are OK, but if HK HC are added, your achievement rankings rogue/druid would be disqualified.

There is only one Hardcore rule for now, and that is - don't die. This is not wow ironman challenge, you can use any gear and do any content you desire.

So, basically - I would like to know

  • Do you have any comments / suggestions concerning rankings?
  • Are there any bugs in the rankings?
  • What do you think about hardcore F2P rankings.

Go, play, have fun! I will try to update rankings every day for the first week/two weeks, then they will be updated weekly.

Pretty sure I've got 865 achieve beat :p but I'm "inactive". Nice initiative!

most hks without 100k yey. feedback wise though flag caps and returns would be sweet. Im interested in seeing what the numbers would be now 5 years later. Anyway, nice work.

Not sure if its me, but I can not find a single char that has the amount of achi points that you have listed. Also, what Dasha said + win % / cap % / return %.

That's the thing that bugs me the most. In game, armory and what API returns are three different achievement values. I'm guessing it has to do with account wide achievements, some count, some dont. I have to use what blizzard gives me via their API.

Nice initiative :)
Some competition in achievement hunting is the thing that motivates me to go always further ^^

EDIT:
The only thing that bother me a bit in that kind of ranking is that everyone is mixed up (especially those who have used huge glitches such as the DK glitch) which creates a pretty good gap in the achievement points (when compared to more recent twinks (i mainly think about instance achievements and character-achievement) even if the two have both put the same effort in their character, they're not really compared equally :/

I don't know how "your" program works, but imo (and it's only my opinion), to have a fair ranking there should be maybe two ladders:
- one like the one presented here, where everyone is mixed up with their total achievement points
- one where, for each character, only the achievements currently obtainable are counted.

For sure it's more work to do, and as I don't know how your program works, I can't tell if it can be done or not ... but imo, that's a decent way to rank everyone fairly on a common ranking (on achievements currenly available) while still proposing a "global" ladder showing more the "gf" stuff that characters have done

On some maybe, but Reflekt? 7.1k on list and 405 on armory.

I'm guessing it's a regional thing... but each EU link in your list resolves (for me, at least) with a 404 on the US WoW Armory.

Even your own character is listed as:
https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-eu/character/Magtheridon/Crystalpall

...and resolves to:

...instead of:

(It appears that the main culprit is the realm lacking any "prefix" in the URL...)

@Brihan makes a legitimate point... I don't know if it necessarily requires multiple list "versions", but at the very least it needs to have a few of the bigger "advantages" clearly labeled (and color-coded) so each viewer can easily skim for the "relevant" competitors at-a-glance.

VET & F2P is definitely a good start... but hopefully the API makes it easy-enough to scan for specific Achievements that might indicate Pure/Linked, DK/NoDK, etc.

(Who knows... maybe there's even an Achievement that could differentiate an #UltraSoloF2P from all the #LazyCheaters!) :p

I shouldn't say "it works for me"... but it does work for me. Official URL for eu armory uses en_gb, but I had to opt for en_eu because that's the "region" variable. I could do a check similar to if region = eu, write gb, but it would have to be in the middle of encoding a string (the url) and I have absolutely no idea how to do it. Since when I click en_eu link it automatically resolves to en_gb... but that might be because I live in EU so that's my default.

To address your points:

Don't worry about DK. If "show only character achievements to others" is ticked, no DK obtainable achievements are counted, however this doesn't fix the issue with raids achievements and other GFd ones. If anyone has an idea how that could be differentiated, I'm all ears - but what if a new big glitch occurs? Move everyone to GFd ranking?

Color coding f2p/vet seems to be the easiest of the bunch to do, but I still don't know how. This is how it looks like:

Yj1ujDK.png

I would have to stick an if before the "accountType.toUpperCase()" bit, so that if it's f2p it would color it one way, and if it's vet it would color it another way. The problem is it's in the middle of string creation. Another if that can be seen there (if deaths == 0), is okay, because it's done outside of it. I'm sorry but you've got a shit beginner programmer to work with it >.<

Hey bud my mage is vet but marked f2p. Let me know if you need help with anything, looking good!

Fixed

Also removed Reflekt until he cares to resolve the situation or it fixes itself on Blizz's side.

And updated for today.

Ofc it doesnt work with the wrong region? I dont see the problem?

I have both an EU and US account. It quite often happens when I want to check out the US Armory it loads up the EU one and vice versa. I think it just gets confused.
Probably doesn’t help I’m in Australia
There definitely is something that affects which Armory is loaded depending on Region.

As I mentioned in my parenthetical... the issue isn't what you URL included, it's what it lacks (a realm prefix).

You just have to change:
"/character/" + realm + "/"

...to:
"/character/" + region + "/" + realm + "/"

...and that should be enough to send people to the correct armory. ;)

Ok I didn't even know it does that, I'll include it and see what happens.

DK was just an example, but it's still relevant; if no DK-enabled achievements are "counted", then the character wouldn't show a DK tag... but if one unintentionally (or intentionally) sneaks through, it should be detected and "tagged" as such.

The same would hopefully apply to any other past/future glitch/feature that is deemed to be both "significant" and "temporary" (and "detectable")... categorize; query; tag-if-detected.

Such a system would also eliminate the need for any sort of rotating "GF Ranking" lists. ;)

I would have to stick an if before the "accountType.toUpperCase()" bit, so that if it's f2p it would color it one way, and if it's vet it would color it another way. The problem is it's in the middle of string creation.
Yeah, enabling a color-coded tagging system would presumably necessitate a new function that identifies/formats your tags prior to string-creating... so as to be subsequently available when the string-creation needs it.

I guess you're the only one who can decide if the "results" would be worth the "effort"... but regardless, good luck! :D
