Topic says it all. What scores do you care about in BG's and why?

I chose Healing Done, Flag Returns, and Flag Captures. Because they are the only stats in my opinion that show that you contributed to the team in objective play.

I didn't pick these because:

Killing Blows aren't a dependable statistic because in a battle with multiple players anyone can get a killing blow, it's more luck than anything.

HK's is all by proximity and just shows that you've been playing NEAR other team mates, but you can also get these through dumb luck.

Damage done can be done farming graveyards, not killing healers, or just sitting in mid which is a shame because objective damage dealers don't get credited for much.

Honor Gained is assigned mostly via HK's which is again, all by proximity and dumb luck.

I picked these because:

Healing Done is probably the only sure fire way to show you've been contributing, because you're keeping your team alive which is the #1 way to contribute in my opinion.

Flag captures is also dumb luck, but at the same time if you got one off it means you played the objective with your team, even if you have 400 hp, one player changes things in a battle ground and makes a difference.

Flag returns for obvious reasons. If anyone has a flag return you know they've been contributing, even if they didn't damage the FC, there's been times where I've downed and EFC alone and died right afterwards, and someone returned the flag for me, if they hadn't been there, the other team would've just grabbed it again.

These are all based on my personal opinions and experiences. None of it is an absolute fact, so don't waste your time trying to argue it with me because you'll look like a dumb-face poo-poo head.

Flag returns/ caps, any one can sit in mid and soak up everything else listed, I like when people play objectively instead of just soaking up scores that really won't matter in the long run.

Flag captures, returns, and sometimes deaths.

There should not be ANY stats in BG's, that way people focus ON the objectives (in theory). Take away honor from kills, and x10 the honor for capturing the flags (for everyone), and defending nodes in AB (ONLY at the nodes, sorry road warriors).

If you ask me it would go a long way towards correcting some things if Blizz's achievements didn't encourage it. You get to grind for a title through hks, achieves for every step of the way to 250,000 (ridiculously huge amounts of) hks.

Flag caps? One or three without dying. Flag returns? 50. No titles, nothing to work towards, nada. Imo, pl should get achieves for capping 500, 1000 flags. Returning 500 flags. Better than achievements for hks, cause you can bot and still get that. Achievements for objectives would mean something. Yeah people would still midfarm, but I think at least some would be swayed by a clear incentive not to.

lots of good ideas in this thread, but along with these, there could also be an alternative.

a crudely thought out idea is a 10v 10 death match. no GYs, but each player gets 3 body rezzes 3 seconds after dying (not counting rebirth/reincarnation/etc) it's quick, it's messier than arenas, and it's packed full of HKs. maybe you can get a buff after you rez to allow comebacks and extend game duration?

for me
deaths-#1 priority is not to die
then comes the healing part-how many teammates i kept alive/etc
unfortunately stuff like amount of healers silenced/amount of hands of protection/AGM purged doesnt count

i think teamfortress 2 has a better system- it tracks a number of sentries/buildings destroyed/sapped or medic how many ubers(its like invinciblity/lay on hands style) you popped(pretty much how useful you were to a team) or how much total you healed.Or how many caps defended, etc. Then again you cant compare 2 different games, and TF2 has its own skeletons in the closet.

I only care about flag returns when we are about to lose the 3rd one though

none of the above, for example, healer A does 30k healing healer B does 5k, but healer B never left he's fc and only needed to heal 5k.

score boards rarely tell the whole story.

^ This. As much of an epeen boost i get from topping heals significantly, I didn't vote it cuz it means nothing. I can go through mid won my way to the efc and get stopped by three hunters and just sit there for a minute healing through them until i go oom.

Statistics don't play a role in how the player helped the team. For instance, I have an hpal and rsham in my game. They have faster heal throughput for longer durations without ooming, so I assist through bubbles(not counted as a statistic) and well timed fear bombs( CCs and how effective that CC was are not counted as statistics)

flag caps.

gotta keep caps > games.

caps dont tell the story i'm afraid, i could be the most skilled 20 warlock in the world, a paladin will/should have more caps simply because i aint gonna fc on a lock :p

I don't generally look at score board for anything useful.

If a well known gy camping 24 is on my team, I try to ensure that I get the most honor on my team (even though I don't need it).

If there is no one with more health than me, I will sometimes look at our top dps and just heal them.

If I am beside a 24 pally for most of the bg, I will usually sort it by healing done to see how we compare. This is actually the stat I look at the most. It gives me an idea of how well the other healers did, or which hybrid dps on my team know how to help out. Granted, I know about how much healing each type of class should be doing in a bg. As Kahr pointed out, I take disc priests non-counted absorbs into consideration of what the stats show.

I look at deaths if I feel like I've died a lot in a bg to see if I'm just the only one. Or if my team is being farmed to try to talk to those people spefically to not rez.

Edit to add: the only thing I care about in a bg is winning, or at least feeling like it was GOOD fight. Sometimes the best bgs are the ones where you lose but it was a hellalota fun doing it.

- you can get high numbers just by healing gy campers.
