Undocumented lvl restrictions for crafted items and profession cap

My sub is almost up and I'm prepping a lvl 20 F2P toon. I want to know if I should grind vanilla engineering for the cloaking device and other +200 engineering stuff and if Zandalari items, like Unstable Temporal Time Shifter, will work.

It used to be your toon couldn't progress professions past lvl 100 with the starter edition, but the latest articles (<13 months old) say nothing about restricting professions, like they used to.

Also, it seems some people have been burned by wasting time grinding for Jeeves and what not, only to find their crafted items can't be used due to lvl restrictions that were not shown in the recipes tooltip - I'm trying to avoid that.

If +100 professions are unrestricted, I'd like to hear some tips - e.g., in vanilla, explosive sheep would zero in on a stealthed rogue, arcane bombs would AOE silence casters, gnomish death rays could (sometimes) one shot opponents, mortars could backfire on loading and send your toon flying across the map into inaccessible areas, etc. But I hear old engineering stuff has been nerfed hard because fun was detected.

To my knowledge there are no more profession restrictions for f2p. In regards to the not being able to learn recipes, there is a bug where you are unable to learn recipes that are dropped in zones where the level floor is higher than 20 (at least that's how I understand the bug.)

There are a few items and toys that have a level req on them, first ones that come to mind are the wormhole toys. Best way to find out is to learn the profession and then go to the unlearned tab (top of the items list, a bit to the right) and there you can see every item you could potentially learn and see the level restriction on them. Some crafted items can also be made usable using a relic of the past I (only BS, LW and tailoring can make relics, so stock up on marks if you are commit to the eng as final proff ). Eng has a huuuuge list of usable stuff for twinks, too many to be listed in a single comment, but the gnomish gravity well (cata engineering) in combination with goblin glider cloak enchant (pandaria engineering) will allow you to acces some areas that are fly only restricted. Go to the guide index thread, pinned on the 20' forum, there should be a guide for any other useful device made with eng. Have a nice evening!

Semi related.

This might have been more of a prepatch issue. so sorry if this is out of date.

but if certain recipes dropped in a zone outside of your level (ex a lv 30 zone) the recipe would inherit a hidden level requirement of that zone floor, even if you met the skill requirement of the profession.

The broader answer to your question is: 'No, you shouldn't grind classic engineering'.

Unless, you know, that's just what you want to do.

The only things that matter from professions are below.

Classic Alchemy: Alchemist's Flask
Panda Leatherworking: Leg Reinforcements
Panda/Cata Engineering: Dragonling, Goblin Glider on Cloak, Spinal Injector on Belt
Northrend Engineering: Grenades, Grenade Belt
Northrend Jewelry Crafting: +2/+2 Gems of Choice
Enchanting: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...Zqdg4xLaszpxjr2gfAMt7XZBs/edit#gid=1984333250

If you're into wargames, you can also grab Northrend Inscription for the Shoulder Enchants.

If you're a hardcore masochist, you can get a bunch of Classic Elixirs and use those instead of the Flask and run Inscription+Engineering in normal bgs.

The only recipe of marginal worth that I can think of that is f2p locked is Jeeves.

Ah, so farming the lvl 25 library guardians in storm peaks could be a bad idea for Jeeves. I just scrapped the Jeeves formula from a 19 mechanical in the geyser fields as a lvl 20, so MAYBE it will work. I'm already at Northrend 50 for MOLL-E anyway, so I'll experiment ...for science.

Also, discovered the northrend "Nitro Boosts" belt tinker doesn't work on my ilvl 25 belt, but the higher lvl mind control tinker does - bummer.

Neither does the parachute one (although there's no reason to use it over the glider tinker). It says that the level of the item is too low.
Also the decoys that you can make at Northrend Engineering 1 also require a higher level than 20 to use but do not display a tooltip for it.

Pro tip.
Halls of stone has some constructs you can scrap, and thereby get jeeves recipe. I have confirmed this on a level 22. So i really would assume it would be doable on a level 20 aswell

the vanilla JC trinket with on-use SP looked kind of intriguing.
(heavy vanilla mat investment & can't really drop it, so it's quite the commitment)

i thought hardcore masochists forego both & roll with Engi+Tailor for gliders + nets.
(who needs main stat when you've got big brain tactical retreats?)

you can also loot the Jeeves recipe from engi-scrapping/deconstructing the mechanical NPCs around the geyser fields in Borean Tundra.

Isn't the F2P limiting factor for actually making jeeves one of the reagents requires interacting with something we are too low level to use? So Vets can get it while they have gametime while F2P can learn the Jeeves recipe but can't actually make it

Edit: Found it https://www.wowhead.com/quest=12889/the-prototype-console

Panda engi has cogwheel goggles too.

HURRAY! Jeeves can work for level 20's! So, if their is a glitch with looting to high a level mob for the schematic, it can be avoided by sticking with the mechanicals in the Borean tundra geyser fields – he retained the level of the mob I skinned. Skinning the mechanicals is key.

But damn, it was a slog to farm those mats. Also, I cheated by having a higher level toon with engineering send my 20 the final mats (the 3 types of field repair bots, titansteel bars, kings amber and cobalt bolts)

Of course, now I must get Jeeves for my other 20s. Image attached.

Gratz.
How long did it take to farm in boys in the geyser. I’ve tried on several occasions with no luck :FrogeTorch:

Theres a whole thread here telling you how to make jeeves.
Vyvenem is a pure f2p player, he cannot acces the scrap bot recipe from storm peaks (the quest for that recipe has a level 25 requirement). Jeeves can be crafted and used on a lvl 20 char only if another char will supply the scrap bots required (all the other reagents can be obtained as a f2p with alot of dedicated time) this making the actual robot a vet exclusive commodity.

Hah, would you look at that. Guess he'll have to roll with outland repair bots then.

Hasn't checked the topic in a while, was working on some other stuff. For example turns out Hyper Compressed Ocean is usable by lvl 20 turns out. No idea if someone posted about it before, but it can help for fishing in difficult to reach places otherwise, also fun to obtain. Still need high level char to get it, initially, however.

I just checked the storm peaks recipe also seem to be usable by lvl 20 now(the one I had in bank). Maybe farming there is also an option, I farmed thousands of bots in borean before without a drop, so its wiser to test storm peaks if there isn't drop for a while. In there mobs are more difficult, but the drop is much higher(still need to loot 2 times in both places I assume, once for loot and one for salvaging engi parts).
I think last patch may have improved stuff. Still need to get 75 engineering(should have done that before, but anyway), but there is hope now! : )
