The Stratholme hypothesis

I have some ideas about how to farm several epic items for 39s since you cannot simply take a max level character and farm these boe items anymore, (they will scale to 60) I'm starting this farm out at level 42 in order to see what level requirement these BOEs will actually have just to get an idea of what we're working with and what the optimum level would be for looting these things.

The items that drop from trash in the first room of Stratholme are: http://www.wowhead.com/item=2825 , http://www.wowhead.com/item=867 , http://www.wowhead.com/item=1980, http://www.wowhead.com/item=868&bonus=4260 , http://www.wowhead.com/item=1982/nightblade&bonus=4260, and http://www.wowhead.com/item=1981/icemail-jerkin&bonus=4246 (If I left any out let me know and I'll add it)


What's great about these trash packs is that they're all right at the front, so you can run out of the instance if your HP is too low, but even with a Spriest that isn't all that geared, it's possible to solo them if you want the challenge. They can go down pretty fast but they hit hard and have nasty debuffs.

I'm currently solo farming trash with my priest - https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/character/dalaran/gothikkah - while I queue for Mauradon runs in hopes that something will drop.


Book of the dead summons 4 ghouls sometimes...

I would NOT RECCOMEND going past this area solo unless you can solo 5-6 elites at once...

I'm actually having a blast doing these runs solo. The GY is right next to the entrance if you die and it's decent silk and mageweave farming. Priests are great for CC, paladins, druids, locks, hunters, monks and shamans are good, but you'll likely have a bad time on the other classes if you aren't already BIS or close to it. Group runs of course, are the best way to farm, but I urge you to try it solo just for the fun it is.

UPDATE: 39s CAN use Stratholme for farming purposes. My original claim was that they could not enter the instance.

No. You can obtain these items at 39. That's the whole point of farming them. You can't use this farm spot at 39, but these epics can drop from mobs in Eastern plaguelands. No one has discovered and shared a farm spot for non-instanced farming that I know of.

I did 8 solo trash runs yesterday and the only thing to drop was level 36 greens, cloth and a recipe for the jewelcrafting trinket that summons a boar. I honestly wouldn't expect anything anytime soon because I'm just doing this sometimes and I get the feeling no one is going to do it.

Oh, I totally get that, but I also get that most people aren't going to want to make a level 40-something twink just for farming trash lol.

Hey I just did Strat at 39. Blue boss drops are level 42, so we can't do anything with them. Greens scale down but aren't great. Not sure about zone BoE drops, might be possible to be 39.

All good man, yea I just walked in and had my 110 friend solo. Got in the service entrance too, alone. I would't mind a 39 farm group though, if these epics can drop.

There was a dude a while ago who was aoe farming mobs in the Burning Steppes.. All BoE epics weapons from vanilla can be scaled for a lvl 39... but those epics will be Req lvl 38 and ilvl 51.. Which is pretty damn nice.
BoE epic armor will be Req lvl 37 and ilvl 50 which is still BiS leaving Felforged gear out of the matter.
But this guy was killing all mobs on a 110 and looting with a 39.. and it was working.. Burning Steppes is probably the best place to do it.
And it actually sounds pretty damn fun to make a lvl 38 just for this, I might just find which class and spec can equip the most BoE epics and go for it xD.

So I got confirmation by a gm about these drops, and 2-4 levels above the boe your farming gives you access to the epic boes of the level you want. So for the 38 and 37 boe epics you’d need to be 40-42. Blues and greens scale more widely but share the same ideology, being that you must be a certain amount of levels higher than the boe you want or even the grey or white item to receive the right level.

There is no extra method. Just finding an area with the right mobs. These new boes have the same drop chance as there set level counterparts. With the added rng of the proper level.

Epic weapons can drop Req lvl 33-38 43-48 53-58

Those are the only levels World drop BoE gear and weapons can have.. so finding a req lvl 42 ring isnt something new i'm afraid.

So, a mail wearing 42 twink would have the most level-appopriate epics out of any 42. Level 39 twinks are best for farming epic armor and 42 is best for farming the weapons if this is accurate.
