Questions & Answers

Kincaide I'm sorry, I really wanted to know fast so when I come back from work can I have all my Deathknight goals/possibilities etc etc.

I didn't get any responses, did you delete the multiple threads?

I personally think I ask questions that alot of f2p people want to know anyway, so putting it on multiple posts is just an easier way of information flow to get to other unaware f2p characters.

But yes it is spam so I apologize x.

Oh, I don't have the power to remove posts. But to help you move closer to an answer to your question, the best information we have on what you're asking can be found in the following two threads. If it's not written there, then no one's probably tried it yet.

Pino's F2P Archeology Guide

Comprehensive F2P Death Knight Guide

Cheers!

Hey guys I had a question.

If I use a F2P Death knight to do archaeology, can I get these items:

Bones of Transformation.
Wisp amulet.
pterrordax hatchling.

Let me know, thanx <3

As the DK guy I'll try to answer your questions :x

According to Pino's guide none of the items you've listed are available and I also haven't got them while doing archaeology on my Knights, sadly they look like impossible to get :<

Has anyone thought of making a f2p armory? The closest thing we have to that is the HKs, achievements etc post. I wouldn't mind making and maintaining one if no one else wants to, especially since there's a lot of people returning/joining the bracket that would need ideas for their best in slot.

Also, I didn't know a better place to ask than here.

I'm considering putting an armory feature into the addon, so everyone you see on your realm sends you a list of gear they finished the last BG in (along with the spec they were in when that happened). It would build on the current tooltips, so say you middle click someone's name in chat, it locks the tooltip in place so you can use it to bring up armories for all their characters.

Then the addon could also display info on where to get all the items, as well as tooltips showing what they scale to.

No more people endlessly asking 'what is bis for <class>' or 'where do I get <item>'.

I think it might help, many playerd are getting annoyed on the "what's bis" fiasco

That won't help completely, the person being armoried might have logged off in their stam set or haste set or even added a new BiS piece of gear between BGs.

Is it possible/easier to say bundle MogIt in with the F2P add on since that has a gear list as well as where you get the items?

Thinking more on this, Mog It would save you tons of coding time and also allow people to save a gear set to peruse at their leisure.

I use AskMrRobot on my P2Ps, it has an add-on that could have a .lua file which could be read by another add-on.... maybe.

A similar approach could be adopted for the http://www.twinkinfo.com/forums/f43/f2pdev-chardev-org-trial-twink-54388/ tool. I remember a post about linking it to in-game data.

Yasueh is it possible to make he addon assign primary moderators and substitutes? What i mean is that when a primary mod (Felix for example) is offline and his sub (say Activate) has the mod privileges. Felix then logs in and the addon automatically assigns Felix with the mod privileges.

*sorry for my bad writing.*

Any armory system would have to be independant, as it would need to support the values for scaled items. It could also collect the last 3 different gear sets someone ended a BG in (not when they log out), in case they are swapping sets during a game (it could also collect data on gear used in dungeons), and then the armory could show each individual class and spec, with each slot actually displaying a list of items, showing how popular they are. You could still look at individual player's gear too.

I've already played around with code to try and pass channel owner, originally to have the owner try and pass to an f2p 20 when they logged out, rather than a p2p, a freshly made low level, or worst of all a 24. Like getting the list of people in the channel it's unreliable, because the functions Blizzard provide don't always work. You logout and the addon starts the process of passing owner, but it won't always complete before the game has passed it to someone else, because it seems there's no way to set the order in which things happen. The game just doesn't wait until the addon has finished before running some log out processes, including reassigning channel owners.

As for passing mod when someone logs in, it would require having a list of names stored on a bunch of people's computers (that they all have to agree on), essentially being an extra addon to handle the processing of that list and keeping it in synch, as well as passing owner. The problem is someone could just write another addon to do the same thing (or get hold of it and modify it, if you had a disgruntled mod share it), banning your elected group of mods. Essentially the channel is an anarchy, there is no way to govern it, thanks to the way owners are assigned based only on how old the character is, and how anyone can make their own addon to interact with the channel.

It's just something that's inherant with Blizzards half-assed implementation of custom chat channels. In EVE you can make a channel, set a password and moderators, and if you come back to the channel months later it will still be there with all your settings, instead of vanishing completely as soon as it's empty. As a result, when it comes to organising players EVE is miles ahead of WoW with just guilds. The eve equivalent is the corporation, but you can have huge alliances of several corporations, and each corp can also be split up into smaller groups with different interests, all with their own chat, and banking systems. I want to provide something more like EVE, but it'll have to be done at least partly outside of WoW.

Can you guys recommend an addon that that simply tells you the spells/abilities your target uses as they cast them? Something that tells everything they do, if they use a pot, trinket, Karma someone, anything.

Thanks!

Gladiatorlossa does just that, you can configure it to tell you (via a voice) when your opponent or allies perform certain actions (you can tick which ones you do and don't want to hear).

if they're too lazy or stupid to use wowhead, then it's not worth wasting time on them.

I'm updating my Ally shaman's gear and got stuck on what cape to use.

Everyone says use Tumultuous Cape of the Sorcerer (5 armour, 5 intellect, 5 stamina, 5 haste with scaling) and I have been using that in previous patches. But Stitches' Stitchings - Item - World of Warcraft (5 armour, 5 intellect, 7 stamina with scaling) now gives 2 stamina in exchange of that haste.

The haste reduces my Healing Surge's cast time by 0.01 seconds (from 1.50 to 1.49) and the reduction to GCD is probably almost just as small. 2 stamina feels like it'd be a lot more beneficial than shaving off a mere one-hundredth of a second off my casts.

Generally, as a healer, I'd pick haste / crit over Stam. However, in this case, the benefit from stam seems a lot more substantial than the tiny haste I could get instead (armour and int are the same in both). I feel like I should use Stiches' but have heard more people say Tumultuous is better. Am I missing something?

What's your opinion? Which one would you guys equip?

Haste gets better the more you have so if you don't have vision belt/dpr/bfd robe/hovel digger bands which would be the best alternative I'd go with Silver Embroidered Cloak - Item - World of Warcraft
