Just hit level 20 in F2P...now what?

For some background, I have been playing F2P WoW pvp on and off since ~2014 or so.
I used to have a lot of "lazy" BiS characters and enjoyed the times when it was F2P level 20s vs P2P level 24s.

I haven't played since 2019 I would guess, so a lot has changed. To my understanding, the thread titled "The War Within F2P Baseline Guide" describes that we can go and do quests in DLC areas, gather reagents and level specific professions in DLC areas, and even do dungeons? To quote the thread, free players have "full world access" now. There's no cap on gold and the warband bank allows me to trade items between my character!?

So, is there anything special I need to do to enter any of the specific DLCs as a free-play character?

I'm asking here instead of just googling it because there is not consistent information that's posted in the lense of what a f2per can access.
Hoping for some f2p vets to come in here and give me some recommendations on where to begin with enjoying the level 20 experience.

A lot of the time there will be an intro questline to introduce you to an expansion's content, and for the most part you'll need to learn an expansion's specific professions from trainers in that expansion's areas.

Nothing you'll need to do for your account, except in that you can unlock the option to skip various intro quests after one of your toons has completed them once. That's less of a "must do" and more about avoiding tedium.

Thanks, I appreciate this nugget of info. Keep it coming, maybe this can be a good reference point for other new players

Warbanks aren't really a thing for unpaid accounts anymore. Someone must have misused them (likely gold sellers or people looking to self-boost) so the whole thing got shut down for us.

Ah, so once I get the 1k gold and buy it what's going to go wrong? Will it say that I need to pay to have my other accounts join the warband bank?

You simply cannot acces it on pure F2P account.
I had to try it to see it myself, that's too bad. Really saddened to see that the feature was stripped from F2Pers. I think that the guide mentioned and linked above needs to be updated (or I need to read through all the replies).

Yep, it sucks!

The guide is maintained by one person. Lots of hard work. Updating it probably isn't a main priority. Feel free to ask away though, someone will likely answer you

So would've played the Legion and BFA intros right? You won't need to do those again. There are skips. Legion's is super easy. BFA is slightly more tedious but you don't need to do the jailbreak or whatever again.

Shadowlands ("SL") will be new. It's relevant for some drops but also the SL gems, particularly for movement speed. So you'll probably have to do it. You don't get to skip it so you have to go through the Maw bit until you get to Oribos.

DF intro is also relatively easy. Do a coupole of breadcrumb quests in SW/Org and then go do like 5-6 quests in Waking Shores. Normally if you've done the DF campaign (which I assume you haven't), you get to take a quest Adventuring in the Dragon Isles, which unlocks "adventure mode". You normally want to do that so you can go kill the Forgotten Creation in the Azure Span and get Amnesia. Why that neck? Because with DF JC you can add 3 sockets to it. There are other necks from DF you can get that you can do this to but Amnesia is essentially a 100% drop, unless it bugs, which it does. I assume this works in campaign mode? But I don't actually know.

You can get XP from levelling DF professions. Personally I use this to get bags as DF tailoring will get you 32 slot bags and a 32 slot reagent bag. Oh, you'll want a reagent bag. That's new. Then you can drop it.

The WoD intro is some of the best XP in the game and the garrison is kinda useful so for a 20 I'd tend to go WoD intro right up to Ashran Appearance and then if you're not quite 20, just farm some cloth in DF and level with Tailoring if you're not 20 yet (you probably will be; this is more relevant to Vets who use warbanks to get crafting mats) level with Tailoring.

Oh and 11.1.7 launches tomorrow. We don't really know how this will play out but Blizzard has said something about nerfing twinks because they can solo TW dungeons. We will all find out together how that goes. It may be a non-issue, it may be an issue for TW dungeons only or it may mean twinks can no longer solo dungeons. We will all find out together. Mob and particularly boss health has been buffed apparently. We'll see how much longer it takes to do TW dungeons.

Last thing I'll say is that at 10-11, TW gear is a very nice baseline for gear (being ilvl 60 at 11). TBC dungeon gear is BIS, generally but TW has been a nice way to get started. Just spam dungeons til you have a near total TW set.

At 20 it's not as good. It's ilvl 96 (vs 84 for TBC dungeon gear but taht can have 3 sockets) but still a useful baseline.

Now you can finally play the game.
