How ethical is this in the twink community?

Hello all,

I read these forums for some time now. After playing so much time and being fed up of raiding, my projects are now leveling toons in BG only (with XP on) and having it off when I am farming some instance for a particular item. I try my best to have the best gear I can before I leave each bracket and I find this forum valuable for such information.

Now to the point. I read all the time that being in the XP-off queue might be tiring. I'd like to ask the community here if the following is a common practice:

1. Set XP-on to get some 10 minute queues in WSG.

2. Run first to enemy base and get the flag.

3. Refuse to return the flag, so as not to gain any XP. In the contrary, try to get as much honor as possible while the others await (or even support the FC till they realize his intentions) to score.

4. Most of the times, drop it intentionally in a favorable position in order to get it back fast again from enemy base.

5. Leave BG when another FC is close to do his actual job aka cap the flag!

6. Repeat again and again. (ruining the game experience for others)

So, once again the question. Is this a common practice among this nice community? Or is it the particular guy that does that?

Thanks for your time !

Thank you for the concise question.

Not only is this unethical in both XP-on and XP-off, but it's also an actionable offense against Blizzard's terms of service. Which is to say, you can be reported for refusing to cap the flag. In practice, of course, getting reported for anything rarely happens, it seems. To reiterate, then, holding the flag without capping is indeed unethical.

I saw a few people post here about doing this kind of thing back when the XP-off patch first landed, but I think the nerd rage mostly settled. Abusing the FC role seems very rare at this point.

Thank you very much for your answer. I just got an answer from the GM that "they have taken the appropriate action". By the way, the sad thing is that the guy that did this is in this community. Known as Donnydarko (with his rogue at ravencrest).

i mean i sort of did this, but all i did was level my 70 ret pally from i think 25 to 70. all i had was boa's and some level 40 gear from arathi and wsg. it worked quite well but i never turned xp off or refused to cap flags, as someone stated above me it is against the ToS and youd be suprised on how many people will report you. so its really fun to level your toon through bg's. but it IS Unethical to be greedy and mess other peoples progression for your own benefit.

Actually it was not me that was doing it as I state to my second post, but thanks for the info. :) When I saw the rogue having the epic ring from Arcanist in scarlet monastery I knew he was a twink. The bad thing is that he is a part of this community :(

Hey bud! good question. To answer your question, I used to do the same thing on my Warrior Twink. Feel Free to look him up: Çer 39 Tauren Prot Warrior on Argent Dawn

As you can see, the results of doing this were not in my favor.

Short Answer: Don't Risk it, Don't Do it.

Thank for the reply. But I DO NOT intent to do it! Another guy in here View Profile: Donniedarkõ - Twink Info does it repeatedly today and wonder if this is ACCEPTED practice in twink community

It makes you look bad. So no. Anyone who needs "practice" to fight against nontwinks is a sad little person. Get geared up, then join the xp off brackets.

No, it is not a common practice. I leveled my hunter almost entirely with BG's and BOA's in all slots. Had everything enchanted and good gear. But, with spending as much time is BG's as I did, I did not ever see that.

At upper BG levels, I can see the desire to accumulate honor points. But at lower levels, twinks don't really NEED honor points. On my 19's, what do I need honor for? I have all the gear already, a battle standard and ....what?

It would take me a huge amount of time to build up enough honor points to buy honor BOA's.

But, maybe I am missing something. So to other's on this site: What do we need honor for, when we have all the stuff already?

Welcome to TI, Faceoff. I hope that this issue has not given you a bad impression as this practice would indeed be unethical and frowned upon by the twink community at large. There are always those, however, that choose to do whatever they want (and sometimes ruin the game experience for 19 other people). If this person has done this as you have alleged then I suggest that you continue to report him/her to Blizzard when you see this happen. While we appreciate you sharing this with us here, it is an issue that we cannot resolve for you.

The point in doing this is to get into BGs and "wreck" non-twinks without gaining XP and lvling out of your bracket. A lot of players in the WoW community already hate twinks (as seen on the main forums and the linked thread from mmo-champion in a thread around here) and this practice certainly doesn't help us as a community.

Thank you very much for the kind reply. Of course this incident will not make me stop being a good twink one day. I really made this post in order to learn if this behavior is accepted in this community and then "report" the guy in here that uses this methods lest he is discouraged and stop doing it. I have reported him 3 times and I hope blizzard will get rid of these garbage from the game.

Thanks again (and great info in this forum! )

It looks bad. So dont do it. Twinks play in Xpoff bgs. nontwinks play in xpon bgs. So if you play in Xp-on bgs, no one will look at u like a twink. Just a scrub who enjoys playing against undergeared people. Plz dont do it. (this isn't trolling)

Even if it's just practice, please dont do it. Donnie is a baddie and everyone knows it. Plz dont do it.

I will never do that. BTW I am following your paladin guide at 30-39 atm.

For some reason I thought U were making a warrior....lol. (must of been someone else)

So i'm kinda wondering, which is a better bracket 29 or 39? Deciding to make one or the other as a spare project..... I'm kinda tempted to go to 39 but i'm not sure... any advice is appreciated

a lot of 39s play 29s. but 39s are more coordinated that 29s.

This a toughie. Ethically it is wrong and it most certainly is not common practice. But as it is WSG it could also be argued that it could be construed as a legitimate flagholding tactic.

Now I am not stupid and I know the real score with what is going on, but just to play Devils Advocate I think it would be difficult to get anything done about it. Proof would be needed of the intent, surely?

It IS frowned upon by the vast majority of the twinking community. If we can start getting locked-xp games then this problem will be close to none-existent. If the people are still doing this when we are getting regular locked-xp games, then you can be 100% sure of their intentions.

It is a D-bag move plain and simple.

I actively play in both brackets and enjoy them. 39's have been, and always will be, my bracket of choice unless something cataclysmic happens. The downside to 29s is you only have 3 games nights a week, while 39s have games nightly.

Personally I enjoy being able to alternate between brackets when I need a break from one of them. If you don't mind putting in the time roll both, if you can only pick one my suggestion would be 39s.
