I’m looking forward to the new lord of the rings MMO. My expectations are high.

I really hope it's amazing... but my expectations are low.

1. Making a good MMO is incredibly difficult... even Blizzard™ can't seem to do it anymore.
2. The biggest achievement of the original Lord of the Rings Online™ was to cause half of my 2004 gaming-group to literally skip WoW and "wait for the real MMO".
3. The new LotR MMO doesn't have the rights to any of the characters or events from the LotR trilogy, so they'll be setting it "thousands of years prior"... and a LotR game without the familiar LotR lore is essentially "just another fantasy game".

...but still, how awesome would it be if both the new MMO and the new TV series turn out to be the best things going (or maybe even cross-over)?

It sounds like they'll have the bulk of the Second Age to pull material for world-building, so maybe there's an exception for using Sauron? If that's the case, they won't be lacking in "lore" (even if much of it isn't familiar to most people).
