This circumstance does remind me of pwndepot. There's definitely only room for 1 twiinking site. It's been a good 7 years on TI...

TI had the golden days, but it's dead in the water now.

The change is nice and only a very small % of people disagree.. That is a huge success for such a risky move.

Also, I don't think this is splitting a community... The door is open to all who want to walk through. Someone said it earlier, the future is Xpoff.. Myrm should redirect TI traffic to Xpoff eventually, no need for 2 sites.

I wasn't forum active in the tinkering community when TI launched, so I wouldn't know. I'm confident people felt nostalgic about Pwndepot when TI happened though, too.

Genereally I'm guessing the community (and tinkering as a whole) is much more fragile and inactive now compared to when TI launched (which must've been somewhere around TBC?), which makes the domain and owner switch more problematic. WoW is dying. tinkering is dying. The tinkering community is dying. This sounds very dystopic but it's probably true.

Wrong, I was there it was not nearly as huge as it is now. Your post doesn't sound "dystopic" as much as "meandering" and "speculation"...

Back when TI started it was basically me and ~10 other regular posters, but the owner was super chill and pwndepot owner was not super chill. Eventually their owner didn't want to run the site any more and TI got their traffic. But it took awhile before it got to the level of activity of today. It hasn't really gone up or down that much since then. Twiinking's always been a niche community.

In fact most of the forum discussion like 8 years ago was in the WoW.com battlegroup forums. It was still super niche, used to see the same names all the time on there.

WoW is not dying, tw*nking is not dying, chill. People have been saying that garbage forever. There will always be a heartbeat, it is a passion that some of us can't give up.
