Do you think Hardcore rankings are a good idea?

Your boy Crystal finally got down to polishing down the program that @Hashbrowns wrote. The rankings look crude for now, but they are working (at least they should be).

A little bit of explaination:

If you want to be listed in the rankings, please tick the box next to "Show only character's achievements to others" in game. You can find it by pressing esc -> interface -> social. This is also necessary if you are only interested in HK rankings, so it won't mess up with achievement ones.

If you want to be removed for whatever reason, just PM me. If you want to be added, please comment down this thread. Please check if you're not already on the list. If your account type is wrong (F2P or Vet), please PM me. If you see people that are listed as F2P but are obviously vet, or people that don't have "show only char achievements to others" ticked, please let me know.

If you have any suggestions, also let me know. If it's within my limited programming knowledge, I will implement it.


Hardcore ladder

You might have seen an empty ranking at the bottom of the page.

So, I thought a good way to refresh the F2P scene a little is to introduce the generally well known concept of Hardcore (HC) characters. The only difference between them and other characters would be, they only have one life. If you die due to whatever reason, be it stupidity, disconnect or a bug, then you are out of the HC rankings. For now, you will stop appearing there, and I'm working on a feature where your name would just be crossed out but your current position will stand. It's not easy for me though so try not dying for now :p

So far, I decided that limiting Hardcore rankings to Achievements only would be healthier for the bracket. If I implement Honorable Kills HC rankings, that could potentially detriment the quality of games with people playing ultra safe or sitting in stealth all game. If there's interest, I will add HK hardcore rankings (it's pretty much a matter of a couple of minutes work), however, then playing hardcore rogue or druid would be banned. Please let me know if you want HK HC rankings added. For now, when it's achievements only, rogue and druid are OK, but if HK HC are added, your achievement rankings rogue/druid would be disqualified.

There is only one Hardcore rule for now, and that is - don't die. This is not wow ironman challenge, you can use any gear and do any content you desire.

  • Are there any bugs in the rankings?
  • What do you think about hardcore F2P rankings.

@Эйчи You were already on the list but tagged as Vet. I changed you to F2P.
I temporarily disqualified @LennywBT and @Progamerr because even they obviously have "character only" ticked on armory, the rankings still sign them to the "account wide" rankings. Also, I know that the accwide rankings are very buggy, I'll try and fix that, but don't get your hopes up because I did multiple things already and they just don't seem to work.

Need more hardcores! Don't let @Coliz be lonely up there, also 1500 achievement points should be easy to surpass!

Lastly, a little project update - tomorrow I'll be presenting the F2P Tracker to my professor and there's a solid chance that I will be allowed to use it as my required program to get my degree. That of course means that I'll be spending much more time on it, hopefully implementing all the awesome suggestions you guys proposed and maybe making updates automate (although I have no idea how I'd go and do that).

So far my professor has some law issues with using Blizzard's data, but I'm trying to prove that it's free for everyone to use and access.

Wish me luck, and I wish all you wonderful people luck in climbing the rankings~
 
Is this a "dead thread" :p I posted my character link 1 years ago and still I cant see my char in the top 3 of most of the things. Racist!

PS: And again... "Maratian" doesnt exist anymore. Remove the dead characters which are not in the official WoW/Blizz Armory.

I'm not criticizing your work Crystall, but it's crazy how getting the data out of blizz armories seems hard and full of randomness for some characters :eek:

And I told you it doesn't work like that. I'll add you with next update. And Maratian probably exists but isn't played anymore. Still makes for a good goal to beat his score. If Usain Bolt stopped running would people just cross his records out?


@Brihan now that F2PTracker got a green light for it to be my degree project, I'll put in work to fix that. And one of the requirements is also there have to be progress graphs of your achievement points / HK gain over time, so that's something cool I think. It will also mean that the rankings will be updated every week so I can gather data over time.

If Usain Bolt stop running, his records will be available in Wikipedia or somewhere, Maratian`s arent. Show me a pic of his stats.
