F2P Solo experience

Hello,

I'm planning to create an account to make a character and play through all the available F2P content solo. I'm gathering some information (I'm not an experienced WoW player). So, I would like to know the following:

- zones/quest chains that are worth reading for the story.

- any kind of achievement or item that if I don't get it at that moment, I'll never have it again.

- classes that are not worth picking (have less access to content, are very bad to play up to level 20, etc.).

- any addons for this adventure

- any other relevant information for this.

I'm also going to see how far I can get without dying, a small initial challenge.

The main thing when it comes to items is trying to get TBC quest items to upgrade to epic, as those are a one and done sorta deal. Though it's not as important as it used to be due to some item squishing that happened. There's also a bunch of other 'one and done' drops from rares where people try to get them to proc a socket or a secondary stat, but the list of items that can happen to is rather extensive (I think most of those are BFA drops, could be wrong).

When it comes to what classes are good for level 20 F2P with a focus on soloing would be the ones that can kill level 30 mobs for drops and rep. There's three things you need to be able to do this: Physical DPS, a reliable heal, and high movement speed. Movement speed can be taken care of by using SL gems to get 50% speed, which just leaves physical DPS and the heals.

The classes that can pull off the above (in my experience anyways) are Warriors (Second Wind), Paladins, Hunters, Druids, and Monks. These classes have the ability to disengage from a fight and heal up to full without being in melee range.

Another consideration to make if you're going solo is to pick a low population server (that's probably also lopsided towards your faction as well), that way you'll have less competition for certain achievement related things.

I did a (really bad) video ages ago on my favorite quest chains available to F2P and I still kinda stand by it but I'll throw in that I also found MOP to be incredibly fun. Its an complete story thats continent wide, which was a lot of fun. I also personally really enjoyed BFA, though I understand why people didnt.

Hope you enjoy your adventure!
I liked BfA on alliance side On horde side I wanted to put my no-nos in a cheese grater. Thanks to most of my friends here playing alliance , even though I prefer horde, I went alliance to be a good sport.

There wasn't really any coherent storyline up until MoP, prior to that we usually got one big bad dude like Lich King or Deathwing and that was basically it, no campaigns, very little cinematics etc.

- any kind of achievement or item that if I don't get it at that moment, I'll never have it again.
Well Greedy Goblin event just ended, other than that everything is accessible.

- classes that are not worth picking (have less access to content, are very bad to play up to level 20, etc.).
Personal preference. Its a game not a job so the main goal is to enjoy it, hence you play the class what you like aesthetics/mechanics the most, tho [again, from my personal experience] I'd avoid mages and rogues as a solo F2P/beginner, those are hard to pilot and require a bit of a game knowledge to solo dungeons and world bosses.
Technically every class of the same level got access to the same locations. There's one exception - rogues, who can access ToT location through Order Hall.

- any addons for this adventure
Leatrix as a QoL, DynamicCam and Immersive for questing. Probably HandyNotes for rares and treasures.

- zones/quest chains that are worth reading for the story.
Night elf starting area, Worgen starting area, goblin starting area, stonetalon mountains for hord, legion stormheim, val sharah
Find it more enjoyable following story laying down with this guy https://www.youtube.com/@Nobbel87/videos

most pressing will be unlocking all bank tabs and void storage before next patch on 5th/6th august on things you wish to play in future. You got few days left.
Else you will lose 180 extra bank slots due to new gold cost.

While i hate myself for not giving a fuck to all of this while warbank was a thing here is a workaround.
Pick mop chromie time, go to sw/hord keep, turn in quest after skipping cinematic, go and start lorewalking, go to pandaria via portal room, loot The Hammer of Folly, Terracotta Head, Rikktik's Tiny Chest. Do backwards if hord.
Turn off lorewalking to hs back to capital.
Takes about 10 min per character.

Might aswell grab fruit hat and Statue of Xuen to have a tiger in your bag for generations to come.

If account does not have flying and full of level 10s in i16 gear with 10g on em = <3 = pick dragoflight chromie time before/after turning on lorewalking.
Once in pandaria, pull mobs and que follower dungeon near death. Release spirit and fly as ghost to the items in question.
You got 40 seconds to enter dungeon.

Do /sw and aim at 30 seconds. Enter in midair or near mobs. once inside dungeon - leave. re que before you die.
Beats walking or waiting for darkmoon to fish.

Else can keep on creating dragons to cover your base.
Insta level 10 and can soar.

- classes that are not worth picking (have less access to content, are very bad to play up to level 20, etc.).
Druid, paladin, night elf hunter with a pet most useful things.
However new Lorewalking scaling make everything trivial in terms of higher level zones.

Don't use default nameplates for tanking. It is criminally bad.
Some alternatives out there. Using this myself for years.

This if you wish to read quests and follow things more deeply.

Other things i use.

Would suggest bagnon for bag addon but dev is an entitled cunt and updating pattern is what winds blow in.

- any other relevant information for this.
wait august 19th for gamescon before dedicating time to gearing.
most are expecting another level squish to come with next expansion.

consider paying 1 time and have your account status be a veteran account once your gametime runs out.
will make your life easier and remove xp bank dangling above your effort.

Lot's of info, thak you all. Gonna make a blood elf paladin (i wanna use enchanting crusader and dont like to play as warrior that much). Also found an addon that let me use a PS controller on wow. Loved. It's pretty good, since as low levels we don't have that much spells.

Also I'll analyse every addon you sent. Trying to make an clean and funcional UI for couch plays.

Thanks again

Love the choice to skip Warrior. Nothing but cancer they are.

You can make an night elf druid in addition to your be paladin. When I quest through zones, I like to go through them as alliance and horde back to back to get the full story.

Only now with F2P did I realize how much I missed out on lore back when I had a paying sub on a single faction.

It's a good idea. I think the time i go to the classic zone i will do both sides.

Legion Class Hall Introductions are fair storytelling and I found the Monk one very strong.

Most of the key stories for the classes are kind of locked behind character level, most notable is the Death Knight vs Paladin one which I do not believe ever got a follow-up.

From a leveling perspective. there are not skipping Shadowlands campaign, timewalking dungeons when available, the rotation events like the Greedy Emissary or the Warcraft Anniversary are helpful for achievements or starting gear, and Darkmoon Faire each month.

Key as mentioned is there are single mob and quests that can proc additional stats or socket that unless your luck hits, you are subject to RNG and may or not need that gear. Burning Crusades and Wrath of the Lich King have good socket gear to hunt for but story-wise kind of lacking until higher than level 20.

Lorewalking can help with reaching 1000 gold as fast as possible.

One key which may be too late, if you have not made a character and unlocked Void Storage, Regent Bank and all bank slots, you may be facing inventory issues with the pending bank changes today. As the new banking system will be gold locked > 1000 after the first few tabs.

Yeah, it's already too late.. couldn't play the game too much in the last days...

And will try the legion class hall quests.

Thanks
