Differences in character quality between AP Alliance and Horde

-Still has twelve year olds. (I have the slight feeling that Franciska, Felix, etc. are below the age of 14)
You can't equate Franciska with Felix. That's like equating Gonorrhea with AIDS just because they're both sexually transmitted diseases. One disease is relatively benign and the result of too much partying. The other is just fucking depressing.

Once you fish up an LFH on your toon, and finish all of the obnoxiously long questlines to get BiS gear, you tend to not want to abandon your horde toon.

What's funny is when the AP community was first getting going it was primarily Alli. Look up some of my first posts on here and you'll see me bitching about the HUGE faction imbalance and how everyone was lazy for rolling Alli twinks. Funny how things have turned around ;)

*Edit - Ooooh post # 500 =P

*Shake hands with beef*

Ally was really cool Summer of '11. And then everybody sort of defected. Perhaps the exodus to horde was a sign of maturity, or ethics? More research is needed.

I've had similar thoughts parallel to the writing posted by Purse. My own name, Supervillain, is a goad directed at the people that think they are the "good guys". I have encounterd at least one of these valiant individuals, and the psycology intrigued me.

It led me to wonder about some things: Do red states trend more towards Alliance? How about people in "defender" type professions, i.e. cops, prosecutors, and military. My guess would be they do, but I would like to see some science behind it (And when I mean science, I suppose I mean sociology, which isn't really a science, so I guess we just need a very large poll).

When life gives you aids make lemonaids :)

I lol'd

On a serious note, it would be very interesting to see data on the political leanings of WoW players.

I would guess that alliance is more conservative and horde is more liberal.

I imagine that this wouldn't necessarily be the case among serious PvPers, where the choice of faction is probably based more on the current meta-game.

I think both AP Horde and Alliance are too small samples to really observe the demographic patterns described in the study. There are awesome people on both sides. Fluctuation happens.

True, Yde. I also think that times have changed vastly since vanilla in terms of demographics. Remember all of the uproar when Blood Elves were introduced? I still think some of the core points in the study stand, though.

Also, @ Purse (and anyone else who may be interested), last semester I wrote a paper studying larping culture (which I can tell you more about in-game. I'd never larped or anything like it before; it was fascinating) and used this book as a reference. Amazon.com: Coming of Age in Second Life: An Anthropologist Explores the Virtually Human (9780691135281): Tom Boellstorff: Books. While not about WoW, it was a great read and gave a lot of insight to video gaming communities. Worth checking out.

We actually had the idea of wargames from the start. Battlegrounds and Arena and decided to roll alliance because of the gear difference and faster boa gearing because of win rates. You could play alliance versus alliance in those wargames and everyone would be similar geared with the best gear available. There were just those who were thinking to much about pugs or just simple couldnt stand rolling alliance and went horde and you can still see them around on that side. They kinda messed a good idea of a community up but yet started one on horde.

That does sound really interesting! :)

AP Alliance lost it's true sense of community when I re-rerolled horde. The main people in the social/premading circle either quit or came with me at that point. It never recovered, but it's still got a veteran or two around. I wouldn't mind playing AP A, if the people there weren't generally scrubs or imbeciles.

I did feel kinda left out last time you all went to ally, when Ark visited. So I made sure I have a mostly geared ally toon now. :D

And in the process of gearing I confirmed that there are pretty awesome people on Ally, same as Horde. And people I don't care for very much, too, same as Horde. But more awesome ones. :)

There are maybe 4 respectable people who frequent ap ally

Sir, I am neither a scrub nor an imbecile. I hold my own in a fight and I never run (ok, maybe sometimes.... on my rogue.... but thats just being a rogue...) Overall there are some pretty awesome people on AP Alliance. Anjuna, before she went Horde, and Lavaza is a badass resto shaman.Moo and Lokoe are very adept paladins, and thats just a few people. all are pretty nice. :) The same can be said for Vashj Alliance. I'm nice too, though I have a really bad anger management issue, but I'm working on it! after all my grandpa always said its just a game, and a game can always be bested.
