It's not screaming, but it's screaming? I'm not much for growling :). I have heard it's harder than actual singing though... I find it hard to believe, but hey, who am I to judge :p

It is definitely an... acquired taste. But yeah, I'm not a huge fan but I can appreciate it... doing it wrong may sound the same as doing it right but fairly soon you're going to mess up your vocal chords and that's where the skill lies.

I have a mate who's lead singing his own band while playing the bass. Went to one of his small "concerts" warming up for a band once, and by god, surely isn't my taste. The melody or w/e you wanna call it on their songs were good though, I just can't sing a long to lyrics I can hardly make out :(

i dont get how people can like death/heavy/black/gay metal. if i cant hear the lyrics (aside from an occasional blood, flesh, anal orgy), it doesnt appeal to me. and slamming double bass drums as fast as possible doesnt constitute skill or sound good. blech.
