Combat rogues are fucking sexy, I've been one since late Cata, and I've enjoyed them for years, especially in WoD.

Maces/swords. Whatever your playstyle is. I like Swords but Maces have that haste

Hey, both of you combat rogues have Battle-Hardened Thrash Blade - Item - World of Warcraft in your off-hand, is that BiS, Does it proc often?

Also as a combat rogue I like to agility stack, even so, whats the best secondary stat for combat rogues, crit or haste?

Also is Agility (as a primary stat) as important as it used to be? I stack agility and I find it does well but maybe im missing out by not stacking a secondary stat.

Combat packs more of a punch than Assassination (or Subtlety for that matter, but I don't think Sub is worth playing anymore), but I like Assassination much better.

The problem is that using the logic "Subtlety shouldn't be played because it's a lesser version of the other rogue specs" doesn't really hold water when there is Feral, which is basically like Combat with a 40% damage buff from Savage Roar (and Cheap Shot)

Where Rogues stand out (as opposed to Ferals, anyways) is that they have an interrupt and an actual full duration CC.

Other than that, they really don't have much going for them - better mobility while stealthed doesn't really hold up to better mobility /out/ of stealth.

And there is Crippling Poison, which does a better job of locking down enemies who you're focusing - but Ferals have the damage that makes them scarier when they /are/ able to focus someone down, which they can easily do with Cat Form.

I prefer to go with Assassination over Combat, because I feel like Mut Rogues are able to do more damage to targets they're focusing overall than Combat. More sustained damage means that Kick is more valuable - because you're a 1-trick pony as Combat. Your damage after the Eviscerate is going to be severely hampered, whereas Assassination does a significant amount of damage from white hits that are buffed with Deadly Poison.

It's easily a flavor choice - and I'd probably be Combat in battlegrounds (at least in solo queue) more often than not. But don't discount Assassination - the damage over time is definitely more than Combat.

Opinions please.

I'd like to improve my rogue game.

Weapon choices in/out of stealth?

In stealth you are going to want to use Doomspike in MH for heavier ambushes. Macro it to your stealth, ambush, and all stealth abilities. Your OH should be a PvE BoA sword, PvP BoA Sword, or Axe of the Enforcerer, or Shadowfang for extra swag.

Outside of stealth you are probably either going to want the PvE BoA sword as MH, or a Shadowfang for MH, and your OH should stay the same as it is in stealth.

Not true at all, although I agree Assassination has much better sustained damage, combat damage besides Eviscerate is very solid as well for combat. My sinister strikes often hit between 400 to 600, and I find that I offer tons of pressure without eviscerate.

Also, despite Ferals having heals and mobility, rogues have Evasion up their sleeve which practically makes up for that and plus more. With a feral when you heal you're probably going to be running away from the target for a short while to keep your health up considering most classes WILL be able to out-DPS your feral heal, whereas Evasion obviously allows you to avoid most damage (given that spell DPS classes are a minority in this bracket), AND you don't need to run as often with evasion as you do as a feral who needs to heal up.

Hmm, I feel that we actually agree on essentially everything - I'm not framing this as a gameplay comparison between Feral and Rogue. Feral wins that against any other class in the bracket right now. There isn't an equal to Feral.

Rather, I'm trying to objectively look at the tools that Combat and Assassination have at their disposal to best maximize the strong points and identity of Rogues. I forgot about Evasion, as well - but again, it's difficult to play it off as being a superior mechanic to Feral's Bear Form, which basically turns them into a tank class whenever they're at risk of dying. In this case, both Ferals and Rogues need a healer to save them, but they're both excellent at surviving in those circumstances (obviously with some limitations towards Bear Form, which isn't a complete damage reduction but has no cooldown, and Evasion, which lasts for a fairly short duration, has a relatively long cooldown, and is susceptible to hits from behind).

Comparing Assassination and Combat, however, I think we agree on the major point that Combat has higher peak damage (from the Eviscerate) while Assassination has higher sustained. Even Combat's sustained damage, as you said, can hit fairly hard - but the energy VS. damage isn't as efficient as it is for Assassination, even when factoring in the higher energy regeneration rate (which I can't find anymore :( it is still there, right?).

I think there are pros and cons to both of them - and there are arena comps that would favor a Combat rogue over Assassination. But overall, I feel like Assassination has more of an identity and a niche than Combat (I.E., "I have a Combat Rogue and a Feral Druid, which should I bring?").

It's hard to say, because I simply got it for a temporary offhand. But looking at it now, that 3% multistrike chance is fairly nice as opposed to none at all. I think an extra stat can go along way. But it definitely is worth keeping in offhand due to lower damage, but faster striking speed. Higher damage in mainhand for ambushes :p

edit: in-game it appears to not have the "chance on hit" ability that wowhead states anymore.

how many stacks was EFC on?

2 maybe 3 tops. A regular zerker ambush on a leather/clothie can bring up to 1800 or higher in normal circumstances (as long as you have a decent damage build)

Don't really understand the hype about combat... comparing wod to mop, mop was stronger. % wise u do around the same dmg except mop ambush was better and mop evis was even better. The other rogue specs took similar hits, so the playing field is level. I love combat and setting up nightstalker evis openers for 2.7k no stacks in mop was a really fun time, compared to now where cp's are transferable and evis dmg is lowered greatly, i don;t find it as fun. Maybe that's just my opinion on what makes combat really unique.

Also, while running a fast oh has some uses, if u are talking opener burst a slow oh adds an additional 50-120 minimal to that burst
