Blizz rumored to be " Nuking Twinks from orbit " in upcoming TW's

when it comes to TW, when expacs were gated to having a level req, starting in MOP hi level players were using max gem sets that made them OP. TW twinking was covered on other forums. i do remember in MOP the selling of TW runs was a thing for the mount chance and leveling, claims of like runs as low as 5 minutes. at that time the TW was BC, WOTLK, and CATA. blizz let this ride into BFA, been awhile, i believe BC etc gem gear no longer upscaled to match the event, lower gems no longer worked as before along current expac gems/enchants.

10-14s became a thing end of SL into DF with high i-level gear and along with a trinket, we gained public visibility when it came to power leveling, we could not que TW, but when WOD TW was up, sometimes we would get levelers in our groups. at the end of SL the WOD gear was drasticlly dropped making BC/WOTLK gem gear BIS, or the tanaan 44 gear, which many had not farmed. it was a huge nerf....intentional?

prior to TWW expac 10-29s running TWs was not a thing until the turbulent timeways/WOW annv events in the COT area near the end of 2024, this allowed 10's plus to run. once again we gained public visibility. especially for 11 fury wars due to expac changes, previously they went to 14.

belullar says briefly the nerf is gems/chants/gear. hopefully it's for TW only and not a blanket wipe

im thinking of finding something else to do on a max level I guess not me forced to end game ;o
I feel that. I've done delves on my only serious 80 with minimal LFR. Zero interest in PvP, M+ or N+ raiding.

Completionist content can problem occupy you until the heat death of the universe at this point.

I have a ton of alts and ran Comp Stomp a lot for Marks of Honor to buy cosmetics. I have thousands at this point.

Retail is just a Legion Remix waiting room for me right now.

sad times, just geared another Twink.. why do we bother lol
If you twink, you should assume you'll get nerfed at some point. That's just how it goes. It's also why you shouldn't delete any gear. You never know when it'll come good again. In DF, the meta was running WoD dungeons and praying for Warforged gear drops (ilvl 42/56 at 10 IIRC). That got nerfed to 24/29 so strictly worse than TBC dungeon drops. Now it's TW gear mixed with TBC dungeon drops. And SL gems used to be ilvl 87 minimum so they became available. Things change. You have to be comfortable with being nerfed.
What gear would be best for a 70?
So 70s are temporary until Midnight launches., which is probably in February of 2026 or so. The big boost for 70s was the Bismuth Lockboxes in the first week or two of TWW that drops ilvl 545 gear that 70s could use. It got "fixed" so it drops no longer. Existing gear remained unchanged and the prices skyrocketed. They're now way back down because people know the 70s are coming to an end in 6 months.

So if you want to gear a 70 to use for 6 months, be my guest. But go in knowing 6 months is all you've got.

I haven't seen how the twink changes and TW changes play out. We'll find out next week together. I suspect it won't be good. But my suspicion is that 70s will be untouched and arguably they were already the meta so in classic Blizzard style, they've fixed second biggest "problem" and done nothing about the actual biggest "problem" (as they see it).

It's starting to feel like all twinks are temporary at this point. Between level squishes, ilvl changes that don't update existing gear, and the non-stop nerfs to anything good. I'm inclined to agree with Rosetwinks and wondering why we even bother :/

I mean, endgame is also temporary.
Having to farm new gear every single patch, at least the twink changes don't happen as often.

Oh, absolutely. It's a constnat game of whackamole. It's one reason why I refuse to spend hundreds of hours farming out slightly better gear for 10/11 twinks to get the right tertiary stat and/or the extra socket. You don't need it to clear PVE content so it's really for PVP (which I don't care about) or for bragging rights (which I also don't care about).

You should always treat your twinks as being one change away from being made irrelevant.

Yep. Gearing in any season is a hamster wheel whereas mogs are forever. That's why you'll find so many completionists and many, like myself, just think about the latest raid tier "I'll clear it in the next expansion when I can solo it".

I really hate saeasonal obsolescence and mostly refuse to participate.
Has anyone checked the rewards for local quests in Shadowlands? I made a pass to select a Covenant, and my rewards now require level 48+. *PTR
It sounds like you took the campaign skip. There are two skips in SL. The first is the Maw skip from SW/Org. Take that one. The second is to skip the campaign and open up covenannts and WQs. DO NOT take that one if you want anything from SL. Why? Because it makes everything require level 50. Apparently Blizzard considers this a bug but it's been this way for at least a year and I imagine any fix is low priority.

There is currently no way to reverse this change once you've taken the second skip.

Time for my bi-annual observation that most of you seem like you don't actually like MMORPG game progression/design and would be much happier playing a MOBA or an ARPG
Lvl 11 Fury Warriors spamming Whirlwind for 2 whole expansions now is basically an ARPG yeah hahaha. Reminds me of Charge build Barbarians with full movement speed in Diablo 3 lol!

I lucked out, and had a geared 70 from DF S4 on an account that I didn't initially buy TWW on. That turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it's been my go to for TW carries (being above 520 ilvl with proper stats / gems / etc.) So I may actually purchase TWW a few months before midnight launch and bring that toon up to 80 and max it's gear out again, just in case. It can't hurt.

So you've raised something that I have been thinking about.

I have 2 paid accounts (so useful) and 3 F2P accounts (so I can run my own TW group) but thanks to MoP Remix and the prepatch event I'm basically at character cap. Each account has 63-64 toons on it. In total between the two I have like 70 level 80s. I have been planning to level the rest in the prepatch event.

Anyway, Legion Remix is coming up. They may increase the character cap again. MoP Remix was initially touted as "Remix toons don't count against the character cap of 60 at the time" but that changed and Blizzard raised it to 65. I wouldn't be surprised if Legion Remix raises it to 70.

For me MoP Remix was the best LTM Blizzard has had. Retail is basically a Legion Remix waiting room. I hope Blizzard don't screw it up.

So I'm considering doing one of these things:
1. Not buying Midnight at all. Honestly, if I could go back I wouldn't buy TWW. It is for me the worst expansion in awhile. I think DF was so much better; I can still play in TWW and below content in Midnight just fine. I can even buy Midnight at a discount later or not at all;
2. Buy Midnight on one or both of my paid accounts;
3. Buy Midnight on one or two of my F2P accounts and switch those to my paid accounts. I'd have a ton of character slots this way.
4. Mix and match and buy Midnight on one paid and one F2P account.

More character slots is attractive. But also having toons level capped at 80 in Midnight seems like it might be the meta, especially if twinks get nerfed but geared 70s don't.

I would have to gear at least one toon in S3 this way, which I'm not super keen on, but I can manage 1 (or 2).
