If you like versa as a stat yes. If you prefer haste or crit, there are better options.

While that's true, the 5 extra primaries you get from the socket leaves few things worth comparing it to.

Could warlock/hunter/some other DPS use vial of the sunwell? I find post from TBC show warlock could collect holy energy by life tunnel(the ability to heal demon). 9000+heal seems great.

All that I can confirm is that it works on my enhancement shaman, but only off of healing surge. I had really hoped earth shield would proc it, but no dice. So it's not the most generous interpretation of 'healing'. However you plan to charge it, you will need to spam it pregame as a nonhealer, and the trinket is pretty useless after the first use in BGs. Mean for the arena, although it only nets you around 4k heal.

It's not a 9000 heal though - would have been a Lay on Hands on a trinket then. I've tested it a few times on my 79 monk (both in MW and WW specs), and it's a 2.4k heal non-crit, 4.7k crit. Oddly enough, the pvp heal talent Healing Surge doesn't generate holy energy, go figure. It's still decent as an insta-cast heal, and is unique enough that I included it in the list.

I just found out about the Cudgel of Saronite Justice, which surpasses even the Mace of the Fallen Raven God. I don't know if that will remain true when the 8.1.5 patch drops, that scales quest items slightly upward.

Informative read there. So if I understand it correctly, all quest item rewards obtained post 7.3.5 will get 2 ilvls bump. I'll hop on the ptr realm to test when I have time.

Very interesting news for the green quest reward BiS items. Not positive that the buffs are going all the way to Wrath quest items, but I'm hoping. Still, there aren't many blue quest items (which got the 6 ilvl buff) that were used before, so it could be that the hunt is on!

Well if I could jump on the ptr I would have my answers already, unfortunately I and many others are getting the "no realms available" error and can't log on. I'll keep trying over the next days/weeks until I can confirm.
Not much will change for 79s, I think. However this does mean that some quest rewards that were almost BiS for 70s are definitely going to be BiS now. Prime example is the int offhand reward, which is pretty much BiS for 70s even now.

I checked the PTR on my 79 and my 39. My two quest rings and my quest cloak remained unchanged (both in stats and ilvl) for my 79. But for my 39, I gained one armor and a slightly higher armor level for my quest bracers and quest cloak. So @Outofspace called it -- the quest item buff doesn't reach into Northrend.

Just to be sure, your 79's quest rewards were obtained after 7.3.5? That seems to be key

Use the stickied thread for 70s for gems and enchants, I also linked it in my gems/enchants section in the OP here. There are definitely gem options for ele/resto like int/haste, int/stam or int/versa. For enh there are no agi/haste (would be ideal) or agi/versa, so you're kind of stuck with the agi/crit ones. You can always use one Nightmare Tear (+6 all stats) and (only if you are alliance) one of the 7 agi gems from hellfire peninsula pvp vendor.
edit: with the upcoming 8.1.5 changes you might be able to socket eepic cata gems in your epic socketed gear, and rare cata gems in your rare gear, due to the ilvl bump. That's all conjecture at this point though, but may give you some more flexibility.
