  • Screenshots with good builds (with the help of those amazing min-maxers that might have GF gear)

For the "Democratic" on the website. What do you want to see on the armory?

I'm sorry my work in progress fucking angered so many of you. It's like you forget that threads can be edited and decisions can be reverted. It's not a stone slab. This change doesn't have to be permanent. It really showed me a sour side of a lot of people and brought out what you really think of me..... over changing a fucking thread. I'd seriously love to have a civil chat with you (In a DM) over what you actually think of me and why. This isn't sarcasm.

I was pretty close to closing the armory thread yesterday as a whole and letting someone from the community (non-mod) run it and see how far it gets. I think you all forget that you can start your own threads and manage them on your own.

Moving forward, we'll take a vote, depending on the outcome we'll take the proposed solution and I'll take the idea I had for the Armory to a new thread.

I do want to hear your input but lets remember we're all human and to try to keep it civil...

Edit: As Defensive and passive aggressive this may come off as I promise you it's from true sincerity and I Genuinely want to start doing things as the community would have them, hence the poll. Thanks again.

My input is that the armory serves as a resource, not a flex thread. Nobody cares if you've got gf'd gear when they're looking for how to build their toons.

As such, I feel that in order to limit the confusion for new people, it shouldn't include GFd gear. But if it must (because SOMEONE PLEASE NOTICE ME!) then those toons with GFd gear should be clearly noted. There's absolutely no need, beyond massaging the fragile egos of this community, for any kind of staff curated "hall of fame"

Side note: we wouldn't really need to use the armory as a gearing resource if people who position themselves as "leaders" and "contributors" to this community would actually do things like contribute guides for various classes and specs that they play, rather than whine about decisions made by people who are actually putting in the work.
 
The poll will show that we were all right all along when we said that it was a stupid decision that shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Chops is right but the other solution also could be a list of GF gear under the unobtainable gear section/tab instead of flagging characters.
 
To be fair, this was a randomly implemented change on a post with hundreds of replies, which you will either have to comb through to re-update for the GF’d characters or have us re-post them if you decide your approach was wrong. This seems like a clear indicator that this was rushed. It doesn’t help you chose to start with Paige for whatever reason, who is a real leader in the community on Alliance even if he doesn’t care much about this website. Bitching at the community for getting defensive at this unexpected and seemingly biased change is not the same thing as community engagement. Some people have been twinking for multiple xpacs on the same character and wear their GF’d gear as a mark of pride, it isn’t as egocentric as it’s being made out to be and is a fun way to demonstrate your commitment to your character and bracket. This comes off as a validation thread for y’all to defend your decision rather than a community oriented request for suggestions.
 
Armory has always been a flex thread. The fact that you're listing links to people's characters shows just that. This is a reference to someone's armory, showing their gear from the last time they were online. Many people log out in weird sets, wrong items, fun gear and so on. I know I have. This only misguides new players.
Regardless of what your intentions were in the start, right now you jjust keep fooling yourselves that it's a helpful thread where people come to see optimal builds, it's simply not its purpose.

The builds there aren't optimal in the slightest, period. The fact that 4/5 shadow priests were using crit build is enough proof.
This leads to even more questions, mostly on the #20s discord channel.

"Why is this guy using X, when the other guy uses Y?"
"I see those hunters stacking crit, so it must be right. Forget about mastery."
And so on.

It's called "F2P & Vet Armory List" so let it be just that. An armory. If you want to show builds, show just the builds. Not people's characters.

Regarding GF'd gear, things become GF all the time. People build their stats around such items. Valentine's neck is a prime example.
It's the same thing with some rare items like Daelo or Vibro. Should we remove those characters as well? There are players who spend a lot of time or money on their chars and that's simply not a good example for new players. Go ahead and turn it to a basic tbc gear showcasing.

Since this clearly doesn't work, I'll try to build something that fixes the problem, so armory can go back to being a flex thread where we go to see cool twinks or get ideas for an interesting build.

I don't know how much more open to a community decision I can be, homie. You can try to interpret this however you want but I'm straight up telling you that I don't care what gets posted in the armory thread. It was a rushed idea and I acted on it. Now I'm trying to redeem it for the better of the community. Because like I said before, decisions are not set in stone and I'm not a fucking Nazi just because I'm on staff.

I'm just trying to fix my mistake ya'll :(

Tbh you should have known better being this long around here, there's no sugar coating it.

Also, some of the characters that you removed weren't even GF'd so it makes you think just how rushed and without thinking this all was...

My hunter who i dont even play much was removed along my other two characters who had the neck, ive noticed straight away.
