What do you want to see on the armory thread?

  • Everyone (with markers for GF)

  • No GF Gear

  • Screenshots with good builds (with the help of those amazing min-maxers that might have GF gear)

  • A separate GF'd Hall of Fame Armory (non-mod managed)

:p Then just have two threads. The "look at my toon thread" (the previous Armory) and anybody can be added, just like a ghetto day care center... kids eating Saltines off of the floor and running around with overloaded diapers... just pile'em in.

And a real armory thread based on common sense and factual information.

I have never and will never understand peoples attachment to the armory thread, it's true. I just don't get it.

It's a poor resource, it's a poor display of "well geared twinks", it's a poor record of "dedication". All things people have claimed that it's good at.

I would assume people want it to exist for one of those reasons but it sure seems like people just really want it to exist as a place where their toon is listed and acknowledged. That's just ego. Not like "big headed" ego, just ego.

But again, I freely admit that I don't "get" the attachment to the thread.

What I do get is that Cig puts tons and tons of energy into this community and provides a vast amount of content and resources and (often) organizational power to help build it.

And he made a change to a resource he manages and got dogpiled, primarily by people who never really come out of the woodwork until an opportunity presents itself to swipe at visible members of the community

You'll have to forgive me for assuming it's predominantly ego driven because I really see no other motive. If these critics genuinely care about the good of the community and not just people recognizing them in a BG, they have a funny way of showing that.
 
I think it's better to have dedicated guides for each class (such as the excellent ones already present in the 20s index) made by players who have thoroughly tested every single aspect of their character, rather than links to generic twinks born from the farming of ilvl 28 boe greens for your main.
With SL it's very easy to have one or more twinks close to being best in slots, so I think it is necessary to have an armory with only the link to your main, regardless of GF'd items.
I will be honest in saying that in the armory there are two of my characters (with 0 honorable kills) of which I do not have the right skills to be able to say that they are a reference point for new players.
I don't find it fair that they take the place of others with more experience than me.
The only character of mine that I really understand something about is the warrior, and I find weird that he is not on the list due to an unobtainable neck while the other two are there.

Haha I appreciate your opinion. That's one thing maybe I should check before posting armories, Honor kills.
If you have none, unless youre a proclaimed pve hero I might not post it.

I'm going to make another poll here soon to see if that sounds like a good idea.

Gotta gree with chops first post here, just stick a gf'd tag beside names with gf'd no biggie.
My priest only has the gf'd neck is that even a big wow look at me item?

real shame spellhance died with the bramble nerf. Was probably the coolest part of the xpac.

Alright, I was a new twink to this xpac literally a few months ago. Had no idea where to start since SL and I missed GF'd gear opportunities. This is my opinion for anyone who cares since I'm part of the playerbase that this resource seems like its "supposed to help".

1. Leave Cig the fuck alone dude. He's allowed to be passive agressive if he wants to be. He's had sweaty nerds thumping their keyboards REALLY hard about this. He's trying to fix what he deems as a mistake, let him. He doesnt have to be happy about this situation. Im sorry, but the staff arent supposed to be hall monitors. That approach was tried in the past. "bracket culture" barely existed without a ban then. You guys would fucking hate that.

Let him be a person....with reactions...and feelings. Fucks sake. Your comments reek of "he needs to appease me AND be happy and passive about appeasing me". Okay Karen.

2. I've done a lot of needless looking-around on wowhead trying to figure out where to get gear I need just to realize that its GF'ed and out of the question. Having an icon showing that someones toon is GF'd would be really helpful to newbies. Newbies will help the community grow. Help the newbies.

For the ego-tards out there, you also get a flashy new symbol (hey look, this toon is GF'd) to show that you are special. You win also.

The staff here choose to help this site and help this community on their own time. Dont turn on them for every little fucking thing. Shit is wack.
 
Personal take. Obtainable gear is already well highlighted in the gearing/farming/class guides. That’s where the knowledge should be kept.

armory thread is for flexing or publically showing off your digital trophy toon (assuming that’s your choice), whether that’s gfd or not. Although I’m not against a gfd tag.

Another opinion: it’s obvious that new players and members barely read these informational threads anyways, chops and other mods post stickied guides as responses multiple time daily in the discord/ new threads that get locked.

creating another thread is yet another resource that needs to be maintained, stickied and, unfortunately, scrolled past
 
On that note I do feel like "guides" are more for the entertainment of the person writing them. "What you want to do is... kill the enemy".

Just figure out a way to make the Armory useful. There was so much crap before you had no idea what to do as a new player. The amount of posts that told new players to "check the armory" was as infuriating as it was pointless... because it was just an overflowing toilet.
 
Sure the people that wanna brag about destiny or a 12 agi cloak enchants. But love in the air neck? You did a 2 min dungeon and it happend to get GFd. Thats like the least cool gfd item in twinking weve ever had.
 
idk how to make the armory a super useful place for new players, like I use the armory all the time still so when I say check the armory its a no brainer for me. Like I am constantly seeing what other ppl are doing on the the armory to develop my own set ups and stuff. But I am also pretty in the know on what is gf'd and what isn't as well. Seeing what other twinks were doing was one of the reasons I started coming to xpoff it would feel weird if there was no armory thread.

Will adding a gf'd tag make the armory useful? It already is for me but I can see it not being useful for others. Tough calls here.
