As far as the pickets and crossing the line, this situation is a bit odd since they aren't unionized. The entire concept of "not crossing the picket line" is for other union workers to stand with their brother and sister union members, by striking with them or at least not continuing to work. But in this situation, there is no union. So there's really no obligation. That being said, it'd be a good gesture for the other workers to stand by them, nonetheless. But I'm sure plenty will continue to work anyway, considering there is no union repercussions for doing such.

Not crossing the line is about not being a scab. Whether or not a formal union is involved doesnt absolve you of standing with your fellow workers as they fight for better workplace conditions. Its a small, hyper convenient thing to find something else to do for 3 hours on a weekday and show a little class solidarity.

It's true it doesn't absolve you from standing with your workers, but it does absolve you from consequences if you don't. Which, for better or worse, can mean a lot less people will actively stand by those who strike.

I meant there are no consequences directly related to your actions that you can be punished for, IE removed from union.

There are hella issues all around in that industry, and in the tech industry all together. Rampant ageism, sexism, misogynic, toxic culture, etc. It's one of the main reasons I decided against majoring in CS and pursuing it to begin with. That, and I had no interest in moving to the bay area. From what I've seen of the salaries for Blizz software engineers and devs, it's...pretty poor compared to some other companies in the area. Combine that with the apparent god awful culture? Yikes.

It'd be great to see some legitimate change actually happen, but I'm not holding my breath.

Living in a 3rd world country really gives you some form of redeeming qualities. Non really cares about that stuff in my area so I wont get shunned anytime soon. So I apologize for the lack of knowledge on those "sensitive" topics.
