Is anyone else here seriously excited for PVP in Legion?

If these changes go through, it's RIP to nearly all gear choices. AGM, Shadowfang, Gloomshroud, etc. A rogue in intellect gear will be just as good as a rogue in agility gear due to PvP templates.

Well shit. So people can just come in with quest whites and kick a vet's behind?

It's less work for blizzard in the long run if they don't have to make pvp gear anymore. Unfortunately this is probably the dumbest decision because it just goes to show they don't really have a way to "fix" pvp, they are just removing elements of pvp that would make it more difficult to balance. I really hope this only affects endgamers and not twinks.

It's funny how we all see the same words but read different things.

For me it says "Skill over money."

Maybe it's a trick with the lighting....

Mock me if you will... With the exception of one expansion, Blizzard has had four "major" patches in each. Which leaves two left in this one.

You talking about that big $5 investment? Or are you talking about that button smashing "skill"? One can be in possession of both.

I can see this either killing twinking entirely since it will literally become just low level bgs with longer queues or they can unsegregate the battlegrounds again since stats don't matter and we return to the pre-wrath twink model. They did say that better gear will give you extremely small increases in stats, which will probably end up only being endgame, but in that case getting good gear might still be worth it since you'll have like 5% more stats than someone in whites. I think it will eventually end up like rift with xp on/off mixed battlegrounds where the twinks work very hard for very small statistical advantages and end up not being too much more powerful than the average leveler with class mechanics and personal skill deciding fights

The main thing I dislike about the system is the lack of choice. For people who enjoy theorycrafting and numbercrunching or people who enjoy having multiple sets for different engagements, this pretty much kills that type of enjoyment and playstyle.

You will still get plenty of choice. Finally getting some class/spec balance will make every spec viable, and Blizzard have already said they want specs to be more diverse within a class. Picking a good team composition will come down to more than stacking BMs and Ferals, and players will be able to combine specs for different strategys.

You have no way to know that yet. Given Blizzard's track record of balancing low-levels, it is likely we will see more FotM than ever with the barrier of entry being as easy as having a toon at the appropriate level and not have any way to mitigate the effect of the burst from those classes through gear choice.

I sincerely hope that they will be successful, but time and experience with Blizzard has taught me to not build my hopes up too high.

maybe some of the QQing f2ps that always just cry about enchants and spells when they lose games will realise they are just playing bad :^)

These sound like the kind of changes that will get scrapped.

And if they go through, then transmogs will be the new twinking.

I feel like 50% of players or more dont actually enjoy playing anyway. Theyre just addicted to achievments, transmog collecting, etc.

I wouldn't expect any other opinion from people who don't understand game design, and only focus on the history of the game (which has had several changes in design teams). The simple fact is that gear introduces too many variables, and makes balancing a lot harder. Blizzard's other games are well balanced. Only WoW with it's infinite combinations of gear suffers, and that's because they have enough work attempting to balance endgame (where there are more stats to play with), without having to do the same for nine other brackets.

With every player of a spec having exactly the same stats, the devs no longer need to consider what players are wearing (or may start wearing after a change) when they have to make balance decisions. The statistics they gather on the relative strengths of each spec will be far clearer, and they can work directly off those values to give each spec Time-to-Live and Time-to-Kill values within an acceptable range.

Hopefully their talk about PvP talents means a complete new set, just for PvP, with a lot of differences. That will be how you select for +damage or +survival, a lot like how the talents work in HotS. Hopefully they'll also unlock more choices the longer you play a spec, too.

It's not that I don't understand the intent of the design. It should be a much easier task to balance this new system.

Again though, my faith in Blizzard is not at a very high level due to what I have seen in the past. Too many previous iterations of "balancing" that have only seemed to make things worse as time goes on.

I think we know way too little to be making assumptions. We don't know how this system will work, or even if it will work at low levels. I actually think this is a good thing as it has the potential to bring twinking to another level. Although it is a shame that we can no longer theory craft, as long as blizz doesn't fuck up stats at low levels we should be fine. Also, if you guys watched the interview w/ Holinka at blizzcon NA qualifiers, he said that gear would still be a factor in PvP and would still give you an advantage if your gear is better. Again though, we have no idea how this will work and there is no need to jump to conclusions saying, "twinking is dead!!1111!!!1".
