Summoning all bosses of 29s <DetoX>

I understand that it must be frustrating if one's only purpose in life is to drive their kids to soccer practice. I would be upset, too. It is probably quite difficult for you to understand but children can be healthy without a person exclusively devoted to transporting them to sports events.

I understand your parents didn't give you enough (any) attention. Please don't let your jealousy cause you to take it out on the dads/moms of the kids that ARE getting attention & participation from their parents.

It's time to seek counselling for your anti-team-sports & parenting issues.

You guys realize that everyone who plays the 19 bracket also plays the 29 bracket, including Barb. He could just as easily hit you guys off if he runs into you in a PuG. That being said, you constantly slander the 19 bracket by claiming that the bracket contains nothing more than "DDoSing Scum" and "Cheaters". When in fact, if you made any effort to play our bracket, or do something at least slightly competitive other than the extremely challenging act of flashbombing/speeding potting and "outplaying" F2Ps. You would find that the occurrence of DDoS is a very rare and preventable aspect of playing in bracket of any game on the internet. To us "19s" that enjoy premading one another to put our skill and our synergy to the test, it is why we play the game. Any twink bracket without the promise of a challenge is boring to me, as it is to many others. Also I was under the impression that you guys use TS, not skype, making it virtually impossible to retrieve your IPs.

The real question is, what are you waiting for? Put your money where your mouth is and join is in the 2015 Twink Cup.

Barb's not the only offender, quit trying to spin it to make yourselves look less like hypocrites. Prominent members of the 19 bracket have made it crystal clear that DDoSing is kosher, and any DDoS attacks will be blamed on the victims. Can't say that your attitudes that you have adopted vis-a-vis DDoS are surprising, given how toxic behaviors have become the norm in 19s the past several years.

You need to understand shak, these guys think that playing 29's correctly requires you to que with a 5 man featuring at least one bowel movement monk at least one shadow priest and at least one resto shaman, if they don't have that they wont even que and idealy you should have multiple 5 mans queing and only take the ques when you get a full ten man in. It's called dressing for success and DDoSing is just an extension of that.

Of course if you don't set up DDoS protection at 19 they consider it ODF, the idea of not stacking the deck completely (even illegally) in their favor to get enjoyable games and build a better community is completely beyond them.

I just faced such a 5 man in ab while solo queing, luckily 3 other people from my guild got in and we picked up some choice players, cc junkie among them, and hilariously they managed to lose despite their power comp.

The point of a proxy or VPN service is that you basically can't DDOS.

I'm not assuming that everyone is going to use a VPN, or that widespread use of a VPN is going to prevent someone like Pizza from DDOSing those who aren't using a VPN.

Aside from that, it's still possible to get an IP from someone using a VPN (you'd get the one the server is using), and then DDOS the VPN server, which would have the same effect as DDOSing someone directly (except it hurts everyone using the same VPN network). I also question the point of hosting a tournament where everyone is behind a VPN service and thus having their connection rerouted to the point of lagged game play.

Everyone having 300+ latency will probably make things more frustrating than fun.

You do not rerout your entire connection. You tunnel only skype through a VPN which has no impact on your latency in the game. For the same reason only your skype would disconnect if your VPN server happened to get hit off.

I spent a lot of time with my parents during my childhood. Their lives, however, did not revolve around driving me to sports events. They managed to be there for their kid while also having successful social as well as professional lives. Not every parent is satisfied with being the designated driver for their children and no other accomplishments. Thank you for your concerns, though.

No bracket for old men.

I've seen some dumb shit in my life, but good lord this is next level.

Skype isn't the only way people are able to get someone's IP. Not using a VPN for your game client defeats the point of using a VPN to begin with. Also, you don't need to put skype behind a VPN to hide your IP from people you don't know/trust.

willix, I've found using PIA that the latency hit is SURPRISINGLY low when using a VPN to play online games. I'd say its no more than a 50ms hit, assuming you are doing it right. It's also going to be much harder to disrupt a vpn's service with a DDOS that a home internet connnection. Then again, nowadays all you need is mommy's credit card to buy your own botnet / ddos tools, so I guess we will see.

I'm off the bandwagon. I'm going to assume most who DDOS have collected individual's IPs have done so before the twink cup. Pretty much everyone has a static IP now, or at least a lease length that is significant. You're going to WANT to have people tunnel their entire traffic through a VPN.

Not everyone has a static IP and the ones who do have the option to contact their ISP. I am also not quite sure how someone's IP being compromised from the time before they had a VPN means that they should tunnel their entire traffic.

No, it really doesn't.

I don't think you understand how a DDOS works, or how a VPN mitigates it.

edit - I've been studying while sitting in the minivan waiting for practice to be over

So I think I can word the situation in a way that all the twinks/sports dads understand.

19 twink( major league recruiter ) come on up its time to build teams we'd love to have you!

29 twink(minor league top player) no there's steroid problems it's not even worth it. Steroids are like a part of the game there's nothing you can do about it, I'll just stay here.

Did I get the gist of it?
Yes it's a problem, no everyone doesn't do it. Yes there are ways to prevent it. It's definitley not something that's a big enough problem for you to not come to a more competitive bracket. Hell you guys that don't have a DDos problem might help turn the community's opinion harder against it and help reduce the problem! Then you bring back some badass team synergy, and newly refined skills back to 20-29! Win win!

I'm not entirely sure you understand how it works, to be quite honest.

The way I phrased it was confusing, ignore everything I've said with the exception of:

Running a proxy connection for your skype does not protect you from the effects of a DDOS directed at your IP. It would mask your IP, stopping people from collecting it via skype, assuming that they haven't already got it. From the sounds of it, there will be a proxy provided for players in the twink cup. All I am saying is that the idiots doing this have more than likely already got the IPs of members of the 19s community.

Calling your ISP to ask for a new IP is generally not easy, they have no real reason to even want to help you. I suppose you could unhook your cable modem for a day or so and then hope it leases a new address when you hook it back up.

The reason I was suggesting that you would tunnel all your traffic would be that if you played (and skyped) from behind a VPN, assuming the VPN provider isn't shit, you would have a better chance of avoiding the effects of a DDOS (they have technology and additional bandwidth availability to mitigate the effect, depending on the size of the botnet being used). Services like PIA allow you to change which region you are tunneling through, so if they actually decided to DDOS the USEast IP that you appear to have, one one merely need to change to USCentral. New IP, no more DDOS.

I guess what I'm saying is that it's going to be an issue regardless, and that's too bad.

It's kind of like slapping peerblock on your computer and thinking you are g2g for torrenting.

You do understand that once your IP is compromised, even if you get a VPN for your entire connection you will still go down until you get your ISP to provide you with a new address, right?
